The Tattler……….. Most mornings I follow the outline of Daily Prayer prescribed

by our Book of Common Worship. Having a familiar structure

for the start of my day helps check the inevitable chaos and

unpredictability that often come my way. Yes, I honor a fairly typical routine but, alas,

life in general and ministry in particular can get quite messy. And, even though I

maintain a calendar, what a ministry mentor calls “the pressure of present demand” tends

to rule my waking hours. My Daily Prayer app offers an oasis of order and some

semblance of perspective amidst our increasingly manic world and my own constantly

shifting priorities.

The vital place of Daily Prayer hit home for me while I drove to work one day and

overheard a National Public Radio appeal based on the question: “Who owns your

morning?” Against a backdrop of revving engines, ringing phones, and tapping

computer keyboards, the posing of that personal query presumed a “take charge”

approach to the current of events into which most of us plunge ourselves. I took the

NPR promotion to mean, “Just tune into “Morning Edition” and you can harness an

otherwise “out of control” world and increasingly complicated life.

A better “take away” from my musing about the matter of who owns my morning

arises when I read the opening of the Daily Prayer guide. The words I recite every day

give me pause: “O Lord, open my lips. And my mouth shall proclaim your praise.”

What difference would it make, I wonder, if the Lord owned my morning and initiated

the words that issued from my mouth? Someone has proposed the profound distinction

between the greeting, “Good morning, Lord!” and “Good Lord, morning!” One suggests

an “ah!” the other an “ugh!”

As added incentive to this shift of allegiance, the introduction to the daily “Prayers of

Thanksgiving and Intercession” defers to God’s ordering of the day: “Satisfy us with

your love in the morning, and we will live this day in joy and praise!” Imagine

beginning your day with a sense of satisfaction for what “is” instead of concern over all

that has yet to be done! Could we cultivate what someone has called, “the profound

satisfaction of now?” Savoring the aroma of a hot cup of coffee or tea? Lingering at the

breakfast table for a few moments of conversation before bolting out the door? Looking

over the headlines and letting them shape your prayers for the day ahead? Or, as my

dear friend Father Bob does first thing every morning, proclaiming with great gusto,

“Praise the LORD!” And he doesn’t even consider himself a morning person! As a

“night owl,” though, he’s wise enough to remember and rejoice that God forever remains

the morning person!

The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy never cease, fresh as the morning

and sure as the sunrise. Lamentations 3:22-23

----Pastor George

Thank you Rockledge Presbyterian for the wonderful reception and farewell gift. I have been blessed to get to know you throughout these past two years of working in the church office and I deeply appreciate all who have shared their time and talents volunteering in various ways in the office. It truly has been a team ministry. God's blessings on you as you continue your ministry in the Rockledge community. If you are ever in the Land O' Lakes area, please come visit us at First United Methodist Church, Land O' Lakes.

- Debbie Corbin

------------------------------------------- The Milsap and Higgins families wish to express our thanks for the strong and heartening support by

our church family here at RPC during the difficult times of June’s illness and final days. Your visits,

notes and the many cards expressing your concerns, your encouragement, and your prayers for her

meant so much to June, and to us. The outpouring of affection and support we received at the reception

following the service celebrating June’s life, as we surrounded the lovingly prepared and beautifully

presented food, confirmed our warm appreciation for our RPC family.

Thank you all.

- Tom Milsap, Mark & Sandy Milsap and Family, and Pam & RP Higgins and Family

-------------------------------------------------- Many thanks to all who opened their homes to the Dubuque University Choir Members. Your hospitality is greatly appreciated!

- Faye Bennett

---------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your support and love during my past health issues and for your continuing prayers and love as I struggle to

overcome my latest health issues. Knowing that you are there for me gives me the strength to get well.

Presbyterian Women

Calendar of Events

The circles do not meet for Bible Study in July and August* - not until September. However, we have an interesting study in which to look forward. The book is entitled "Come to the Waters". This material plays a central role in the stories of scripture, from the chaotic waters of creation to the River of Life in Revelation, where chaos is no more. Sometimes there is too much water (think Noah); sometimes there is too little water (think drought in the desert). In this study, we will explore some of the Bible's more than 800 references to water. We hope women of the church will join in this study. We have four circles from which you can choose -- ALL circles meet the THIRD week of the month: Abigail Circle meets on Monday evenings, Ruth Circle meets on Tuesday evenings, Esther Circle meets Wednesday mornings, and Mary Martha Circle meets on Friday mornings. We'd love to have BIG Circles!

All are welcome. For information, call Catherine Shelton, 321-631-7275. *Only Abigail Circle will meet during the summer months. It meets on the third Monday night of the month. The July 20th meeting will be at Liz Battista’s house at 6:30pm for dinner. Bring a dish to share.

Dottie and Bill Moehle had reasons to walk on air recently.

In Dottie’s own words:

“If attending one grandchild’s graduation is happiness, attending two is a

wonderment and a joy”. Daughter Debbie flew to Brevard and drove the

Moehles to Birmingham for several days of parties celebrating Beth and

Will who graduated from the University of Alabama. Both had received

awards and honors at the Awards Night Ceremonies.

Beth received her graduate degree as a Psychology Specialist with

a year of internship with the Atlanta Schools where she will continue to

live her passion to help children with reading difficulties.

Will graduated with a degree in business and finance; he will intern with a financial analyst this

summer before going to graduate school in the fall.

The Moehles’ week of joyful family celebrations continued as they visited Arrowhead Plantation

in Georgia where their oldest grandson, Matthew, took them on a grand tour of the 1,000 acre wooded

plantation which he manages. They saw turkeys, quail, ducks, lots of pine trees – “a perfect way to end

a wonderful week with the family.”

Margaret Ward is the proud recipient of the Principal’s Award at

McNair Magnet Middle School where Mrs. Rosette Brown is the principal.

Margaret will be a freshman at Rockledge High this fall, joining her

brother David.

Kim Smith celebrated her 50th birthday sailing to Alaska with her

mother, B.J. Smith, Catherine Shelton, and the Smiths’ relatives who live in Spokane, Washington.

Karen Craig enjoyed a visit from son Peter and her two granddaughters, Frida, 13, and Freya, 9,

recently. Peter, Susannah, and daughters live in Victoria, British Columbia.

Sharon Hollenback and daughter Shalerie spent time in the Chicago area recently where they

visited cousins, aunts and uncles.

“Feasting on the Word” continues to meet each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. for an hour in

the parlor. The lectionary Gospel passage is usually the focus of the discussion and it can get lively! Cheryl Carson makes a valiant attempt to keep the group on topic. All are welcome.

The Green thumbs have been adding new plants around the church. Take a stroll around the

church grounds and see if you can spot what is new.

Senior Connection

Visiting Vero!

This month’s Senior Connection event takes us out of Brevard County

for a full day of fun activities. At 8:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 11th,

the church bus will take us from our parking lot to beautiful Vero

Beach for a morning movie at the AMC Indian River 24, a theater

known for carrying current films, but also recent quality films that

most theaters no longer show. The schedule of morning movies for

that week is not yet available, but will be posted closer to the event. From this list, we should have two or three

movies to choose from.

Following the movie, we will motor to the famous Ocean Grill Restaurant on Vero Beach for lunch. Built

almost 70 years ago, this restaurant is known for its consistently fine food and its precarious perch over the

Atlantic Ocean. In 1941, it was built on a sand dune 200 yards from the rolling Atlantic. Owner Waldo Sexton

gave it its unique appearance inside and out by using pecky cypress, mahogany, wrought iron, and lavish

Spanish antiques. From 2011 to 2014, the restaurant received a yearly Certificate of Excellence from Trip

Advisor and in 2015 was honored by being placed in its Hall of Fame. Recently, Emeril Lagasse filmed a

segment for one of his recent shows at the Grill. For details about its colorful history, its menus, and a 360

degree picture of its unusual, beautiful interior, go to www.oceangrill.com for a preview.

After lunch, the group will enjoy shopping at a location of its choosing--possibly resort shops near the

restaurant or stores at the Vero Beach Outlet Mall near I-95. For those concerned about walking, trolleys are

available to assist shoppers in moving around the mall, and there is also an air-conditioned area for those who

want to rest. The return trip should have the group back to the church by late afternoon.

For those planning to attend, there will be a sign-up sheet on the Senior Connection bulletin board in the

South Hallway of the church. Sign up no later than Sunday, July 5th

and indicate on the sheet whether

you will be taking the church bus or your own car. Each person is responsible for the cost of his/her

movie and lunch. If you have questions, contact either Pat Baggott or Mary Ellen Weissinger.

them. On Communion Sundays, (the first

Sunday of the month), children will return

to their families during the Communion

hymn and participate with their families for

the remainder of the service.
