EDPY302 LearningandDevelopmentinChildhoodEducationalPsychology302(EDPY302) isan introductory-levelcourse inhumandevelopmentand learning.Thiscourseisdirectedtowardsstudentswhoexpecttoworkwithchildren(ages0-12).Itisdesignedtoprovidestudentswith theopportunity to studychildhooddevelopmentand learningwithaparticular focuson theapplicationoftheorytoeducationalpractice.Inthiscoursestudentswillgainanunderstandingofhowchildrenfromadiversityofbackgrounds develop and learn and how teachers can provide appropriate learning opportunities that supportstudents’educational,physical,cognitive,social,cultural,moral,andpsychologicaldevelopment. EDPY304 AdolescentDevelopmentandLearningThiscourseisdirectedtowardsstudentswhoexpecttoworkwithadolescents(ages11-17).Itisdesignedtoprovideyou with the opportunity to study adolescent development with a particular focus on the application ofdevelopmental theory to educational practice. We begin by examining the biological and cognitive changesassociatedwithadolescence.Next,weconsiderhowtheseinternalchangesinfluencetheadolescent’srolewithinthe social context of their family, peers, school, work, etc. Finally, we will focus on individual differences inadolescentdevelopmentincludingcurrentproblemsandwaystosupportresiliency.Duringthecourse,studentsareexpectedtoreflectonhowadolescentdevelopmentimpactsthemasateacher.

EDPY 500 IntroductiontoDataAnalysisinEducationalResearchThe purpose of this course is to present studentswith an introduction to descriptive and inferential univariatestatistics commonly used in social science research. EDPY505 AdvancedUnivariateStatisticsinEducationalResearchThepurposeofthiscourseistopresentstudentswithadvancedunivariateprocedures.Themajorityofthesemesterisspentonmultipleregressionandadvancedanalysisofvariancemodels(e.g.,mixedrepeatedmeasuremodels).Iemphasizetwoaspectsofstatisticalreasoningasweexaminethesemodels,namely:(a)computationalformulasandassumptions,and(b)appropriateusesofadvancedunivariatestatisticsinsocialscienceresearch.Athoroughunderstandingofmultipleregressionandadvancedanalysisofvarianceprocedurespreparesstudentsforstudyofmultivariate statistical analysis and ensures that students can conduct their owndata analyses. In addition, thelaboratorycomponentofthecoursemakesitpossibleforstudentstolearnhowtocarryoutANOVAandRegressionanalysesusingcomputersoftware,namelySPSS. EDPY510 Learning,Cognition,andEducationThepurposeofthiscourseistopresentcurrentviews/theoriesonthinkingandlearning,andhowtheseviewscanbeappliedineducationalsettings.Theprocessofthinking,includingwhatitmeansto“thinkwell”hastraditionallybeenthefocusofcognitivepsychologyandotherdisciplinessuchasphilosophyandeconomics.Understandingwhatthinkingentailsandwhatitmeanstothinkwellisvitaltopromotingsuccessfullife-longlearning.Inthiscourse,wefocusonexaminingviewsonthinkinganddiscusshowtheseviewscanbeusedsuccessfullyinappliededucationalsettings. EDPY608 SelectedTopicsinEducationalMeasurement(validity)Thepurposeofthiscourseistocriticallyexaminecurrentissuesinthefieldofmeasurementandevaluation.Twotopicsarediscussed:Thefirsttopic isvalidity, itsdefinition,andwhat itentailswithineducationalmeasurementdrawing on seminal research and theoretical formulations. The second topic discussed is the role of cognitivepsychologyineducationalmeasurement EDPY610 SelectedTopicsinLearning,Cognition,andEducationThiscourseisdesignedtointroducestudentstoadvancedtopicsinthestudyofcomplexcognitionandlearning—inparticular,thetransferofresearchoncognitionandlearningintoclassroompractice.Themajorityofthetermisspentreadingandcriticallyanalyzingresearcharticlesoncognitionandlearningintermsoftheirobjectives,researchmethodology,andeducationalimplicationsforclassroompractice.Studentsreadprimarytheoreticalandempiricalresearch and take turns leading class discussions, in which the critical analysis of research methodology andconclusions are fostered. Students also develop and present methods for innovative research translation tostakeholders. EDPY644 ConsultationinSchoolandClinicalPsychologyA seminar course intended to explore, through reading and practical discussion of clinically-relevant readingmaterial, the role of the psychologist as consultant and collaborator.
