After graduating from Texas Tech with Food Science and Business degrees in 2005 and working in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I later completed a post- graduate Ranch Management program at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth. Greetings in Our Lord Jesus Christ! I am very happy to be named pastor of St Stephen’s Catholic Church. I grew up in Odessa, so I’m very much a local. I have served in the Diocese for the 14 years in various capacities. I began my priestly ministry here in Midland at St. Ann’s as a Parochial Vicar, then went to the Cathedral in San Angelo as Parochial Vicar. During these years I served as Vocation Director for the Diocese. Following my time in San Angelo, I was made pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ozona, Texas and then served as Interim Pastor of St. Joseph in San Angelo. From San Angelo, I was sent to study Canon Law at the Pontifical University of St. Paul in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

where I spent the three coldest winters of my life. When I returned to the Diocese of San Angelo I returned to the Vocations Office. Just last year I was made Pastor of St. Vincent Pallotti in Abilene and after a very brief year was asked to become Pastor here at St. Stephen.

I look forward to my time serving here in Midland and pray that the ministry here at St. Stephen will grow and thrive in the light of the Gospel.

Dear Parishioners, Greetings! Fr. Rodney and I have survived our first week and so have you all, hopefully…! Last Sunday we introduced ourselves, but with the light crowd due to Independence Day weekend and summer vacations it won’t hurt for me do so again briefly for those who were not here. I am originally from the Fort Stockton area. I grew up on a cattle ranch forty miles west and south of there. Both sides of my family have been in the Fort Stockton/Balmorhea area for many years. After graduating from Texas Tech with Food Science and Business degrees in 2005 and working in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I later completed a post-

Queridos Parroquianos. ¡Saludos! Do you need any of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation & Holy Eucharist) or would you like to learn more about our wonderful, rich and deep Catholic faith? Our 2017-18 RCIA year will begin in August 2017. "RCIA" stands for the Rite of Christian

Initiation for Adults. It's the process by which adults come into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving their Sacraments of Initiation. It's free, childcare is

provided, we have a lot of fun and we always have something good to eat. In RCIA, we will have a lot of fun (and eat a lot) as we study 43 in-depth lessons on our faith and learn about 45 Saints. RCIA is a wonderful journey of faith and we welcome you to join us! We will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:45-8:45 p.m. in the Church parlor. You may register for RCIA by sending an email to me at [email protected].

Hermana Gertrudis Muñoz Mendieta I.C.A.S.

As They Say, It Takes A Village….

Thank You, ProPetro Services!

We are interning for ProPetro Services, Inc. this summer and part of our program is a philanthropy project. Thus we are getting the pleasure of volunteering at Helping Hands. Helping Hands is a wonderful organization with many sensational people and personalities. The people who volunteer here show incredible selflessness as they give their time and energy to do extraordinary things for the community. We are extremely grateful to have this opportunity to give back to our community!.

Submitted by Levi McCurdy and Maxwell Rose

What a pleasure it was to have these wonderful people with us for an entire week. They were so much fun and kept us laughing! It is our understanding that ProPetro Services will be sending volunteers to help us for the next several weeks. And what a blessing that is, especially during these summer months when so many people are vacationing out of town. Thank you very, very much!

Thanks also to Patrick Holeva and CMC Business Systems for granting us the use of their copier for another year. We have become so dependent on that printer which does such an outstanding job for us.

Long overdue is our thanks to Charlie Noel from Company Stone for the donation of cement shingles that can be used as flooring for patios, walkways etc. He gave us hundreds of them and while we have sold many of them we still have plenty left. Thank you, Charlie!

Thanks to Lynn Johnson for again sharing the abundance from his garden with us. The tomatoes were delicious!

And as always, very special thanks to the parishioners from St. Stephen’s Catholic Church who each month take up a collection for Helping Hands. Even at the height of summer vacations they still managed to collect over $30,000 for us for the month of July! Your love and concern for your neighbor in need is indeed unsurpassed. God bless you all.

And God bless everyone in this wonderful city for your care of the poor through Helping Hands. We are blessed!
