Dress an Angel Each year Helping Hands and the St.
Stephen’s Women’s Organization coordinate
the “Dress an Angel” project. The families
that are chosen to be recipients of this project have been
helped by Helping Hands of Midland in the past and are in
need but are not receiving any assistance from any other
agency or organization for the holidays. These families will
receive a gift certificate to buy food for Thanksgiving and
Christmas, a bag of presents for each child as well as toys.
Beginning Saturday November 10th 2018 , the children of
these families become our Angels and are available to be
chosen by you, the parishioners. After mass, members of
the Women’s Organization will be in the foyer near the
“Angels” banner to assist you in signing up to buy Christmas
presents, clothing and a fun toy for the Angel or Angels of
your choice. Directions will be handed out with the Angel
card as well as a bag in which you should place your
Christmas wrapped presents. Our phone number is on the
Angel card in case you have any questions or a problem. We
will accept monetary donations if you prefer not to shop.
Thank you so much for your support! These children in need
will receive Christmas presents because of YOU! God bless,
Carmen Rodelo and Leticia Gutierrez
This year we will also be adopting seniors from Terrace
West and are accepting monetary donations towards
purchasing lap blankets.

This week in RCIA, we will learn about the prayers and practices of the Church. We have so many beautiful and wonderful corporate (group) prayers, such as the Our
Father and the Hail Mary. Prayer is at the heart of the Christian life and your prayer life should include both corporate prayers and your individual prayers. We have beautiful and wonderful Catholic practices in the Church, which we encounter through the liturgical calendar. Through the year, we have different colors emphasized in the Church and we celebrate different seasons, such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and ordinary time. The practices of the Church all have purpose and meaning and it is important for Catholics to know and understand the purpose and meaning behind our beliefs and practices.

XXXII DOMINGO ORDINARIO ciclo “B”

We are in the final stages of signing up children (and their families) to sponsor for the holidays. Once again we have partnered with CDI Head Start (serving Midland County), and we will sponsor 350 children. The children who are a part of Head Start come from all different situations. Some of them are in foster care; some receive TANF or SSI due to a disability (of either the child or the parent). All of the children in our program fall well below the poverty guidelines, and only the neediest of families are served. We are also sponsoring a select number of families that we have assisted financially here at Helping Hands, and who we feel would not be able to provide an adequate Christmas for their children without our help. Many of these are single parent households where the parent is undergoing medical hardships (such as cancer) and is unable to work. Each of the children that we sponsor will receive a complete set of new clothing and several toys. The St. Stephen’s Women’s Organization is recruiting sponsors from the parishioners of St. Stephen’s and Midland Memorial Hospital for the clothing and at least one toy. The rest of the toys are being provided by the public (and we thank all of you who are already dropping off new toys for our kids), and by the kind parishioners from St. Ann’s Catholic Church who will host a toy drive within the next few weeks. Each family will receive a $50 gift card to Super Mercado that they can use to purchase food for a Thanksgiving meal, and they will receive another $50 gift card that they can use for a Christmas meal. We used to provide food boxes and a turkey or a ham to these families, but after realizing that not everyone might like the food that we put in those boxes, we opted for the gift card so that the family can choose what they would like to eat. Anyone wishing to help us with a donation of toys or money for the gift cards can bring them by our location at 1301 Brinson Lane, or mail to us at Helping Hands of Midland, 1301 Brinson Lane, Midland, TX 79703. Questions? Call Mary at (432) 528-6265 anytime. Thank you in advance for making Thanksgiving and Christmas a brighter one for those families and children who might not even have a holiday season without your help. God bless each of you!
