Job Title: Veterinary Nurse Clinical Educator/ Senior Emergency and Critical Care RVN Job ref no: CSS-0154-13 Grade: 5 Department: Clinical Science and Services Accountable to: Head ECC RVN/Professor of Veterinary Nursing Responsible for: Emergency and Critical Care Clinical Support Team Job summary: To contribute to the delivery and assessment of the RVC’s portfolio of Veterinary Nursing Programmes (20%). To join a team of Emergency and Critical Care RVNs working within a multidisciplinary referral hospital (80%). To assist the Head Emergency and Critical Care RVN with the management and day to day running of all aspects of activity within the ECC Clinical support team. To assist the Head ECC RVN with the management of the ECC Clinical support team. Provide supervision and guidance for ECC team members and students during all shifts including day, nights and weekends in the ECC area of the QMHA. Provide excellent nursing care for all in patients in the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals. Instruct and supervise veterinary students and student nurses performing clinical and nursing tasks. Ensure all activities within the ECC areas comply with relevant legislation and college procedural requirements. Assist clinicians with procedures undertaken within the relevant specialisation. Competency: Teaching and Learning Support Key tasks: Contribute to the delivery and assessment of the RVC’s portfolio of veterinary nursing programmes (including FdSc, BSc, Graduate Diploma). Give practical support to veterinary and veterinary nursing students as requested to ensure students gain relevant experience from their rotation in the QMHA. Ensure the area worked supports a positive learning experience for all students in the QMHA. Provide feedback on SVN reflective blogs. Design and deliver theory and practical teaching to the RVC’s veterinary nursing students. Design and deliver assessment activities associated with theoretical and practical elements of the Veterinary Nursing courses. Act as a Deputy Module Leader as required. Be a clinical tutor and support veterinary nursing undergraduates during their time on the course. Competency: Communication Key tasks: Effectively communicate with clinical colleagues, the veterinary nursing school team members and students using a range of methods. Demonstrate a high level of inter-personal skills when engaging with other individuals in the RVC or

Competency:Service deliveryKey tasks:Provide the highest standard of nursing care for all patients in the QMHA on a Rota basis, working various shifts as required, including weekend and night shifts.Maintain the highest standards of infection control in all areas of the QMHA.React appropriately to requests for advice or information.Be responsible and accountable for all drug preparation, administration and allocation in area worked.Carry out all necessary regular checks on clinical equipment and report any faults/repairs immediately to line manager.Attend and contribute to patient round meetings to ensure a full understanding of care required and to liaise with clinicians on patient status.Ensure all stock levels of consumables are appropriately maintained.Flexibility: to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above.
