KNOWLEDGE INCUBATION FOR TEQIP
IIT KANPUR
Summer Internship Program with INVENT under SIIC June 01-July 27, 2018
As a part of Summer Internship Program, this year KIT started a unique internship
program which was held in association with INVENT Program SIIC, IIT
Kanpur. This is a step towards motivating students to get acquainted with the
process of converting a viable innovative idea/research into a valuable product and
the final outcome being generating entrepreneurs. It aims to motivate students to
invoke their innovative side by working with some young entrepreneurs who are
strongly motivated to bring change in the society with their innovative ideas.
Most of the companies involved are focused
towards bringing social change and deliver
significant positive impact on the society.
Selected students were paired with start-up
companies incubated at IIT Kanpur and they
worked on assignments given by these companies
for the period of 6-8 weeks starting from June 1,
2018 to July 27,2018. The students were
familiarized to the challenges faced by potential
entrepreneurs to actuate their ideas into a
product/services and learn about their success stories and challenges faced by
them. 19 students were selected to work under this program. Working with these
company’s students were motivated to think outside the box and they got an
exposure to the work environment of an industry. Future collaborations are being
planned by KIT, IIT with SIIC to organize more such programs to create these
opportunities for TEQIP students and teachers

OUTCOME
In past few years KIT summer internship program has evolved into a
portal with the help of which TEQIP institutes and IIT Kanpur are
forming foundations of productive research and knowledge exchange.
The interactions through internships and visiting programs have been
mutually beneficial for IIT Kanpur and TEQIP institutes as they have
resulted in some published work and future collaborations.
This year the internship program with INVENT, SIIC has given a new
direction to this program. It has created an exceptional platform where
students (mostly UG) can get a feel of what it takes to work in an
industry.
Students got exposure to the work environment of an industry
and they were motivated to work towards social
entrepreneurship.
They learned how to apply their knowledge to given task.
How to handle clients and stakeholders.
They got to learn how to work with professional standards.
How to work in cross-cultural and/or multicultural settings.
They improved their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Students had a much better understanding of challenges faced by
an entrepreneur and how to deal with them.
Students got a chance to test their interests in their current field
and develop their long-range career plans.
