In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Peter’s Pence Collection is an opportunity to become a witness of charity to those who suffer most. Pope Francis has encouraged us to “open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the wounds of our brothers and sisters who are denied their dignity, and let us recognize that we are compelled to heed their cry for help!” (Misericordiae Vultus, [MV] no. 15).

Through the Peter’s Pence Collection, we stand in solidarity with Catholics all over the world to support the charitable works of our Holy Father. Contributions to this collection support Pope Francis as he reaches out to those suffering the effects of war and violence, natural disasters, and religious persecution.

Pope Francis has told us that “mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope” (MV, no. 10). PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION Next week our diocese will take up the Peter's Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged:

Vestment Colors

Question: What do the colors of the priest’s and deacon’s vestments mean?

Answer: In the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, the colors of the vestments evolved over the course of several centuries and there was wide variation both in the colors used, and in the feasts and seasons associated with particular colors. It was Pope Innocent III (d. 1216) who gave us the basic outline that was later prescribed by Pope Saint Pius V in 1570. The various colors remind us of the dominant themes of a particular season or celebration.

White: Used for the seasons of Christmas and Easter and in celebrations of the Lord, of Mary, the angels, and saints who were not martyrs. This color is also used in Masses for the dead, at baptisms, weddings and other festive celebrations.

Red: As the color of both blood and fire, red is used on Palm Sunday and Good Friday, as well as Pentecost and special celebrations of the Holy Spirit. Moreover, red is used on the feasts and memorials of the Apostles and those saints who died as martyrs.

Violet: The color for Advent and Lent. Violet may also be used in Masses for the dead and on All Souls Day (November 2).

Green: A color of life and hope, green is used throughout Ordinary Time.

Other colors: Rose may be used on the Third Sunday of Advent and the Fourth Sunday of Lent, black may be used in Masses of the dead and on All Souls Day, gold or silver may be used on solemn occasions in place of white, red, or green.

Eat Healthy! Start by taking small steps to saying no to super-sizing and yes to a healthy breakfast. Eat many different types of foods to get all the vitamins and minerals you need. Add at least one fruit and vegetable to every meal.

Get Moving!! Play with your kids or grandkids. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Do yard work. Play a sport. Keep comfortable walking shoes on hand at work and in the car. Most importantly, choose activities that you enjoy to stay motivated.

“Maestro, ¿no te importa que nos hundamos?” Él se despertó, reprendió al viento y dijo al mar: “¡Cállate, enmudece!” Entonces el viento cesó y sobrevino una gran

calma. Querida familia, espero en el Señor se encuentren bien, la frase del Evangelio que elijo para esta oportunidad es la siguiente: “Maestro, ¿no te importa que nos hundamos?” Él se despertó, reprendió al viento y dijo al mar: “¡Cállate, enmudece!” Entonces el viento cesó y sobrevino una gran calma. Es una frase que impacta porque podemos ver el poder de Dios en acción. Vamos a fragmentar la frase en tres verbos: 1. despertó: Jesús despertó y reprendió, parecería que dejamos a Dios el papel de quietud frente al pedido desesperado de los apóstoles, pero sabemos

que no es así, el Señor tiene la firme certeza de lo que está sucediendo y va a suceder, decir que Jesús despertó, en un sentido profundo es solo parafrasear porque Jesús, siendo Dios, “nunca duerme”, pero despierta frente a los apóstoles temerosos; ¿no habrán sido los apóstoles los que estaban dormidos?, digo esto porque a lo mejor eran ellos los que estaban dormidos en la fe. Cuando nuestra fe esta dormida, muchas cosas parecen que nos matan, porque nuestra esperanza está puesta en nosotros mismos o en las personas y no en Dios. Entonces decimos que Dios está dormido cuando en realidad nosotros estamos dormidos frente a la acción de Dios. Dios no duerme, jamás lo hizo, solo vela por cada uno de nosotros desde la eternidad; 2. reprendió: Al pedido de los apóstoles, el responde con una advertencia al mal: “cállate, enmudece”, tenemos que saber que el mar en el sentido bíblico es el signo del mal, Jesús reprende el mal, pone freno al mal y lo expulsa, ante una orden, hay obediencia. Esto nos muestra el poder de Dios frente al mal o cualquier adversidad como lo vemos aquí. Solo bastaron dos palabras para que la tormenta finalizara, entonces: ¿Cuánto debería decir Dios para que algo cambié?, para que todo se transforme, esto solo nos muestra que nosotros somos los que no nos animamos a cambiar la forma de vivir nuestra Fe. Queremos que Dios hable pero no somos capaces de vivir como Dios nos pide, queremos que Dios responda pero no ponemos de nuestra parte tratando de vivir en gracia buscando la gracia que nos dan los sacramentos; 3. respuesta: algunas veces me di cuenta que dudamos que Dios nos responda porque nosotros no respondemos, ponemos en Dios cosas que el no es. Exigimos a Dios algo que nosotros no somos y ponemos en duda la existencia de Dios solo porque nosotros no actuamos como Dios actúa. Pero Dios siempre responde. Lo que si tengo que ver es que no puedo esperar a que Dios responda lo que yo quiero si no está en la voluntad de Dios y exigir a Dios algo que nunca me hará feliz. Debo pedir al Buen Dios que me de la sabiduría de un buen discernimiento frente a las posibles respuestas de El y a lo que yo quiero y espero de El. Ahora, una respuesta de Dios exige una respuesta mía. Y yo ¿respondo?, o solo exijo de Dios lo que necesito y luego vivo como si El no existiera, estos son nuestros desafíos. Los desafíos de un pueblo que, en una historia de amor, necesita crecer mucho en madurez frente a lo que Dios nos pide a nosotros también. Pero como estamos en la generación del reclamo, todos reclamamos, nos hemos olvidado que debemos dar, dar lo que a nuestro creador le corresponde. La calma, es parte y fruto de una gracia enorme, la calma es signo de la presencia de Dios, la calma en este Evangelio hace referencia al fruto de estar en la presencia de Dios. Es Gracia, cuando la Gracia entra a nuestras vidas, nos transforma, nos hace hombres nuevos, nos da vida nueva, nos da sentido pleno. Como sacerdote me cuesta entender como tiramos por la basura las oportunidades que Dios nos da. Pensar que no hay nada como la gracia de nuestro Dios que nos ama como un Padre amoroso. Entonces te desafío a que el que despierte seas tu, no Dios, El “no duerme”, a que confíes cuando Dios reprende al mal. El reprende con autoridad y poder y disipa el mal. Calma la tormenta. Calma mi tormenta. Y que te animes a responder a Dios, si tu haz hecho experiencia de este amor, debes ser capaz de salir de ti y ser testigo. Rezo por ti. De pronto se desató un fuerte viento y las olas se estrellaban contra la barca y la iban llenando de agua. Jesús dormía en la popa, reclinado sobre un cojín. Lo despertaron y le dijeron: “Maestro, ¿no te importa que nos hundamos?” Él se despertó, reprendió al viento y dijo al mar: “¡Cállate, enmudece!” Entonces el viento cesó y sobrevino una gran calma. Jesús les dijo: “¿Por qué tenían tanto miedo? ¿Aún no tienen fe?” Todos se quedaron espantados y se decían unos a otros: “¿Quién es éste, a quien hasta el viento y el mar obedecen?”

Retiro de Servidores. Este pasado Sábado 12 de Junio en St. Mary’s Moline tuvimos la gracia de tener nuestro retiro para servidores de la Renovación Católica . En el Retiro participaron servidores de la Renovación Católica de St. Mary’s Moline y de St. Mary’s Champaign. El mismo estuvo acompañado desde la oficina del Ministerio Hispano en una jornada intensa de formación a nuestros servidores. El mismo empezó a las 8am y finalizó a las 5pm.

“”Que bien se está aquí, en tu presencia”

En la presencia de Dios siempre se está bien. Recuerdo que cuando era seminarista, una de las experiencias que vivimos es nuestro retiro de mes. Hacemos durante un mes un retiro que nos lleva a estar en la presencia de Dios, es un mes solo con Jesús. No podemos hablar con nadie y la oración se incrementa increíblemente. Es experiencia para mi fue de mucha “paz”, lo recuerdo hasta el día de hoy. Viví en mucha paz. La pregunta para todos es la siguiente: ¿Cuándo buscamos estar de está forma con Dios?, realmente lo hacemos? O ¿todo el día corremos sin sentido por la cantidad de actividades que tenemos en nuestras agendas?, creo que es hora de que frenemos a encontrarnos con Dios para vivir de una forma integra nuestras vidas, debemos disfrutar la presencia de Dios que nos quiere dar Gracias nuevas para nuestra vida y alcanzar el Cielo. Busquemos estos momentos de encuentro con El, recemos más, vayamos más a la Eucaristía, vivamos más en Gracia. Estoy seguro que esto nos devolverá la felicidad que tantas veces anhelamos y no encontramos. Rezo por ti, Padre Julio.

Será para mujeres y hombres con necesidad de sanación espiritual y emocional después del aborto. Será del 13 al 15 de Agosto. Ese es el deseo de su corazón. Él te dice: Porque yo sé muy bien lo que haré por ustedes; les quiero dar paz y no desgracia y un porvenir lleno de esperanza. Cuando me supliquen, yo los escucharé, y cuando me busquen me encontrarán, pues me llamarán con todo su corazón. Entonces haré que me encuentren y los haré volver de su destierro. Confesiones en español. Para todos aquellos que desean confesión no olvidar que las confesiones son de martes a viernes a las 5:30pm en la Iglesia San José. Los domingos a las 7am en la Iglesia San José y 11:45pm en la Catedral Santa María. No olvidar que la gracia de la confesión nos concede: 1) Nos devuelve o nos aumenta la gracia santificante: la amistad con Dios. 2) Nos da fuerzas especiales para evitar el pecado y rechazar las tentaciones. 3) Nos da asco y antipatía por todo lo que sea ofender a Dios. En estos tiempos difíciles la gracia de la confesión nos ilumina y restaura. Nos da la gracia para poder seguir eligiendo a Jesús en medio de un mundo que pretende olvidarlo.
