    Gear hobs - Single start - Accuracy requirements1 Scope and field of applicationThis International Standard specifies requirements for the ac-curacy of general purpose single start hobs of 1 to 40 moduleand 25 to 0,625 diametral pitch.These hobs are intended for producing gears which conform toISO 53 and ISO 54.

    This International Standard applies to single start hobs forhelical and straight spur gears. It applies to sol id Imonoblocland inserted blade hobs.The elemental features of hobs are graded as follows accordingto accuracy:

    Grade AA, Grade A, Grade B and Grade Cwhere Grade AA is the highest order of precision.NOTE- GradeD hobsarenot specifiedin this InternationalStandard.Thevaluesof the tolerancesfor GradeDare 1,32 timesthe valueof thetolerances for Grade C, except for the bore tolerances which wouldbe H6.In addition to the conventional elemental tests for hobs, thisIntemational Standard gives permitted tolerances for the prac-tical test consisting of the measurement of the position of thecutting edges along a line of action. This test requires specialequipment. The two groups of tests are not equivalent and oneshal l choose between one or the other. If there was no previousagreement, the hob is regarded as belonging to the precisionclass specified, i f it satisfies one or other of the two methods ofinspection.NDTE - The tolerances in this International Standard were deter-minedfor gearhobswhosedimensionsconform to ISO2490, but withcertain precautionsthey maybe applied to hobs not specified in thisInternationalStandard.In this International Standard, the diarnetral pitches are givenonly on a provisional basis; they wil l be deleted after the periodnecessary to al low conversion to the metr ic system.

    4 Derivation of tolerances{see table 2)It should be noted that test 7 does not conform to a datumvalue and is not in the statements below concerning grade rela-tionships.With the exception of test 7, the datum from which all thevalues in tables 2 and 3 are derived is the value of 45 [ . . 1m in test14 Grade A module 16-25.The ratio between Grade AA and Grade A is 1,6 except for test9 and 9A where it is 1. The ratio between Grade A and Grade Bis 1,6 for tests 1 and 2 and is 1,8 for tests 3 to 6, and 2 for tests 8to 14. The ratio between Grade B and Grade C is 2 except in thecase of tests 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 9A. In this case the ratioadopted is 1 for practical convenience. These ratios are takenfrom [SO 3.

    The ratios between the various module ranqcs are indicated intest 1 and th is applies to all the other tests except test 7.The metric values are to be taken as the basis of the tables. Theinch units in table 3 are converted from the metric values intable 2. The values for tolerances of 12,5 11mand upwards havebeen rounded off in accordance with ISO 17. The values 4,5,7,5,8.5 and 9,5 11mhave been increased by 0,5 11mon accountof the smallness of the values concerned, this being allowed ac-cording to ISO 17.Inch values of tolerance greater than 0,002 in have beenrounded to the nearest 0,0005 in.
