TEACHER ICT HANDBOOK 2010 – 2011 ISS International School Singapore
International School Singapore updated 8/16/10 3
Introduction:
As we progressively move forward into a digital age, students learning needs are changing. At ISS we are committed to our mission of developing appreciation of learning as a life-‐long process and to do so by delivering a dynamic curriculum. One strategy ISS has decided to use to assist in delivering the skill set and knowledge that is required for a 21st century learner is a laptop 1to1 program. By August 2010 all students from Grade 8 – 12 will have a personal macbook, which can be used in every class and at home. Each teacher also has a macbook and has access to our Study Wiz online learning environment and wiki and blog server. This is supported by wireless access throughout both campuses. Moving forward, ISS will be working with teachers to improve their technical competencies and then develop 21st century teaching pedagogy that reflects the demands of our students. This booklet covers the essentials to help you set yourself up to teach with a macbook. It also contains many other reference items that will be useful at different times.
Professional Development – ISS 1 to 1 macbook programme
Insitutional Goal – August 2010
The ISS eLearning coordinator organizes professional development opportunities. These will be run in different formats throughout the year.
1. Individual eLearning Goals linked to appraisal system. The eLearning coordinator will help you establish eLearning goals, which are focused on developing your teaching. The coordinator will spend two 45 min class periods per teacher, with you helping integrate the eLearning strategies into a unit of work, according to our school wide eLearning framework. You will be observed and helped to complete your goals. Any feedback will be linked back into the appraisal system. Any teachers not on the appraisal cycle are still required to complete an eLearning goal.
2. eLearning tips – teachers will share examples of best practice at the beginning of staff meetings. These will usually be related to staff members eLearning goals.
3. Internal school wide professional development. – These are opportunities during staff In-‐Service days where you can share ideas with colleagues about integrating eLearning into your classroom. Some of these sessions will be lead by a facilitator.
4. External professional development opportunities– on occasions, outside experts will work with teachers to integrate eLearning into the classroom. The school will also promote opportunities to attend local workshops with eLearning focuses.
ISS teachers and administrators will be working towards integrating eLearning best practice into their classrooms. Pedagogical change is a long process that happens over years. Teachers are not expected to make wholesale changes to their teaching in one year, but make small steps to develop a teaching and learning environment that reflects the needs of 21st century students.

ISS eLearning Framework
Introduction Why are we creating change in your classroom? We are trying to shift towards a model of 21st century learning, which will help students become able citizens and employees in the future, but to also help them succeed in their learning at school. Therefore we are making learning relevant to these students through effective use of the macbook and integration of technology into the classroom.
These ideas are based on this research. http://edorigami.wikispaces.com/file/view/bloom%27s+Digital+taxonomy+v3.01.pdf
A framework for eLearning at ISS
Common phrases: 21st century learning, collaboration, creativity, 1 to 1 programme
As a staff we can create the links between our teaching units, the levels of the taxonomy we would like to develop and eLearning tools or Digital Approaches available at ISS. The plan is to make teachers aware of why they are using eLearning tools, and to refine how they use these tools to improve learning at the different levels of the Digital Taxonomy. See example below
Bloom’s Taxonomy 1970’s Teacher Centered – 20th century teaching
Anderson and Krathwohl’s taxonomy 1990’s Student Centered – 21st century learning

Goal Setting Process Create your personal eLearning goal using the google form.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFB1MWRDTm5nUWc1WFViNDJsN0hRS0E6MQ
You could develop a goal which focus’ on one element of the taxonomy and develops a digital approach to a piece of work that reinforces this skill. Does your department want to do develop something together and implement in each of your classes? For instance, this could be to reinforce the basic skill of remembering grammar with ESL students.
Submit your eLearning goals on the goggle form, noting when you would like to work on it and what help you require. I am available to help you develop your goals.
If you are part of the formal appraisal cycle you can copy this information into your goal-‐setting template for August 2010.
