• Oversaw hedge fund litigation resulting in a mid-seven figure cash payment for the client.

With more than 35 years of experience in business transactions, litigation and estate planning, J. Phillip Glasscock has a simple mission at Guidant: help clients make money and keep it.

He typically starts with ascertaining the client’s exit strategy and other long-term plans so that all efforts are designed to achieve lasting success. Likewise, Phil’s approach with estate planning clients is focused on expediency and efficiency with the goal of “making it easy” in all respects.

Phil’s client roster has included public companies and three generations of family owners of private companies. He has worked with manufacturers, international distributors, professional services firms and family owned-businesses. With substantial experience in multistate transactions, he has complet-ed more than a billion dollars of successful real estate closings throughout the United States. He was honored to oversee the first successful FCC spectrum license sale in Washington D.C. and the first successful large, multi-engine jet aircraft auction, selling aircraft to buyers in Europe South America and Africa. In addition to negotiating business deals in the U.S., Phil has been tapped to oversee deals in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Japan, Korea, China, Sweden, Germany, and Russia.

Phil owned and operated a law firm in Scottsdale, Arizona for 25 years, successfully growing the business and becoming known as a top-tier attorney, even as the Great Recession riddled Corporate America. During this time, he cultivated a relationship with attorney Gary Smith after the two continually met as opposing counsel. The mutual respect ultimately led to their association at Guidant.

Phil has additional experience as the in-house general counsel for a large regional real estate devel-opment firm and a multi-national product manufacturer. As such, he was responsible for acquisition, sales, distribution, employment, and joint venture contracts as well as supervision of the company’s physical facilities and human relations departments. He handled competitive strategies and managed substantial “bet the company” litigation in the U.S. and abroad. One example resulted in several successful judgments, ultimately leading to one of the largest judgments in Arizona up to that time. After earning a Juris Doctorate from Arizona State University, Phil assisted the management consult-ing department of an accounting firm in Phoenix. There, he structured and documented real estate and R&D securities offerings, conducted strategic business planning sessions and provided key business advice to large and small business clients. Phil is a retired Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Won multi-million-dollar cases for both plaintiffs and defendants.
