These years have been very fulfilling to me and have given me an avenue to continue to learn about this wonderful hobby of growing roses. When I started digging in the dirt years ago trying to grow pretty roses, I never knew what a great joy it would bring to my life. I not only have learned how to grow good roses, but also have met some of the best rose growers in this state. You have been wonderful teachers, good guides and a great source of inspiration to me to improve and look for opportunities to teach others. Just this week, two Bright House cable workers were in our neighborhood working on the lines near our house and they stopped in our yard and asked to see the roses and told me they wanted to know how to grow roses. James came in to get me and I spent several minutes with them talking about roses, where to buy them, and all the fundamental things to get them started. I hope they will get a rose and learn to love them as I do. My thanks to all of you who served as officers and directors with me, and I know you were a big part of any success we had. I know it has been fun for me and I hope it has been for you. We want to continue by helping Frank as he begins this new year, and I know it will be a good year for the Birmingham Rose Society. Thanks again and happy gardening as we continue to “dig in the dirt.” Gloria Purnell, Past President ROSES IN REVIEW 2010 Deep South District Dear Society Representative, The time has come for Roses In Review, 2010.
