WEEKLY HOLY HOUR WITH EUCHARISTIC EXPOSITION

AND ADORATION THURSDAYS AT 7:00 PM

LOWER CHURCH

The hour includes the recitation of the Holy Rosary and concludes with Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament. Confessions will be heard beginning at 7:00 PM in the Chapel for as long as there are confessions to be heard. REMINDER: The lower chapel is open every day from 9AM to 7 PM for people to pray, light a candle, etc. Making a visit is an excellent opportunity to pray for an end to the COVID19 pandemic.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (in Latin, Corpus Christi). In this celebration we recall the primary sacrament which Jesus himself entrusted to his Church and com-manded that it be celebrated in memory of his saving passion and death on the Cross. We learn from the Cate-chism that “the Eucharist is ‘the source and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spir-itual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch” (CCC 1324). Every time the Mass is celebrated the real presence and saving work of Christ comes to us and is received by us in Holy Communion. He is the nourish-ment of our souls and fills us with his grace so that we can grow in virtue and holiness.

For our ongoing sanctification and the enhance-

ment of our personal relationship with Jesus, “the Catho-lic Church has always offered and still offers to the sacra-ment of the Eucharist the cult of adoration, not only dur-ing Mass, but also outside of it, reserving the consecrated hosts with the utmost care, exposing them to the solemn veneration of the faithful, and carrying them in proces-sion” (CCC 1378).

The lower chapel of our parish is open every day

so that anyone may encounter Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. As a parish, we have a weekly time of Eucharistic Adoration every Thursday evening from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. During this Holy Hour we have the op-portunity to dwell in the Eucharistic Presence of the Lord in silent prayer. He is present and waits for us to come to him. All parishioners – in fact, everyone – is invited to come and spend this time with the Lord. His Presence and our worship of him will bring renewal to lives and to our parish. His blessings are available in abundance. We have only to come and receive them.

Mass Intentions Online

For centuries, the Catholic faithful have expressed care, support and sympathy by requesting the celebration of Holy Mass for a particular intention, whether it be in suffrage for the dead; in intercession for the sick, another person or another need; or in thanksgiving for graces received. Such requests for Masses at St. Patrick's can be made in person at the parish office during regular office hours; or now online. Click “Mass Intentions” in the menu bar of the parish website.

P ’ M ₍ ’ ₎ The first weekend of the parish reopening went

well. The Masses were not over-crowded and there is plenty of room for those who feel ready to return. There is a simplicity in our liturgical celebration that allows for a contemplative and mystical experience of worship. Vol-unteers clean and sanitize the high-touch surfaces after every Mass in preparation for the next Mass.

All are asked to pray and work for healing and

peace in our city, country, and world. The sin of racism must be eradicated, wounds need healing, and reconcilia-tion will lead to peace. The issues are complex, but God’s grace is more powerful than evil. Our receptivity to his grace will lead to whatever needs to change in our minds and hearts; and make us instruments of his love and peace. The prayer of St. Francis of Assisi is published in this bulletin. Please consider making it a part of your dai-ly prayers.

Let us love one another and pray for each other, Fr. George, O.P.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU St. Patrick Church will follow the guidelines from the CDC for sanitation as we resume public Masses.

•We will follow a weekly schedule of cleaning and disinfecting before every weekend.

•We will clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces af-ter every Mass. It involves cleaning and disin-fecting high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, door handles, and the top rail of the pews.

The effort takes 15-20 minutes depending upon the num-ber of volunteers. Volunteers should contact the parish office either by phone or email and provide your name, contact information and the Mass time for which you are available.

O W O H In November 2018 the Catholic bishops of the United States released a Pastoral Le er Against Racism called, Open Wide Our Hearts. The le er is a powerful invitation for all the people of God to “face courageously the vice of racism, . . . reach out generously to the victims of this evil, to assist the conversion needed in those who still harbor racism, and to begin to change policies and structures that allow racism to persist.” At usccb.org/racism, you can read the entire le er, get new resources and find ideas for how we can respond. Peace Prayer of Saint Francis Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

L N N B The local council of the Knights of Columbus is support-ing the outreach and response efforts of the parish as people come to the rectory door for assistance. “Leave No Neighbor Behind” addresses the immediate and prac-tical needs of those in distress. The local council mem-bers – some of whom are parishioners at St. Patrick – have allocated $400 worth of gift cards to the local 7-11 store, where persons in distress can purchase food, bev-erage, and personal essentials. On behalf of the parish, I express my gratitude to the knights for their generosity and enabling the parish to respond in a small yet mean-ingful way to the needs of others. Faith in action is hap-pening in the Knights of Columbus and at St. Patrick Church. As Jesus said, “insofar as you did it to the least one of these, you did it unto me.”

Thank you to all those who continue to support the par-ish during these difficult and uncertain times. Whether it be through your use of Church envelopes, Parish Giving or Venmo, your contributions show your dedication and willingness to be a part of the ongoing mission of the parish. God bless you for your generosity.

To sanctify your day and to keep walking in the liturgi-cal rhythm of the Church, we are honored to make our online version of Magnificat temporarily available to everyone for free. To access the Magnificat, please vis-it www.magnificat.com/free.

The Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (CMSWR) will host a Eucharistic Congress at the Ca-thedral Basilica this coming October 9-10, 2020. The theme is “Jesus in the Eucharist, increase our faith!” All are welcome. A Eucharistic Congress brings the clergy and faithful together to express in a public way the deepest profession of faith in the Mystery of the Most Holy Eucharist. This Eucharistic Congress prom-ises to be a great blessing for all of us in the Archdio-cese.
