Work Hard, Play Hard, but Work always before Play This is one of our mottos at Jerry Ross. We celebrated a se-mester of great work with our Award’s As-sembly and Staff vs. Students Basketball
game on Wednesday. This is our 4th year hosting the event and it was a huge crowd pleaser. The staff won for a 4th year in a row with a score of 24-19. The students put up a good fight though. Mr. Hedl and D.A.R.E. officer Ser-geant Benson were guest players for the staff and may have given us a slight advantage, not to mention the considerable height dif-ference. Nonetheless, it was a 4 PEAT for the staff!
We also celebrated great reading success again during the 2nd quarter. We raised the minimum level of AR points at all grades and 95% of our students met this point chal-
lenge. We have a special incentive, “Donuts for Double Points” and over 230 students qualified! My car still smells heavenly and to visualize what 23 dozen donuts looks like, check out Mrs. Muir in the back of this picture. The boxes of do-nuts stacked up to her chin!
Finally, it is truly time for our biggest fam-ily event of the year, Winterfest. Every-one is busy with last minute preparations and we hope to see you at “Winter Around The World” next Friday. Check out one of the cool signs Mrs. Vassil made for this event. Have a great weekend
and stay safe. `ÜáA fàÉÄtÜé

FROM THE NURSE HEAD LICE FACTS: Head lice
are insects that are found on the hair of humans.
Head lice live close to the human scalp and move by
crawling very quickly. They DO NOT jump or fly.
Head lice are spread by direct contact with the hair
of an infested person. Personal hygiene or cleanliness
in the home or school has nothing to do with getting
head lice. Nits (also known as the eggs) are oval or
teardrop in shape, very small (about the size of a knot
in thread), and are yellow-brown or white in color.
Nits are firmly attached at the base of the hair shaft
with a cement-like substance. The adult louse is about
the size of a sesame seed and light brown in color, but
the color can vary depending on hair color. Teach your
children the following good habits to follow: NEVER
share hats, scarves, coats, combs, brushes, hair clips,
etc. Parents are encouraged to check their child’s
hair/scalp thoroughly and frequently for any signs of
head lice especially if your child is complaining of itch-
iness. For more information, visit the CDC web-site
at: www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/gen_info/faqs.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Arena.

Give Kids a Smile Day
Concerned about the growing number of children who are unable to access needed dental care, Dr. Susan Royer and Staff will provide free dental care to less fortunate children on Friday, February 7th from 8am to 1 pm at her office at 9291 E. 109th Ave, CP. Dr. Royer and Staff have participated in this program for 7 years. Dr. Royer is among hundreds of dentists across the state that have volunteered to pro-vide free dental care for the 11th Annual Give Kids a Smile Day. Dentists are coming together to offer this day of free care to make a healthy difference in the lives of children, while raising awareness of the growing number of families who don’t have access to dental care. We know we cannot treat all of the patients needing care in a single day, but our goal is to raise aware-ness of the problem and help as much as we can.
