Hi there! My name is Jess and I am a designer and illustrator living and working in Vancouver B.C. I graduated from Medicine Hat College with an Applied Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Communications and I have been pursuing my passion for design and illustration ever since.

When I’m not in a studio, I enjoy drinking coffee, listening to live music, watching Netflix and redecorating my apartment. By exploring critical design, I created the fictional brandDreamlogic which is a company that has created a simpleheadset that safely monitors every aspect of your sleep.exact imagery, brain wave patterns and emotions feltthroughout your dream are only a few of the featuresDreamlogic is able to monitor. the headset is able toreconstruct the subjects visual cortex by using variousalgorithms, tracking eeg and analyzing brain wavesignals all of which you are available to view the nextmorning on the Dreamlogic app.

I pitched the company as being a great new advancement in technology but ultimately flipped the concept by arguing that companies would be able to invest into your subconscious and would profit from your vulnerability.

using design as a way of expression, I designed a seriesof interactive illustrations, posters and videos to communicate the issue of animal extinction. the concept was to show a major world crisis through various mediums in order to portray the message that animal extinction is occuring right in front of our eyes and that we have more of an impact than we think.

When I was tasked to a project that revolved around research I decided to portray and investigate one of my favourite tV shows, Seinfeld. As part of the investigation I underwent hundreds of hours of the famous Larry David show, watching and re watching episodes so I was able to get all of the facts and details correct for the records.

As a final result I created a confidential folder for each of the main characters which included a detailed criminal report, an infographic describing the characters habits as well as a typographic representation of each of the characters famous quotes. I then developed an installation of a FBI desk where there were famous items from the show including spilt Junior Mints, a black and white cookie as well as Superman memorabilia. I presented my research as if I were the FBI agent in the middle of an investigation looking for these suspects who each had mulitple offences. one of the biggest charge included Jerry Seinfeld, who was being a nose picker and denying it.

Have you ever imagined the clouds as shapes of turtles, bunnies or even as a dinosaur? I always find myself making objects out of the obscurity of the clouds and decided to illustrate a world where the clouds are similar to people.

I came up with a main character named Charlie who alongside his sidekick bird kirby, always gets into trouble since he is always changing and altering his shape. I also illustrated an uncle Doug, who is a big loving Cumulonimbus cloud who is fun loving and always jolly. In total I imagined 12 various character types, 2 of which are mean tornados who are the skies ultimate bullies. the characters and situations were represented in various forms of media including print, video as well as gIFS.

As a cat owner and illustrator, I found myself wondering one day what my fat loveable cat Chaz would look like if he were a cartoon character. As you can tell from the illustration, he loves to eat. He is also the biggest napper I know and loves to play with pencils and plastic bags. though Chaz does not necessarily eat radishes, donuts or chinese food, he is not picky on his cat food so I’m sure he would enjoy eating just about anything. this illustration was a fun independent project which turned out to be an accurate representation of Chazzy Chaz.

My intention of this study was to objectively view the brain which is so complex and so intricate and creatively redesign it as a series of simple and logical patterns. By overlapping and rotating genetic components of the human mind, I created the series from neurodegenerative disorders, senses and underlying cerebral cortex patterns and then used these patterns to collectively create connections and alternative viewpoints.

By using a complex topic I created simple illustrations which were then represented through a series of complex technologies and ultimately created a simple final product.
