This Sunday we celebrate the First Scrutiny Rite. The

Gospel reading concerns the Samaritan woman at the well who encounters Jesus. Although she had never personally

met Jesus, Jesus reveals to her that He knows her and He knows her life situation. He is aware of the sin in her life. He then reveals Himself to her as the Messiah. In response, she enthusiastically runs into town to tell everyone about the coming Messiah. During Lent, we should endeavor to encounter Jesus more intimately and examine (scrutinize) our lives. God knows us. He loves us. He calls us out of sin and into a more abundant life with Him. May we respond to our Lord as the Samaritan woman at the well who rejoiced in the Truth of our Lord. On Tuesday in RCIA, we will study the way of the cross and our Saints of the Day will be Saints Perpetua and Felicity, two early Roman martyrs. "RCIA" stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It's the process by which adults come into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving their Sacraments of Initiation. It's free, childcare is provided, we have a lot of fun and we always have something good to eat. If you have questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Hermana Gertrudis Muñoz Mendieta I.C.A.S.

We are grateful for the huge support that you give our Midland neighbors in need through Helping Hands. Whether it be through cash donations or items to sell in our thrift store, the money generated goes directly to the poor. We are an all-volunteer organization so you can be assured that absolutely none of the money goes to pay salaries.

We are often asked why there is so much help needed in Midland. With our booming economy and abundance of jobs, why is there any need at all? We are quick to point out that whenever we have elderly on fixed incomes and an ever-rising cost of living, the disabled, medical emergencies, devastating loss due to accident or fire, abandonment, death and any number of unforeseen circumstances that arise to throw lives off course, there will be need. We are privileged to be able to respond to those needs because of your help. We offer special thanks to Abell-Hanger Foundation for always being there to assist our clients with their utility bills. We also thank the parishioners of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, San Miguel Arcangel Catholic Church, the congregation of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and all of you who so generously and faithfully support our mission.

BUILDING EXPANSION

We have begun work on an expansion to our current thrift store at 1301 Brinson Lane. We will be adding a

30’x60’ building to the east-side parking lot to allow for a furniture department. We hope the project will be

completed promptly and we ask all of our customers to bear with us during the building. Feel free to use the

west side of our building for additional parking.
