One of Mikanakawa’s most notable award is the Outstanding Service as an Adult Arrowman Award. The Lodge Outstanding Service as an Adult Arrowman Award is not like any other award given each year that has specific requirements. This award, first presented in 2009, is for those “unsung heroes” working in the background providing “outstanding” service to our Council Camps and the Lodge. Recipients may or may not hold a lodge or chapter office but, regardless, each year 5 adults are presented with this award at the lodge banquet for their their exceptional service and time they have spent behind the scenes supporting our lodge. This exceptional devotion to the youth of our lodge has not gone unnoticed.

The 2016 recipients are as follows ( from left to right ) - Travis Parker, Cody Stevenson, and Libby Odom, presented by David Allelo. Scott Lollar was recognized and presented with this award at the February LEC. and also at March Induction weekend, Earl Brown (2016) and Tim Marnick (2015 recipient), were recognized and presented with this award.

The lodge is currently looking for a location for the 2017 dinner to be held in January of 2018, any suggestions should be sent to Joe Chappell, Mr. Allelo or Mrs. Kelly. Also, If any adult is interested in becoming the new OA Lodge Dinner Adviser contact Mrs. Kelley at (972) 824-6363 or email her at [email protected]

2017 Lodge Winter Fellowship and Powwow

Find the Greater Beauty! The Mikanakawa Winter Fellowship and Powwow was held at Camp Wisdom on the weekend of February 17-19, 2017. Congratulations to our Youth Lead of Powwow, James MacDaniel, and the Lodge Adult Adviser of Powwow, Scott Lollar, for planning and hosting this year’s very successful Powwow.

Furthermore, The Mikanakawa Lodge Powwow is the Lodge’s premier AIA (American Indian Activities) training event for the year. Much of the training at this event is related to Native American dancing, singing, and crafting, and the ceremonies of the OA. We also have classes on how to get involved and how the AIA Program in the OA works for everyone. Also, because this year is Mikanakawa’s 80th Anniversary, there was a lodge history discussion.

With over 40 activities available to Scouts and Scouters, this proved to be the most robust program provided at The Lodge Powwow in years.
