CONTOUR INTERVAL 25 FT Elevations in feet above Mean Sea Level 1:50,000 CYPRESS HILLS INTERPROVINCIAL PARK Reesor Lake is located 65 kilometres from Medicine Hat, Spruce Coulee Reservoir, and the town site of Elkwater – at the same elevation as Banff. The area offers camping, fishing in lakes, hiking on less traveled trails, wildlife viewing, bird watching and boating. Amenities include beaches, playgrounds, nature trails, interpretive viewpoints, and more. REESOR LAKE A large spring fed water body located 20 km southeast of the Elkwater town site. It serves fishermen year round and provides ideal camping. Winter/Summer Activities Downhill skiing, Cross country skiing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Snowshoeing. Fish Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout. Mammals Cougar, Bobcat, Bull Moose, Swift Fox, Wapiti (Elk), White Tailed Deer, Mule Deer, Pronghorn Antelope. Birds – Pelican, Ferruginous Hawk, Golden Eagle, Prairie Falcon, Sharp tailed Grouse, Grey Catbird, Dusky Flycatcher, Hairy Woodpecker, Wild Turkey, Trumpeter Swan, Burrowing Owl, Wood Warblers, Loon. Reptiles – Western Hognose Snake, Smoothgreen Snake, Yellowbelly Racer Snake, Prairie Rattlesnakes. The geological story of the area began 70 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. At that time most of southern Alberta was covered by the warm, shallow Bearpaw Sea. Silt and clay settled onto the sea floor and compressed into shale now called the Bearpaw Formation. Throughout its geological history living creatures have flourished in the area. Many of these creatures have been fossilized and remain. There is evidence of marine mollusks, amonites, baculites, Triceratops and sabre toothed tigers.
