DDear ReaderWe have surely mentioned it before. Inspiration is impossible to measure when you

are being creative. It can be in the form of painting, writing, decorating the home

or something completely different. There are just some days, when it happens with

effortless ease and then some days when you simply cannot fi nd the inspiration. So-

metimes the creativity and the inspiration come at the most peculiar times and from

the strangest places. Have you never rearranged the furniture in the living room at

midnight? We have done so many times! I have also experienced waking up early in

the morning simply needing to get up and write. Ideas for articles or simply good

wording for a text. It can happen in the middle of an intimate conversation at a café,

where I suddenly must write key words down on a napkin. When working with crea-

tivity in a professional capacity as we do here at the magazine, we can unfortunately

not always wait until the inspiration comes to us. Once in a while we must be creative

on command. I have had the introduction for this issue open and closed many times a

day over the past 14 days. I have written a bit and deleted it again. Sat and stared into

the screen. The words simply did not come to me.

I want our introductions to be very personal. Many thoughts and feelings are put into

it. It may be a bit philosophical, but always with a positive approach. It has been a

period with lots of unforeseen challenges and things, which have affected me emo-

tionally. Finding positive energy in such situations can be diffi cult. There is nothing I

would rather want than to be one of those persons, whom I wrote about in the last

issue. One of them, where the sun is always shining even on a rainy day. On the other

hand it is very natural, human and completely okay to have days, where you simply

have diffi culty fi nding positive thoughts. I think everyone has these types of days. Also

even if you are fundamentally a positive person and constantly working on being even

more positive. Suddenly I thought. That is precisely what I will write about this time.

That is something, which everyone can relate to.

It is incredible how little is needed to turn it around again and you think to yourself,

”everything will work out!” A thoughtful unexpected comment or someone, who

does something special to make another person happy, add positively to the emotional

score. Small things, which make a big difference.

We hope that we can be your positive and encouraging inspiration in your every day...

Best regards,

Lonnie and Vivian

AThe artichoke can almost be considered a “snobby” thistle. It is closely related to the thistle family, but does not have the prickly stalks. In addition to being incredibly decorative both with and without fl owers, it is also extremely delicious.

Here we will show you how you can use artichokes in various decorations and bouquets. Artichokes with and without fl owers are exceedingly striking and at the same time very rustic. They create a natural “centre” in both decorations and bouquets. They can stand alone, but are also beautiful in the correct company of other plants. In fl ower speak the rank of fl owers is discussed and fl owers are divided into queens and soldiers. Queen fl ower are prominent and are nice alone or with a few soldiers to accentuate them. Soldiers are smaller and less “important” fl owers, which bring out the beauty of the queen. The artichoke must be considered a queen with its unusual and at the same time elegant appearance. Furthermore, it is quite long-lasting.

Artichoke as Table DecorationArtichokes are nice to use as table decorations. Simple, unique and very rustic. It is simply charming when the green leaves start turning brownish around the edges. As an extra touch you can write the names of the guests directly on the artichokes. You can also tie a piece of wire around the stalk and attach a manila label, where you can write the name of the guests.

AAALarge Centrepiece with Artichoke Rustic Centrepiece on a Foot Oasis Floral Foam Blooming Artichoke Flowers from the Garden: here you can use what you have on hand. We have used Roses, Autumn Joy, Siberian Melic Grass, hydrangeas, Great Masterwort, Statice and Turtleheads

Let the oasis fl oral foam absorb lots of water. Then position the fl oral foam in the centrepiece so that the fl oral foam sticks up about 1 cm over the edge of the centrepiece. Cover the edge of the foam with leaves from the Autumn Joy. They have strong leaves full of water, so they will last a long time. Arrange the large artichoke in the middle of the decoration. Now add the rest of the fl owers. Make sure that you place them randomly and not too arranged. This gives the most beautiful expression.

Let it fl oat until it is full of water and sinks to the bottom. Place the artichoke in the middle of the bowl. Wind the clematis vines around the head. Fasten them in a few places using small pieces of steel wire. Stick the statice into the foam and let them fi ll out the vines. Finish off with pearls strung onto silver wire or thread. Then fasten the thread in a couple places on the vines.

Start with the artichoke in the middle of the bouquet. Build up the rest of the fl owers around the artichoke head in a spiral manner. Arrange them as randomly as possible. When you have achieved the desired size, fi nish off with the cabbage leaves around the edge of the bouquet. They can also be replaced by hosta leaves. The cabbage leaves and the artichoke quickly give the fl ower water a bad odour, so it is important to change the water in the vase every day. At the same time remember to rinse the stalks under running water for at least a minute. In this way you will extend the lifetime of the bouquet and keep the level of bacteria in the vase down.
