Page 20: Join Europe’s largestinternational portal to discuss ... · An opportunity to grow your network, boost your visibility, influence markets. and stakeholders, exchange your expertise

T3.2 – Main observations

• Representative listing of what can be found on the market.

• Remarks for Construction platforms:

• “Collaborative platforms” offer a vast array of use cases & services, under many different forms

• If not directly integrated in the platform/tool, still often possible to access services through APIs

• Use of many formats, extensions, linked services, standards, etc. across software

• Major issues for all sectors for the development of a large scale digital platform:

• lack of standardisation

• low interoperability of software & services

• Some services/features not properly answered (e.g. Machine Learning, PLM, Requirements for Documentation) -> could take example from other more “advanced” sectors (e.g. Aerospace)

• Preliminary agreement on the definition of a digital platform - at least in the context of DigiPLACE:

Operating system that enables to plug-in services and to give access to data, with the possibility to connect to other platforms, tools or applications via APIs.

Further development of IFC standard could be an answer.

Page 24: Join Europe’s largestinternational portal to discuss ... · An opportunity to grow your network, boost your visibility, influence markets. and stakeholders, exchange your expertise

T3.3 – Main remarks on the comparison between sectors

• Many industries share a common context (SF added-value not limited to Construction):

• need for more cross-boarders/sectors cooperation

• increasing amount and complexity of the data to deal with

• need to comply with new regulations

• need to standardise practices and formats, e.g. to facilitate cooperation projects

• impetus for digitalisation - all adopted or tend to adopt international standard formats & APIs

• Major differences in the comprehension of the purpose & characteristics of platforms:

• Interconnected platforms (+ important role for public authorities at regional/national level)

-> More adapted to fragmented sectors – e.g. construction, agriculture

-> Not for markets dominated by fewer & bigger service providers – e.g. Aerospace, Automotive

• DigiPLACE’s RAF concept: does not seem to be existing in other industrial sectors

-> A structure fulfilling the 20 SF would help the Construction sector to catch up on digitalisation + to become more attractive

T3.3 – R&D orientations and next steps

• For the future development of an EU digital platform concept, T3.3 has exposed a certain number of:

• Challenges

• Open questions

• Possible ways of implementation

• A list of R&D orientations for each Success Factor has been made.

From there and from the other WP3 inputs:

• WP5 & WP6 → further analyses, compare potential ways of implementation, etc., and ultimately to provide final answers through the development of the DigiPLACE RAF and Roadmap.

The vision of the digital transformation of european construction industry, expressed as key use cases, to help achieve core objectives (egclimate change, resource use, health, productivity, competitiveness…)

27

Understanding DigiPLACE main ‘technical’ output (RAF) (2/2)

Overall objectiveA (European) reference architecture framework (RAF) to support the vision of a digital transformation of the European construction industry and all stakeholders for the progressive generalization of digital platforms, data spaces, apps and services (including public ones).

The principle of commonly agreed minimal, but sufficient interoperability levels (data-level, software level), and data privacy/security

The use of common standards, forming a baseline for the current state-of-the-art of existing solutions as well as a technical commitment to identify needs and required evolution of those standards

A generalised access to data spaces, infrastructures (and their components) and (catalogues of) services available to all – and in particular technical aspects related to public services, including procurement and public contracts, as well as identified future generic digital services (Building permits, digital Building Logbooks, etc.)

RAF = a delimited, deployable, evolving set of

specifications and development/deployment guidance fundamentally relying on the following

principles:

15/09/2020

A referential of tools and services to bedevelopped/generalized to support key

use cases

Special focus on required public services and regulations, both at EU

and MS levels

Page 31: Join Europe’s largestinternational portal to discuss ... · An opportunity to grow your network, boost your visibility, influence markets. and stakeholders, exchange your expertise

DigiPLACE RAF - Collaborative work to identify key use cases

• 5 working groups on 5 main areas

• Not disconnected issues, but rather different viewpoints to address all the issues, with expected overlap

- 9 use cases

Data and knowledge sharing- 6 topics (data sharing, open data, sharing of best practices

& innovation patterns, integration of LEVEL(s), …)- 7 use cases

Environmental performance- 3 topics (environmental regulations, sharing of

environmental related data, LCA)- 3 use cases

Business, market and collaboration

- 5 topics (access to BIM, other services & marketplace, collaborative platforms, digital supply chain, …)

- 11 use cases

30

A (DigiPLACE) strategy roadmap for future achievements

Overall objectiveDefine a Strategy Roadmap to support the stakeholders for the progressive implementation(s) of the Reference Architecture Framework and applications

Nurture the establishment of a common market of digital platforms and apps – supporting:→ the FAIR Data Principles as a set of guiding principles in order to make data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (Wilkinson et al., 2016), allowing data producers and data publishers to promote maximum use of data and information, still ensuring various degrees of data ownership and privacy

→ the interconnection among (European, National, local) data spaces and platforms, to establish a pan-European network of (potentially certified) data spaces and related services.

Create a sample European set of experimental projects and facilities implementing and assessing the RAF set of specifications and development/deployment guidance, relying on a representative set of business scenarios, data spaces, and applications/services

Develop awareness, expertise and skills related to platform and services deployment, integration, and use, both for users of digital platforms, tools and services and for Third-party software/service developers and vendors – e.g. through Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs)

ROADMAP = a set of delimited, measurable and time-stamped actions (with

associated instruments) supporting a generalised deployment and use of RAF-compliant digital

platforms by 2027

A common repository for all relevant building data, information and documents

It facilitates transparency, trust, informed decision making and information sharing within the construction sector, among building owners and occupants, financial institutions and public authorities.

A dynamic tool that serves as a record of major events and changes over a building’s lifecycle, such as change of ownership, tenure or use, maintenance, refurbishment and other interventions.

Digital Building Logbook:

A safe instrument enabling stakeholders to retain control of their data and who has access to it, recognising that some of this data may need to be held confidentially. Data may be stored within the logbook and/or hosted in a different location to which the logbook acts as a gateway.
