Outlook (2009-10) Charlotte Wendner came on strong down the stretch as a junior to earn All-Big 12 honors by tying for 10th at the 2009 Big 12 Championships. The finish was Wendner’s second straight top-20 showing at the conference tournament, after finishing 18th as a sophomore in 2008. Entering her senior season, the native of Bjarred, Sweden, will shoot for more consistency near the top of Nebraska’s lineup while expanding her leadership role. An NGCA Scholastic All-American in 2009, Wendner is also a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection. “We will look for Charlotte to be a consistent presence near the top of our lineup as a senior,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “We have seen glimpses of her potential. She can be one of the top players in the country based on her length and repetoire of shots.”

Junior (2008-09) Wendner earned All-Big 12 honors by tying for 10th at the 2009 Big 12 Championships. She closed with a three-round total of 232 on the par-73 layout of the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas, to claim a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship Team. It was her second straight top-20 Big 12 finish. She opened with a 75, before firing an even-par 73 in the second round. She was tied for third heading into the final round, before tying for 10th. She competed in NU’s lineup in eight of 11 events in 2008-09, ranking third on the team with a 77.85 stroke average. She played an increased role in the spring with the departure of Kate White from the top of the Husker lineup. Wendner opened the year by tying for eighth (222) at the Chip-N Club Invite. Playing outside of NU’s lineup, she fired a career-best, three-under-par 69 in the final round. She earned a lineup spot at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invite, but struggled to a tie for 63rd (249). After sitting out the McHaney/Morehead Invite and the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, Wendner replaced Mary Kate Bird in NU’s lineup and played well for the Huskers at The Challenge at Wolfdancer to close the fall. Wendner fired NU’s second-best score with a 231 (79-78-74) to tie for 17th, trailing only Kate White among the Huskers. Wendner opened the spring by leading Nebraska at the Aztec Spring Invite with a tie for 21st (72-79-80-231). She tied for 81st (237) in a 43-team field at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah

Island Classic, before settling for 71st (239) at the UNLV Spring Invitational. She began to build momentum with a tie for 38th (227) as Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher at the Mountain View Collegiate. She continued to play well as NU’s top finisher (26th, 234) at the Lady Buckeye, before capping her season with All-Big 12 honors.

Sophomore (2007-08) Wendner earned a lineup spot in nine of Nebraska’s 13 tournaments, including the Big 12 Championships and NCAA Central Regional, while playing as an individual in three other events. Wendner competed at the NCAA Central Regional in the No. 2 spot in the Husker lineup after finishing 18th at the 2008 Big 12 Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. Wendner’s three-round total of 241 trailed only Elli Brown in the Husker lineup at the Big 12 Championships. Wendner added a tie for 77th (238) at the regional in Austin, Texas, to help the Huskers to a tie for 10th in the 21-team field. Wendner established a career-best 222 to tie for second at the BYU Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah. She smashed her previous career-best tournament total of 230 set just days earlier at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. Her breakout performance included a season-best, one-under-par 71 in the final round at Utah. She added a 73 in the second round after opening with a 78 at the BYU Dixie Classic. Although Wendner did not earn a lineup spot at the 2007 Bronco Invite, she posted the first top-five finish of her career by placing fourth (236), including a second-round 75. She finished the 2007 fall season by helping NU to a second-place finish among 20 teams at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto, where she tied for 47th (238). During the spring, Wendner earned a lineup spot at the Texas A&M “Mo” Morial, where she tied for 66th (265) in rugged scoring conditions. She bounced back to claim a spot in NU’s top five at Mountain View, where she tied for 51st (230), including an opening-round 75. She tied for 53rd (246) at the Lady Buckeye. In her first tournament of 2007-08, Wendner competed as an individual and tied for 26th (233) at NU’s Chip-N Club Invite. She also played as an individual at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, tying for 64th (236), while adding a tie for 48th (161) at the rain-shortened

Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invite.

Freshman (2006-07) The first Husker golfer from Sweden since four-year letterwinner Catha Fogelberg (1999-2002), Wendner played her best golf at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., during her final appearance of the year. She set a season-best with a 231 over three rounds, including a season-best 75 in the second round. She added a final-round 76 in her only appearance of the fall when she finished in a tie for 21st at the Chip-N Club Invite. Wendner also played two rounds at the Red Rocks Invite early in the spring, tying for 73rd (171).

High School/AmateurWendner produced a stroke average of 77.91 while

competing in Europe during the first half of 2006. She won the 2004 Norberg Open on the strength of a career-low round of 68. She finished third in 2006.

She added a second-place showing in the Skandia Tour Elit #4 with solid rounds of 76-72-73. She is a six-time club champion in Sweden.

Wendner attended Polhemskolan High School and was coached by Marie From.

Personal The daughter of Anders and Adrienne Wendner, Charlotte was born in Lund, Sweden, on Aug. 14, 1986. She has one brother, Christian. Charlotte chose Nebraska over Virginia, Old Dominion and North Carolina-Greensboro. A business administration major with a 3.561 GPA at Nebraska, Wendner is a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 pick and a five-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

2009-10 NEbrASKA WOMEN’S GOLF

Outlook (2009-10) Mary Kate Bird experienced a breakout season as a sophomore in 2008-09, but a late-season wrist injury kept her out of Nebraska’s lineup at the Big 12 Championships for the second straight season. After posting NU’s best stroke average in 2008-09, Bird will be relied on for consistent scoring and leadership near the top of the Husker lineup in 2009-10. The junior from Kansas City, Mo., will also hope to stay healthy to help the Huskers push for a return to NCAA Regional competition. In addition to her skills on the course, Bird is a solid student, earning first-team academic All-Big 12 honors a year ago. She is also a leader in the community for the Huskers, serving as the golf team’s representative on the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, while earning one of NU’s prestigious HERO Leadership Awards in 2009. “Mary Kate showed that she can play at a really high level last season,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “She is an intelligent player with solid fundamentals. She has worked hard to continue to improve her game, and I think that the experience she has gained while also facing adversity is going to help our team this season.”

Sophomore (2008-09) Bird rose to the top of the Husker lineup as a sophomore in 2008-09, after serving as a part-time starter as a true freshman. But a wrist injury suffered in the final regular-season tournament prevented her from competing at the 2009 Big 12 Championships. Before injuring her wrist in the first round of the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational on April 18, Bird was NU’s leader in the spring of 2009. She finished with a team-best season stroke average of 76.68 - better than a three-stroke per round improvement from 2007-08. Bird’s season stroke average also ranked as the eighth-best mark in Husker history. Bird opened the season by finishing second with a career-best 215 to lead the Huskers to the Chip-N Club Invitational title. Her opening round of the season tied her then-career best with a 70, before adding rounds of 72 and 73 to finish the 54-hole tournament at Wilderness Ridge at one-under-par.

Mary KatebirDJuniorTwo LettersKansas City, Mo. (St. Teresa’s Academy)
