Jen Harrell, HRIS manager at JE Dunn Construction, says, “JE Dunn is a family-owned and -operated company. While this means that there is a lot of longevity in the workplace and a great focus on work-life balance, historically there has also been a tendency to stick to what we know.”

“HR in particular was stuck in the past,” Harrell continues. “As a traditionally very admin-focused department, HR employees would typically spend their days completing and passing around paper-work and making sure that forms were filled out correctly. Recruiting and applicant tracking was very manual. Despite receiving electronic application forms, staff would still have to send out replies and offers manually – a time-consuming process. What’s more, there was no formal onboarding system in place. Due to the company’s regional structure, onboarding processes were decentralized and disjointed, which resulted in inconsistencies. Performance management was similarly paper based and inefficient.”

JE Dunn Construction decided to completely overhaul its existing HR processes. The company selected SAP® SuccessFactors® solutions as the foundation for this transformation and started out by imple-menting the SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding, SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting, and SAP SuccessFactors Performance & Goals solutions. Harrell recalls, “We wanted to digitize and automate paper-based process-es and introduce employee self-service by putting HR systems online. SAP SuccessFactors solutions offered all of the functionalities we were looking for and more. The solution has completely changed the way we manage talent.”

JE Dunn Construction recently partnered with 3D Results, a consulting group experienced with SAP SuccessFactors solutions, to expand the scope of the solution by implementing the SAP SuccessFactors

Compensation solution. “The 3D Results team has been excellent,” Harrell says. “We are very happy with the level of service that we receive, and the SAP SuccessFactors Compensation implementation and integration went really well.”

“The support we receive from SAP SuccessFactors solutions is equally outstanding,” Harrell continues. “It has always been more than a vendor to us – it is a business partner. As well as supplying all the tools we need to execute our modernization initiative, the SAP SuccessFactors solutions team offers support and advice. In addition to the many training sessions, Webinars, and user groups available, we can always turn to the SAP SuccessFactors solutions team whenever we have any questions. Knowing that we can always get that support is a huge advantage that it offers over other vendors.”

With SAP SuccessFactors solutions, JE Dunn Construction has gained a cutting-edge solution that brings HR processes up-to-date.

SAP SuccessFactors solutions have eliminated many of the repetitive, manual administrative tasks that HR staff spent so much time on in the past. Manag-ing onboarding online with SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding, rather than with paper files and forms, saves JE Dunn Construction a significant amount of time. Previously, it would take two weeks to onboard a new hire. Now, it takes just three days – a 78% reduction. Today, if the company has a new hire starting on Monday, it can start executing the onboarding on Tuesday and everything will be processed and ready in time for their first day.

“SAP SuccessFactors solutions have dramatically accelerated and simplified the onboarding process,” says Harrell. “We have had a lot of great feedback

from managers about how much more efficient it is. Managers receive automatic notifications so that they know what is going on at every stage. SAP SuccessFactors solutions enable us to get every-thing ready on time and focus on more value-adding tasks. It also means a significant reduction in new hires showing up on Monday morning and their laptop isn’t ready.”

“Similarly, now that our once-informal performance management and compensation processes are managed through SAP SuccessFactors solutions, we have seen huge improvements,” Harrell notes. “In the past, there was no pay-for-performance system in place. Today, managers and employees are having detailed, performance-based conversations before staff receive compensation. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, as most people like to hear how they are performing and how that relates to their bonuses.”

Harrell says, “The team for SAP SuccessFactors solutions is also helping us to integrate an additional new-hire tool – a kind of welcome pack with videos and a buddy program – into SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding. We hope that this will help us reduce our attrition rate within the first three years of a new hire joining. It’s great that we can receive this service at no cost to help us figure out what the right answer is for JE Dunn Construction.”
