NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with IS0 5238/2 : 1983 ‘Textile machinery and accesso- ries - Packages of yarns and intermediate products - Part 2 : Forms of winding’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization ( IS0 ) was adopted by Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Machinery for Fabric Manufacture ( Excluding Knitting ) Sectional Committee and approval of the Textile Division Council.

Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

Only the English language text of the International Standard has been retained while adopting it as Indian Standard.

In this Indian Standard, the following international standards are referred to. Read in their respective place the following:

PART 2 FOF4MS OF WINDING

1 Scope and field of application

This part of IS0 5238 specifies forms of

winding suitable for winding yarns and

similar products (for example, tape

yarns, roving, sliver) onto tubes or

other formers. It may be applied to

spinning, twisting and winding

machinery as well as to other machines fitted with winding devices.

All forms of winding are a combination of the rotation of the package and the

lateral movement of the yarn relative to

the package.

NOTE - In addition to terms given in the

three official IS0 languages (English, French

and Russian), this part of IS0 5238 gives the

equivalent terms in German; these have

been included at the request of Technical

Committee ISO/TC 72, and are published

under the responsibility of the Member

Bodies for Germany, F.R. (DIN) and

Switzerland (SNV) who have verified the

correctness. However, only the terms given

in the official languages can be considered

as IS0 terms.

5 Description of forms of winding

WInding should be regarded as time- traverse-systems. An exact fixation of the winding system needs a description of the functional characteristics.

Therefore, the following data shall be specified :

a) type of machine;

b) type of traverse;

c) type of yarn;

d) type of former* (inner dia- meter x length) according to IS0 l +;

l The type of former affects the package, even in the case of equivalent forms of wind- ing.

l * Will form the subject of a future Interna- tional Standard.

8) speed of yarn;

f) winding length;

g) kind of package No. ac.

cording to IS0 5238/l;

h) characteristics of the winding

structure.
