StronglyAgreeAgree she is motivationalStronglyAgree We always learn from every lesson, we dont just get a grade and deal with it.

Agree Yes, Mrs. Gough is very helpful especially in Office Hours.StronglyAgree

Mrs. Gough is always very encouraging and helpful whenever we need it. I think that she is alwaysthere if we need her after we have talked to our table or others in the room.

StronglyAgree

Every time I have a question Mrs. Gough has one of two responses. She either coaches me into the

right answer without going right out and saying the answer. Or she gives me a hint as to the answer. This really helps me to better learn the material, because my teacher doesn't just tell me the answer.StronglyAgree

She gives very detailed feed back when our comments come and she divised the level system to seewhere we are and what she can to to teach us

StronglyAgree She encourages and helps me when I dont understand something.

StronglyAgree

You definatly help me and encourage me to do my best work. I know that since you put so mucheffort into getting class prepared for us I should do the same back for you. So I try and staycompletely focused and try my hardest in all that I do.

StronglyAgree

In class when we are off topic she reminds us that it doens't help us learn. I like that she does thisbecause sometimes my mind wanders.

StronglyAgree Great at that.

StronglyAgree Ms. Gough always helps me understand problems in a way that I can relate to, and when I don't getit, she keeps helping me until I do.StronglyAgree She helps me when I need help, but also challenges me to do the problem on my own.

StronglyDisagree

Mrs. Gough is good at teaching the best way of doing the work but I don't feel like she encouragesme at all. When I walk in the math room for class everyday it feels like it's just me teaching myself the material, and that everyone else in my class is in a separate class.

AgreeMs. Gough never put me down. Even when she said I needed a better grade on an assignment, shealways gave me words of encouragement. I never thought about her as attempting to be mean or unencouraging.

StronglyAgree

I love it when I see my work on Mrs. Gough's blog. It's also awesome how she was as excited as Iwas when I got a 100 on my 2nd chance test.

StronglyAgree

I strongly agree because at times when I didn't understand, instead of telling me the answer or

saying something like "Its not that hard to understand! you should have listened the first time!" youwould say something encourageing along with something imformative to help me solve and correctmy own problem. you didn't assume that I wasn't listening when I didn't understand, and youfocused on learning and not actually the number grade. This made math less stressful, and I wasable to take much more in, and by the end of the year my first chance test grades improvedimmensly I think just because of the process you took us through to learn it.

StronglyAgree Very encouraging

StronglyAgreeAgree

StronglyAgree

She always allows th eclass to do multiple problems until the WHOLE class understands theconcept. And she allowed second and sometimes third chance tests to make sure we understood

everything.StronglyAgree I really felt encouraged all year long to do the best that I could personally do in math class.

StronglyAgree She helps me do my best to understand the material

StronglyAgree

I feel that when in this class when I didn't understand me you would do anything and everything tohelp me out. Also I feel like you knew that I could do better sometimes and pushed me so I couldrealize that too.

StronglyAgree She is very confident in my and my classmates work

Strongly Mrs. Gough is always trying to help you get your work done and helping you find the best way to

Agree complete assignments.StronglyAgree I am strongly motivated to put forth my best effort in this class.

StronglyAgree

Ms.Gough always encourages me to do my best work, even though sometimes she has to yell at meshe allways encourages me to do my best

StronglyAgree

Strongly agree is a definate understatement. Since the first test Mrs. Gough has been amazing helpand you can tell she wanted me to do my best.

StronglyAgree You always encourage me to do good work and try my hardest on test and in office hours

StronglyAgree She always give me higher level work to practice wih for honors.

StronglyAgree Mrs. Gough really helped me to become confident that i can do math well.

StronglyAgree

You always are available to help your students and I never feel weird asking you to help me out. Ialways feel like I have given it my best.

StronglyAgree

She always tells us to strive to do our best and if someone doesnt quite get it, later in office hoursshe will go over it with that person until they get it

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgreeStronglyAgree

Whenever someone has a question, it gets answered! And when we use cradles, everyoneparticipates.

Agree She is very open to people raising their hands and asking questions when they don't understandsomething. She also lets students answer questions and do trial and error which is very helpful.

StronglyAgree

Class disscussion is a big thing for Mrs. Gough. She wants us to figure it out on our owns insteadof her telling us what the material is and how you shoud do it. She encourages self learning andstruggling untill you get it right.

StronglyAgree

All the time! We never just have 'lectures' and thats one of the main things that makes math myfavorite classes.

StronglyAgree

We do work in groups and we have cradles to submit our answers to the teacher to see what we allthink and all have input

StronglyAgree If one person knows how to do something, she will let them explain how they do their workcompared to hers.

StronglyAgree

Math is a little different than any of my other clasess. We discuss and help each other out ineverything. I like this method s much better than any other class due to the small diferences wehave compared to those other clasess.

StronglyAgree

We never just have to do what she says. All the time she asks us what our preference is and onetime she even let us go outside! I like that us as students get to input our ideas.

StronglyAgree Definately one of the main reasons why I did as well as I did this year.

StronglyAgree

On classes when we take notes, we have conversations and arguments about what is right andhow to get to that point. We teach each other, too. It's really fun to be able to participate and it'salso better to learn by teaching.

StronglyAgree

She constantly asks for our input about decisions, and calls on us to answer example questionswhen going over notes. Of all my teachers she is the most willing to hear my input.

StronglyAgree She loves to talk with her students and for everyone to participate.

StronglyAgree

She always alllowed us to statewhat's on our minds or figure out a problem by speaking. Her arrangement of our class, being in groups instead of individual desk, shows that she is open togroup work and discussion.

StronglyAgree

It's really helpful when we use the Nspire and do problem after problem until everyoneunderstands. It's not like an official class discussion like in english class, but we work off of eachother and help each other out.

StronglyAgree

I love how we sat in tables the whole year, it was more fun and less intimidating. It made me feelless stupid when I didn't know the answer because odds are at least one other person at my tabledidn't understand either, and it made me feel smart and awesome when I did know the answer andI was able to share that with someone else. It made me more prone to asking questions that Ineeded to know, and I was comfortable with asking when i didn't understand. I wish I sat in tablesevery class.

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgreeAgree We got to use our calculaters with th cradels and that was fun because we got to work as a classStronglyAgree She let's us work in groups and solve problems together, which is helpful.

StronglyAgree

She designed our tables so that we could work as teams to solve problems. We used math as agroup, and learned how to work with many different people in math class.

StronglyAgree She does want to make sure we understand the material.

StronglyAgree

Most of our lessons end up being big discussions which I like becasuse I get allmy questionsanswered and it's a little more relaxed

StronglyAgree She like to hears our ideas and what we think about aseesments and etc.

StronglyAgree

This is true but sometimes we will speak out of turn and that is when she will stop and tell us tolisten instead of talk.

StronglyAgree

Agree We always have class discussions about every topic that we discus, I enjoy this becausesometimes it will give us a more in depth approach to what we are doing.

StronglyAgree whenever we have questions she basically stops the class to answer it with detail

JGough SCF – Algebra I - 2011

Agree We talk in class almost every day but its also because were discussing what were gonna do thatday. we never really have like a discussion about things other than work

Agree One of the things she has us do is come up with answers as a group through polls on our caculators.

StronglyAgree

Mrs. Gough really wants the classes to be all about whether we understand it or not, and shewants us to talk to our table mates (about math) and to ask questions. I think having the tablesreally help with the class not getting bored and not being afraid to ask for help.

StronglyAgree

You always try to find ways to make class fun! We use many different methods of learning besides just taking notes. You love to get the students' opinions and never miss an opportunity to let usspeak.

AgreeSometimes, when we do group work we have open conversations and learn together but when she

just stands up at the front of the classroom and teaches it is hard for us to have a good andbenficial conversation

Prompt 3: The homework in Algebra I helps me better learn and understand thematerial.

Combined Data

StronglyAgree The homework always reflexs on what we learned in class

Agree homework makes you solid in a sectionAgree The packets and book-work we do helps me practice the new things we learned.

Disagree It really doesn't help me becuase if I know it, I know it, and if I don't, I don't.StronglyAgree

The homework for me is a review of what we had been learning in class that day. I think that it isbeneficial and helpful to help us learn and review.

StronglyAgree

Sometimes, a bit of the work is tideous, but then Mrs. G cuts the amount down. Another thing thathas really helped me this year is the fact that the answers are posted her webpage. One thing thatcould help with homework a little is Mrs. G checking to see if we did it. We could even go over it inclass. We never talk about homework from past nights unless we as the students specifically bringit up.

StronglyAgree

We check it ourselves then we can try again to see our errors and improve in our skills, also, since

there is less homework I take more of my time doing it and not rushing through it since I havemore timeAgree The homework renforces what we learned that day in class but can get tedious.

StronglyAgree

I think since there are only 5 to 10 questions in homework it encourages us to show all of our workand try and try again until we get the right answer because we don't need to rush since its only 7or 8 questions. I think it would be different if there were 30 questions.

StronglyAgree

The homeowork she gices us always gives us more practice on what we do in class. The fact thatshe doesn't grade most of the homework is cool! Also, i know some people don't do it which is justharmful to themselves and not anyone else.

StronglyAgree

I love the way you approach homework, as a learning tool and an assesment of one's skills, not anassignment.

DisagreeI liked not having a lot of homework, but when we did, if I didn't know how to do the work, homework was not going to help me. I liked doing practice problems in class where we could work

with someone who could help us and Ms. Gough was always there too.StronglyAgree

I love the deep practice, because the more problems, the less carefully one might tend to do them. Also, you don't end up doing all the problems wrong because you check if you are doing it rightafter each one.

Agree The homework is always based on what we've learned that day which is really helpful for me andwe don't have to check it everyday so it doesn't stress you out.

NoOpinion

I really don't have an opinion about the homework. I think homework is homework. But her homework did inhance my understanding.

Agree

The deep practice is really helpful, but a lot of times I don't have access to a computer. Normally Iget around that by plugging my answer into my calculator, but it would be great if we coulddownload the answers to the homework in power point form during class. We did that a few timesand it worked well.

StronglyAgree

In classes last year we would just listen to the teacher and take notes and then do about thirty

problems for homework. But this year, We would be involved in class discussions and do theformative assessments, so it was like we were doing homework and test type problems in class, and then we maybe had ten more for homework. Basically my point is that when it was time for meto do the homework, i had learned how to do the problem and was able to perfect it and thehomework we did after the work and class made the steps to solving it sink in so i wasnt justmemorizing the material. I think it wasn't too much homework, and when i needed extra practice, iliked how it was always available.

StronglyAgreeAgreeStronglyDisagree I am completely against all homework but studying for assesments.

Strongly

Agree

The problems that we do help me, and it is really helpful that we can check our answers on the

portal.Agree I felt that the homework really helped, but it was never checked so I did not feel as inclined to do

my best effort as I would have if it were graded.StronglyAgree The homework is a review from what we learn in class and is very helpful

StronglyAgree

The homework prepared us for EXACTLY what we needed to know. I can't believe I'm saying thisbut it was the best homework I've ever gotten because it actually helped.

Agree Homework helped but I thought that having it every night was a bit too much.

AgreeThe homework in math classes overall is not very helpful because you just do more and moreproblems and that is what you do in class. Plus i know that a lot of people dont do the homeworkbecause she doesnt chack most of the time and not checking encourages bad habbits.

Page 9: Jill Gough’s SCF – Algebra I – 2011

AgreeDisagree We never graded or went over homework, So it didnt really help.Agree sometimes it was hard and i didnt understand but the majority of the time that didnt apply.

Disagree

At the begining of the year it helped because we had to do deep practice and you checked our homework everyday. but since christmas break it hasnt really helped because you forgot to checkour work. but recently during the trig unit, the homework really helped because I would do it inclass and get it done at school when i can remember how to do it and get help for it. instead of being at home and not knowing how to solve it

Strongly

Agree

I don't know wether I have a good or not homework grade because she doesn't check them, but I

found the deep practice to be very helpful.

NoOpinion

Some homework helped, but only for the people who did it. I know that in the beginning of theyear, doing the homework was a little helpful, but by the end of the year i think people learned thatMrs. Gough doesn't really check our homework so they might have done it but not done it well or even tried at all. I think that if Mrs. Gough checked our homework, then it would help more becuasewe would be getting feedback. Even though the answers were on Moodle most of the time and thatwas helpful, i think that just seeing the answer isn't good enough for some people. For me, beingable to see the work is very helpful which is why i like how you put the answers on Moodle, butsome people need feedback and guiding through the problem if they really don't get it.

StronglyAgree

The homework is great practice! It helps me to understand the material and learn from mymistakes. It is also great to have it when I need practice problems for tests. Deep Practiceproblems really help because it shows me what I did wrong and teaches me the right way to do it. Inever make that simple mistake again.

Disagree I usually get it in the classroom so I dont see that much of a point in homework but it never hurtmy learning

StronglyAgree They show me where I am in that unit, so that I know what to study more.

StronglyAgree they helped me know where I stood

StronglyAgree

I like when we take formative assesments so we can know where we are, and how much practiceand work we need to do to get to level 3.

Agree Yes the formative assessments are very helpful and you should do it every year.StronglyAgree

Formative assessments really help my learning and growth throughout the year and help whenthe tests come up to know what I need to do.

StronglyAgree

I love the formative assements. They help me to realize where I am in my math skills of thesection, and where I should be. This is another one of my favorite parts of math. I also love thosedays in math when we just sit at our tables and quietly do our own work, and check with a friend.

StronglyAgree

It lets me see what I need to work on and then get a better grip on what I should ask the teacher about

StronglyAgree The assessments help me know what I need to practice and what I am good at.

StronglyAgree

These help me to know where I am and where I need to be. These also help us to go the extra mileand try the level fours to see what we would be required to know if we were in honors. These werea complete sucess for me. I give them 2 thumbs up!

Agree I like that it helps us know what level we're on and then it allows us to move toward a goal. Theformative assessments are also great things to study off of for tests and quizzes.

Agree I think we had a little to many of them though.

Agree It didn't help me understand algebra better, but it did help me to see where I was, which helpedme to work on the things I needed to more. Formative assesments were very helpful.StronglyAgree

I could see exactly what skills I needed to work on, as well as challenge myself with the level 4questions.

StronglyAgree

The formative assessments help me see what I know, what I need to practice, and what I need tore-learn.

Agree I believe the formative assesments gave me a chance to see what I needed to work on morebefore going deeper into the chapter.

StronglyAgree

I love the formative assesment. It really helps me understand where I am and where I need to be.Also, it's great when I'm at level four when I think I don't understand the concept.

StronglyAgree

It was great, and i think a fantastic idea. It makes since that you would learn things by level. Thatway i can see where I am and where i need to go from there. It let me see what i need to be able toachieve, and how much extra studying i need to do. I like how on the formative assessment

homework, there was challenge problems from the next level.StronglyAgree

No Opinion to me, the formitve assessments are a way of seeing where im at rather than helping improve myunderstanding. i improve my understanding during classtime and OH

StronglyAgree

I think that since the problems were leveled 1-4 it made it really easy for me to find where I was inunderstanding the material.

Agree I was able to see what I still needed to work on before we took the test.StronglyAgree

They really showed me where I stood in regards to certain material, and gave me a good idea of what topics I had to study most.

StronglyAgree The assessments show me my skill level and where I am in learning.

Strongly

Agree

The assessments covered exactly what was going to be on the test which was good because then

I knew what I needed more work on and what I was good at.StronglyAgree

The formative assessments helped me understand my level in the material we were learing andwhere I need to get to.

Agree I think the formative assessments help me learn what i need to work on and learn what i amcomfortable with.

Disagree I thought that these were good only for letting me know exactly how good I am at a subject.

Disagree I personally did not like the formative assessments, Because they werent graded and i just didntlike them.

StronglyAgree It helps me study for the tests too. They help me find out what i know and what i need to work on.

Disagree they only showed really what i didnt know not what i did

Page 12: Jill Gough’s SCF – Algebra I – 2011

StronglyAgree It helps me know what level I'm at and what level I want to reach for.

StronglyAgree

I think that the formatvie assessments help a lot. They let you know what level you're at and whatlevel you need to be at. They're really helpful to study with, and i think that they're also helpfulbecause people can look at your work to help them with the problem.

StronglyAgree

I like how they are organized into the four different levels. It helps me to understand which level Ishould be at and which type of problems I need more work on. I also like how they are not gradedmost of the time because then I am more relaxed when taking them. It gives me a chance to justrelax and learn.

StronglyAgree

I really liked having the formative assesments because they let me have a good understanding towhere I was and what I needed to improve on. The only thing I didnt like was when a couple timesthis year they were graded and wish they had just been a ssee-where-you-are type of thinginstead of a grade

StronglyAgree I always study my hardest when I first take the test, then I use the first test to help me learn

No Opinion I saw it as a test and a study guideStronglyAgree

The second -chance tests really help me learn, and I use the 1st chance tests to help me learnwhat i need to practice to do well.

Agree The first chance test for me was very helpful because it is like a practice test that really helps youfigure out what you need to learn.

Disagree

I used the first chance tests as if they were the only test we were going to take. If you do all thehard work the first time then the 2nd chance test will be only the things you struggle with and you

will have less you need to focus on. If you do the work early the ending work is less complicatedand easier and is more beneficial to your learning.StronglyDisagree I study for both tests equally, though I do think some people do the above.

StronglyDisagree

I prepared for it as it was a test because that's how I get the most benefits. They don't have 2ndchance in high school so I have to learn now and my knowledge is truly tested this way and Idon't have to do as many corrections and not retake the entire test

StronglyAgree My mistakes on the 1st chance test shows me what I need to get better at.

StronglyDisagree

I use these as a test because they do count! this is the main test and the second chance test islike a booster shot. It keeps you thinking about the material but it also gives you a second shot atboosting your grade.

Disagree

I still took it as a test and was sometimes pleasantly surprised that we had a second chance. I

admit there were a couple instances when I forgot we had a est and the 2nd chance tests helpedALOT!

StronglyAgree

I never thought having a second chance test could be such an effective learning tool. A lot of thetime I take a little longer than my peers to fully grasp the mathematic concepts that I'm taught, and everytime that I felt the I did not fully understand the material by the date of the first test Ialways understood the material by the date of the 2nd Chance Test. This is a revolutionaryteaching concept that I think should be implemented in every academic class the way that youhave utilized the concept in Algebra I.

DisagreeI used practice problems and formative assesments as study guides, and the first chance testwas considered a test to me. Second chance tests were good because we could really make surewe learned the material instead of just memorizing it and forgetting it a couple months later.

Disagree

I always tried my best on the first chance test, carefully working through the problems, becausenext year I know that there will be no re-dos. I didn't study much at all for either test though, because the classwork and homework was so relevant and effective. The thought that I had asecond chance could have been a reason that I didn't study much, but I think it was more of knowing the material.

StronglyAgree

During the first semester, I got all A's on my first chance tests so I never used them to study for my second chance test. But as the second semester came along, I started to feel more and morealone and discouraged in math and really wasn't motivated to learn the material. I just would takethe test and what I didn't understand I tried to memorize steps for instead of really learning it.This semester made me strongly dislike math and simply feel like a moron during class becausemy table mates caught on to everything we were taught and I sat there still wondering the firststep to the problem.

Disagree I believe that I took the test as a test. Not as a assesment because that's what the assesmentswere for.

Disagree

I'm not sure. The grade on the first chance test is the real grade, to test what I know and how Iused my time during the unit. The second chance test doesn't really count as a GRADE, but ithelps me understand what I missed on the first chance test and help prepare for the next unit, especially when the concepts build on top of each other. I would say that the second chance testis more of a study guide.

StronglyAgree

I studied the same amount for all the tests i took. The first chance test was a great idea too, because i think the whole point of school is to learn in the best way possible. I think that if wehadn't have had second chances then some of the material i learned this year i wouldn'tremember now simply because I like the idea that If you know it and study and do well on the firstchance, its all good, and if you don't do well, the whole class doesnt move on without you andyou get a second chance to learn. Its a great sensible idea.

StronglyAgree

Disagree i know its a test BUT, it did help me with the 2nd chance by looking at what i got wrong

StronglyDisagree

I studied for it like the big test because I would just have to do similar problems again on thesecond chance test. It's better to just get the problems right the first time instead of having to doa lot of problems a second or even third time. The second chance tests did help me learn thematerial better because I was able to learn from my mistakes.

Agree I didn't always prepare as hard as I should have since there was a second chance oppurtunity.StronglyAgree

I definitely used my first chance tests to use as a study guide for the secnd chance tests. I reallyenjoyed the privilege to leqarn from my mistakes and correct my errors.

Disagree I studied for the first chance test as a normal chance and tried to do my best on it, but having the

second was a great way to learn the material. It made it stick in my head.

DisagreeI took the first test seriously because they are a test and it's better to learn all the material the firsttime but the 2nd test was more as like a way to make up for those couple things you still needed alittle work on

StronglyAgree

The 1st and 2nd chanche tes really helped me. It wasn't because you would get a better grade onthe secondd one but, it was because you woud completley understand the subject and not justmemorize for the test then forget it all.

Disagreei dont like taking the second chance tests because i think they are unnessesary if you study for the first which i do because i find that to be the easyest way. however if there is something on thetest that i cant figure out or i make a lot of mistakes then the second chance is great.

Disagree That is mainly what I used formative assesments for.

Disagree I think that sometimes when I had a lot of work to do the night before a test, i would just use thefirst test as a "practice test." But sometimes i would truthfully study for the first test.

StronglyAgree The first chance tests with the corrections and the problems let me have an idea of what i missedand how i can improve my next answer

Agree A lot of the time i would do really bad on the first chance test because i like wouldnt really studybut when the second chance came i would use my first chance as a guide and study from it

StronglyAgree It helps to slow down on the 2nd chance test.

Disagree I studied for the 1st chance tests and took them as an actual test.StronglyAgree

I always used the first chance test as study guide. It was great to use my mistakes as practiceproblems.

StronglyAgree

The first chance tests worked as a great study guide because if you did your corrections right, then you had a couple ways to help you out

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgree I always did beter on my 2nd chance

StronglyAgree I think second-chance tests are great. We dont just get a grade, we actually learn!

Agree Most of the times I did really good on the 2nd chance tests but sometimes I just didn't understandthe material at all so I couldn't show the knowledge that I didn't have.

Strongly

AgreeThe second chance test really helped me learn and really master the concepts I need to focus on.

StronglyAgree

Sometimes a bad test grade can only be because of a late night, or not enough time. This way Ican show what I really know, instead of showing you what I know after five hours of sleep thatpast night.

StronglyAgree

I have a bad habit of making simple mistakes like multiplying instead of adding or forgetting anegative symbol so this way it actually tests my knowledge for what I know, not being hinderedfor small errors that don't relflect what I've learned

StronglyAgree The 2nd chance test showed me if I had learned what I had messed up on.

StronglyAgree

Yes!!!!!! This really helps me! it keeps the materials in my mind and like I said before, this keepsthe knoweledge running throgh my mind so I know it for longer!

StronglyAgree

It did because the point of class is to really learn material and not just memorize. The 2nd chancetest allowed me to show that.

StronglyAgree

There is no greater "study guide" than the 1st chance test; every teacher should follow suit andgive 2nd chance tests.

StronglyAgree

After I took a first chance test, if I still didn't know something, I would really learn it for the secondchance tests. If I got it wrong again, I knew that I needed to study that more.

StronglyAgree I could correct myself on errors that I know I shouldn't have made.

StronglyAgree

The only reason I still was motivated to learn the material in math was thanks to the SecondChance Test. Knowing that you have another chance to show what you know really helped mesucceed better as a math student because you shouldn't never get another chance just becauseyou made a mistake that you've now learned from. I strongly encourage Second Chance Tests tokeep being used.

DisagreeI believe the second chance test allowed me to correct the mistakes I made on the first chancetest. the first chance test allowed me to demonstate my knowledge and abilities even when Imade simple mistakes.

StronglyAgree

I can't stand it when I miss tons of problems because I drop a negative or something stupid likethat. Normally I don't even formally study for the second chance test, because I alreadyunderstand the concept and reworked the problems I got wrong. The second chance test hastaught me to be more careful, as well. At the beginning of the year I would get around 25% of the(1st chance) questions wrong due to simple mistakes. This last test, that number went down toONE QUESTION, and it wasn't something really rediculous like multiplying wrong, I just solved for the wrong side of the triangle, but I got the length of that side right, so I totally understood theconcept.

StronglyAgree

i think i answered this on the last question:) but yes I think it was one of the most helpful things. itsaid " wait, I do know the information, I finally get it, now let me prove it to you."

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgree

StronglyAgree

I think that the second chance tests helped me solidify my understanding of the material. I thinkthat it also bumped up my test grades. I was able to learn from my mistakes by correcting mymistakes on the first chance tests and then using the second chance tests as a final check.

StronglyAgree I was able to become better at the material we learned, and it improved my grade.

StronglyAgree

I could really prove what I was capable of doing on the second chance tests after using the firstchance tests as study guides. I did very well on them.

StronglyAgree It was very helpful to show what I actually know.

Strongly I really liked having the 2nd chance because then we could really show how much we know and

Agree learned and how much we could improve with just a little extra workStronglyAgree same as question 5 comment

Disagree i do think that the second chance is a good thing but to study all you have to do is study the kindof problem that you missed which is not hard if you only missed a couple of problems.

StronglyAgree

Strongly

Agree

If I did not have the ability to do second chance tests this year my grade would have been verymediocre, I think that the second chance tests are a good way to make a student feel good about

their learning. Say if they do bad on the first test, and they do good on the second chance testthey would feel good about their learning in that portion of the unit.StronglyAgree

With the first chance test i feel like i can do better then with the second chance test you cant goanywhere but up so it helps alot that i have the chance to have a second chance test.

StronglyAgree

It helped me show that i know the work and show that even though i got it wrong the first timedoesnt mean i dont know it it could be a simple mistake

StronglyAgree It help me show that I knew the material, and that I just made simple mistakes.

DisagreeI think that the 2nd chance tests allow for lots of study time and that all the students have learnedto do is look at the problem and learn how to do that type of problem instead of actually testingtheir knowledge. I think 2nd chance tests for some people, but i didn't need them.

StronglyAgree

I LOVED the second chance test. It was great to not have the usual thing where we take a testthen move on and I never learn from my mistakes in that unit. I love how we take our time on each

unit and don't leave any student behind. Second chance tests have helped me a lot.StronglyAgree

Sometimes I just make careless errors on the first chance, Im not sure why but the 2nd chancelets me prove that I understand the material and am not just blowing it off

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgreeStronglyAgree The formative assesments are most helpful.

Agree I can tell now what is more important than other problems.StronglyAgree

I learned way more this year in math then ever before and this year I actually understand theconcepts and it all makes sense to me and I am extremely pleased with my learning.

StronglyAgree FORMATIVE ASSESMENTS!

StronglyAgree

the leveling so helped in letting me focus on what I need to improve on/ learn and what I shouldremember or just not forget over the summer

StronglyAgree This course has showed me how to identify what I need help on.

StronglyAgree

The formative assessments really helped me with this! I knew what to do and how to work on it.These also gave me practice problems to work on and use for practice for the test.

Agree The formative assessments helped a lot with this.

Agree I think that dividing the mathematic concepts to the extent we did was a litte extreem so yes it didbut it would help to narrow the concepts down more.

StronglyAgree

I have learned that I have my strong points in graphing linear equations, subsitution/elimination,and systems of equations. I have also learned that I need to put moreo effort into really learning a

lot of second semester material.StronglyAgree

Disagree This questions honestly doesn't have an answer because during this semester I felt sodiscouraged and alone in math that I put very little effort.

StronglyAgree

I learnedthat I need to show more effort on making less mistakes and showing more effort periodso yes I strongly agree.

Agree Sort of. I realized that I'm not just dumb at math, I just need to be careful and make sure my headdoesn't get ahead of my pencil.

StronglyAgree

I think having the leveled assessments helped me see what I needed to work on more, and when iwas at like, level four, I was insanely proud of myself. I dont think ive ever put so much effort intolearning before this class and the leveled assessments, and i've honestly never been this excitedand self confident about knowing material. It made me happy to be able to say, "i can do this really

well because i understand." And i really dont get all too excited about school much, until this classthis year.AgreeNo Opinion not sure what this question means

Agree because of the leveled/sectioned formative assesments i could easily see where I needed to work.[ex: level 3 substitution]

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgree

I now know where to put my most effort, and have a better understanding of mathematic subjectsnow.

StronglyAgree

During the year I was able to tell if I was behind or right on track. If I didn't understand somethingone of my peers would explain it to me. That happened rarely because Mrs. Gough did a great jobexplaining to the class the work.

StronglyAgree

With the formative assesments it really highlighted what I didn't know so I knew exactly what Ineeded to study

StronglyAgree

Mrs. Gough really helped me improve from my struggle in math, I am now confident in my workand work hard in the class.

Agree i think that my strenghts and weaknesses were shown throughout the year.Agree

Agree I believe that Ms.Gough is very good at helping you assess your strenghts and weekneses. Ienjoyed this about her teaching.

StronglyAgree

I hope that my attention and strong belief that i can do really well in this class has been showing. Ihave really improved my listening and wanting to know what i have been doing wrong and right. Ienjoy knowing what i am good at and i love helping others that are confused

StronglyAgreeAgreeStronglyAgree Deep practice helps me make sure im showing all my work.

AgreeStronglyAgree I thinkt the formative and leveled assessments helped me know where I stood in the class.

No Opinion I can now judge my work, and the work of others based on formative assesments, and the

amount/ steps of work shownStronglyAgree

The 2nd chance let me see how I make simple mistakes and the levels let me see how I work, letting me grade myself proficiently and knowing what to grade

Agree I can judge how good my work is a little bit better but doesnt always help.StronglyAgree I learned how to really show my work, and how to apply things to day to day basics.

Agree what really helped was when you showed us what "level 4" work was and "level 3" work was andso on.

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgree

I can now look at a problem and see if I wrote enough before I actually did the problem, if it is neatand easy to understand, and that the way I got my answer is clearly shown.

Agree I can see that more work is better work.

AgreeAgree Seeing Ms. Gough standards for great work opened my eyes to what's good and low quality work.StronglyAgree I like how grading is leveled, so that I can look back on my work and say "that's a level 4 answer"

StronglyAgree

I remember once when you wern't here, I went to Mr. Caldwells room and i was doing a level threeproblem and i had gotten them right so i went on to level four, and i asked him a question about itand he said, " I cant't tell you, because then you will say that you are a level four, but you're notbecause i had to help you."and i said, " Mr.Caldwell, I don't care, I want to learn this, and i want to do it. I need help, and Iwant to be able to solve these in the future. " this is an example of me wanting to do more thenwhat was required for this course, and i was able to see that i can do this because they accept it,but for me i want to exceed those standards.

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgreeAgree I was able to see how far i'd come as well as my work and answers are now better formatted.StronglyAgree Throughout the year I became better at showing my work thoroughly in each problem.

StronglyAgree

I could really see the improvement in my work over the school year. I have really made stridessince last year, and hope to contain my advance forward.

StronglyAgree I was able to tell if I needed to do more work and how to set up my work neatly.

StronglyAgree

I knew when I hadn't fully grasped a lesson because the homework would become much harder which was kind of like a red light that said I needed to do better on this even if it meant showingmore work

StronglyAgree

She has taught me how to show good work and easy tips to get the answers to almost everymaterial.

No Opinion i dont know what this meansStronglyAgreeDisagree

StronglyAgree

Like I just said, I have been trying really hard to improve everything that i do in this class to makenot only myself proud but my teacher and family. I am so glad that I have taken this classseriously because in the end it was fun and I feel like i am prepared for high school.

Agree I could tell when my work was bad because sometimes on my test you would put like a questionmark

StronglyAgree

This course has made me love math! I used to not be interested, I thought I was bad at it, but nowI love it

AgreeStronglyAgree Everything we do differently in this class than I have done before has helped me.

No OpinionStronglyAgree I am way more confident this year then in previous years.

No Opinion yes, I really enjoy SOME parts of algebra, because of the variety of ways we learn in this course

StronglyAgree

I thought it woulld be a B class for me but I did a hundred times better than I thought, Iunderstand more than I gave myself credit for

Agree I learned that I can do algebra pretty easily.StronglyAgree

I thought that Algebra was going to be way harder than it ended up being for me. I think this year was my best year in math so far. I really tried and learned the material I loved this year.

Agree I didn't think i had done that much alegbra before now, but now i do! It's in a lot of things and i'mpretty good at it.

StronglyAgree

I gained a lot of confidence in my math skills in this class, I just need a little time and personalizedteaching and then I can grasp the concept.

StronglyAgree

I used to really hate math because I thought I was bad at it, but this year I've started to really likemath. If I don't get something right away (right triangle trig), then after I work at it for a while, itbecomes easier. Although I am still not perfect at math and I still make mistakes, I feel confidentthat I can teach someone else if they ever need it.

No Opinion

StronglyDisagree

I don't think that I'm good at algebra not because of my intelligence, but because I have nomotivation to try in this class. Everyday I sit in math waiting for the bell to ring because I knowthat for one hour I will be sitting in a class where everyone understands the material and getsgood grades except for me. I don't know anyone who would look forward to going somewherewhere they feel like the dumbest person in the class.

No Opinion I think the changes I made to how to solve problems helped but the thought of my skills at algebrahaven't gone down nor up.

StronglyAgree I actually like and am good at math, something I swore I would never say.

StronglyAgree

I strongly agree. I have never been excited about math, but this year it was my favorite class. I likebeing smart and solving things. I have knowledge that will help me solve other problems in thesimplest way possible. You taught me in a way that made since. Why take the long way withproblems when there is a shortcut or an easier way? you made me think and i really appreciatethe work that you did for us so that we could learn. I never would have expected that i would likemath so much, and I know you put alot of effort into every single one of your students so thatthey might feel the same way as i do now. I am so grateful that i had you as a teacher. Thank youfor teaching me how to think critically and love math

StronglyAgreeStronglyAgree

people and tv give the impression that algebra is a pain in the glueteus maximus but once you doit, its really all just problem solving and using your brain

Agree I did not know i could maintain such a good average in mathAgree If I put my mind to studying, I think that I am very good at math in generalStronglyAgree

I thought that Algebra would be extremely hard, but after learning it in the fashion we did thisyear, I find it much easier and more useful in everyday life.

StronglyAgree I did alot better in algebra than I thought I would.

StronglyAgree

I have always thought in Junior High that I was a terrible math student and was just stupid in thisclass but this year I feel like I actually learned and understood what was being taught which mademe feel great

StronglyAgree Extremely Agree

Agree i have improved from last year.Agree I was always thought that I was good at algebra, but I can be extremely good when I actually try.

StronglyAgree

This year was most definitely my best year in math by far. The past few years I was not a strong

Additional Comments: Please tell me anything else that you want me to know aboutour course and your learning.

I loved being taught by you, your teaching methods fit for me and the tests and formative assessments helpedme alot.I think that deep practice, formative assesments, and second chance tests really help me learn instead of justgetting a grade. Also, when we have modivation (like the cookie contest) it helps us work harder. Thank you

helping us learn this year!I enjoyed this class most of the time, but sometimes I wish there were more quizzes but I guess the formativeassessment is the same thing. It would help the teacher see if certain students are on track instead of telling theteacher straight up that I need help, and coming from a student's perspective I know that most kids won't dothat.Thank you for a great year! I really enjoyed learning all of the concepts that we did and you really helped me seemy potential in math this year.I really enjoyed this year on algebra 1!

thanks, LCKeep the 2nd chance test and the levels and the way you do home work. but, to help eliminate slackers you canhave a home work check once a week at the end of all the home work done so far or do it with out telling thestudents to see whose actually working. Also, for the 2nd chance tests, well, have some only one chance? But

that takes away for the kids that actually study so, you may just have to talk to the other teachers about that oneThis has been a great year and I have learned so much in this class. This class has taught me so much morethan I expected. Thank you. This year was great!!! I loved it!it might be good to before we get grades give the students something like a grade report or something so Theyno where there grade came from. sometimes i would be confused how my avg was so low because we didn'thave that many grades. We would have like a quiz and my test. I knew we had homework every night but youweren't grading them so that couldn't be the problem. Then we had formative assessments but most of themweren't graded. I guess the tests weighed a lot in class! I really enjoyed this year in math and I think I learnedalot. I also grew with the concept of really learning instead of mermorizing for a grade. :)

You are BY FAR the best teacher I have ever had. Thanks for a great year.I loved the table and group work. I am more of an independent learner and worker, so when we just worked onpackets instead of taking notes the whole time, I learned a lot more. I enjoyed the note taking, though, because

it wasn't as boring as last year. Thank you for the best year I've ever had in math!Mrs. Gough,This has been the most productive math class I have ever been in. Your teaching styles are genius and

perfectly suited to my OCD learning styles. Thank You so much for an amazing year, and I hope you enjoyedhaving me as much as I enjoyed having you.

Sincerely,ML

During the first semester, I enjoyed coming to class and having you as a teacher. You encouraged me and Icould tell that you were proud of my work. When I returned for the second semester, all of that went away. Itseemed as though everything was good if you understood the material, but if you didn't thats to bad your onyour own. I tried to come to office hours for help, but it was useless because I sat down to work, and then youleft for the next thirty minutes so I decided not to come back to office hours. Unit after unit, my grade in mathkept slipping, and honestly I decided to just give up. Since that point I dreaded coming to class, and when I

didn't understand something I just let it go because I didn't care about my grade, and it didn't seem like you dideither. I will go into highschool with a fresh start in math next year, but the stuff I didn't learn this semester willalways return there and I know it. The fact that my math experience wasn't a good one doesn't affect what I thinkof you in any way. I enjoyed having you as my math and homeroom teacher and your way of teaching during thefirst semester really encouraged me and taught me things I will always use. Thankyou for everything you taughtme. It was a great course and Ms. Gough will always be a favorite teacher of mine.

I have learned alot this year and really grew in algebra. Ms Gough is a great teacher/ algebra coachi learned a lot from this course and i feel like since i did pretty good this year, ill be off to a great start in high

school

I think that the course was very helpful this year, and the second chance test allowed me to become morefamiliar with each unit we worked on.I really felt that I could progress my math skills this year, and feel that I have made up for what I had lost bycoming to Westminster late and from a school where math is not prioritized.I had alot of fun. Thank you for all the effort you put into our class.U had a great algebra year and whatever your style of teaching is I really like it because it works. :)Mrs. Gough has been probobly the hardest working, most organized, helpful teacher i've had at westminster. The only struggle I had with her was she wasn't there for many test. Besides that she really helped me grow as amath student.

I enjoyed our class overall this year. The formative assesments were a good idea, but if I think that, if possible, you should try to give an incentive for people to try a little harder on the first chance tests. This wasy peoplewon't just rely on the second chance.

Everything that we did this year was so helpful. I really enjoyed this class year and what we learned. Wordscannot describe how much you have helped me. I now try to approach all my other classes like I have twordsmath. You have been such a great helper and encourager and I can tell that you really wanted me to do my best. This year has been so fun and not once did I consider that I would ever be "good at math" The second chancetests really proved how much I know and I am so happy that I had you as my teacher. Thank you so much for everything that you have done.I really enjoyed having you as a teacher and I really enjoyed having second chance testI enjoy this class but it would be fun to have more hands on experience.thanks Mrs. Gough! :)Our class was a tough one to teach. I want to tell you how grateful I am to have a wonderful teacher like you thatcan handle the stress of having so many loud boys in a classroom of five shy girls. I also want you to know thatI enjoyed getting taught by you and understand why you sometimes couldn't handle us anymore. Thanks somuch!!I think she is a great teacher and really truly wants her students to succeed
