June 7: Camp Roger | www.camproger.org Camp Roger’s mission is to reveal and celebrate God’s love to God’s children through experiences in God’s world. Camp Roger celebrated its 101st year of operation this year. In order for Camp Roger to serve their current campers and even more in the future, they are looking to update and expand their dining hall as it can no longer accommodate campers and students adequately. Camp Roger doesn’t want a financial barrier to stand in the way of a pro-spective camper. They offer financial assistance to help send chil-dren to camp. Prayerfully consider a gift at this time.

June 14: Trinity Christian College | www.trnty.eduTrinity Christian College is an accredited liberal arts college of-fering nearly 40 programs to study. Students acquire invaluable knowledge from dedicated professors who integrate a Christian worldview into the curriculum. Trinity has a diverse campus of more than 1,400 students who enjoy a nurturing environment in which to pursue their education while broadening their knowl-edge of God, neighbor, and self. Intercollegiate sports for men and women, student-run ministry programs, and a full scope of creative expression in fine arts and student publications add to the Trinity experience.

June 21: Christian Services Ministries www.christianserviceministries.orgChristian Services Ministries provides training for church pastors and lay leaders. They also provide resources and networking op-portunities. They are supported mainly by the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) of the Chicago south side and south suburbs area.

June 28: Elim Christian Services | www.elimcs.org Elim is a Christ-centered community that recognizes the God-given value and purpose of each person, and is committed to learning and to sharing its expertise wherever God calls. Through Elim Christian School, adult services, and outreach programming, individuals with disabilities are equipped to achieve their highest God-given potential, living their lives glorifying Him! Each day over 900 individuals with disabilities turn to Elim for life-changing programs on one of Elim’s two campuses, within 20 Discovery Centers in Christian schools, and through partnerships in five other countries.

Deacons’ Corner“If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, be-lieve the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” John 10:37-38 ESV

Earlier in this narrative a group of people asked Jesus to tell them straight out if he really is the Christ (John 10:24). Prior to this in the Gos-pel of John, Jesus had revealed that he is the Messiah to only one person, the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:26). Here though, it would seem as if Jesus had the perfect op-portunity to reveal himself as the Messiah to a large number of people. He is the one who is going to save them by laying down his life for them. It seems the ideal moment, but he doesn’t.

If we read further we see his answer to those who want to know if he is claiming to be the Messiah and want to stone him for it. In essence, Je-sus responds that even if they don’t believe him they should believe his works because only God could have produced them. In turn, their hearts could have grown soft toward Jesus and what would be the Gospel. What a great lesson for us as believers. Many times our actions or works will be the first seeds planted in the heart of a future Christian. He or she might not believe in the Gospel message, but they believe that there is some-thing different about the way we live our lives, treat others, serve the poor and display grace. God will use these works to bring about the realization of the Holy Spirit’s power at work and the truth of the Gospel.

Be encouraged today if your words about God are being rejected as a simple myth or fairy tale. Remember that your actions can be just as im-portant to a person in their journey to belief in Jesus.

Kids Konnections Wrap-UpWe had a good year in Kids Konnections this year and we want to

share just a few highlights. There were 14 classes for our Kindergar-ten to 12th graders, and we had a staff of 20 teachers. Kate Huizenga was our terrific song leader for the K–4th graders, Emily Klinckman assisted with powerpoint, and Craig Gallman was, as usual, a super superintendent. Friendship Class had a different look this year. The students that came were included in the 3rd and 5th grade classrooms under the coordination of Lisa Cavanaugh.

Some of the special things we did either as classes or as a group were: sing-ing at Providence for the residents; 8th grade food drive for the food pan-try; learning about communion; hearing from the young people who went to Honduras; serving at the Orphan Sunday dinner; putting on the Christ-mas program, “Shepherds, Sheep & a Savior;” watching Madam Blueberry from VeggieTales to learn about coveting; singing on Celebration Sunday; learning about our spiritual gifts; acting out the stories of Noah’s ark and the fall of Jericho…and so much more!

MEMORY WORK For memory work for Kids Konnections this year, we thought it would be fun to memorize the favorite passages of some of the missionaries and then highlight the countries/areas where they work. We learned some wonderful verses this year and were able to have several of the missionaries come and visit us, too!

September – We learned a general verse about missions: 1 Chron. 16:23-24October – Mike VanProoyen (Philippines; came to visit us): Acts 20:24November – Evy Smith (Mali, Africa; came to visit us): 2 Peter 1:3 January – Cliff & Cristine Weiner (Australia): Deuteronomy 31:6February – Andy & Tine VanderLaan (Albania): Psalm 121:1-2 & Colossians 3:2 March – Tim Lin (InterVarsity Kansas; came to visit us): Romans 8:38-39April – Dave and Erin Foster (InterVarsity; came to visit us): John 10:28

CHRISTIAN REFORMED WORLD MISSIONS POSTER CONTEST Each spring, Christian Reformed World Missions has a poster contest to encourage students to think about missions. This year some of the suggested themes for the posters were: God’s Love for the World, * From the Cross, Through the Church, To the World, * Missions Means Me, * Look What God is Doing. Contest winners will be announced later this spring. The 12 students from our church who participated this year are:

Preschool News-Ruth Baas, DirectorTRIKE-A-THON: The children at Orland Park Chris-tian Preschool participated in a fun and active way to bless others. On May 4 and 5, all the children in both classes brought their bikes to school for our annual “Trike-a-thon.” We rode the bikes around a track in our church parking lot for 15 minutes while the teachers counted the number of laps each child rode. Families and friends of the preschoolers donated money at either a flat rate or based on the number of laps ridden. We are thrilled that we were able to raise $2,500 to benefit the Summer Day Camp Program at Roseland Christian Ministries. Rev. Joe Huizenga, dad of our own student Michael Huizenga, is the pastor there. He was very grate-ful for the support that will give children and young people in the Roseland area of Chicago the opportunity to attend a summer day camp where they will be able to explore interesting hobbies and learn about Jesus. Our preschool children learned that it is a blessing to give to others, and it can be fun too!

FAMILY PICNIC: On a beautiful sunny day in May, Orland Park Christian Preschool held its annual fam-ily picnic. The preschoolers and their families came to school at 11 a.m. and enjoyed game stations set up outside – pennies in the sand, ducks on the pond, Bozo buckets, bean bag toss, and bike-riding. After the games, everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch in our Family Life Center. We thank Dave and Jan Kamp for supplying their bouncy house for the children’s enjoyment to finish off a day of fun and fellowship.

SUCCESSFUL EMBRYOLOGY STUDY: We are happy to report that our chick eggs hatched after 21 days in the incubator. We were thrilled to see 17 baby chicks hatch from their eggs and grow into strong, young chicks in just a few days. We thank Phil and Becky Schaafsma for their donation of a new incubator with an automatic egg turner that helped make this project a little easier than it has been in the past. We also thank Vince Kuyvenhoven for finding a home at a local farm for the chicks.

A previous missionary participant referred Marco and Fede to the car ministry program at Orland Park Church. On April 11, we were able

to present them with a 1997 Toyota Camry. What an amazing sighting of God at work to fill an important transportation need for these young missionary students, while also confirming and encouraging them to-wards the full-time mission work that God has put on their hearts. We’ll receive this car back when Marco and Fede leave for the mission field in 1-2 years.

The notes on the application mentioned this:

My wife and I plan on staying here in the US for 1-2 more years. Our goal is to then go back to Italy as missionairies. At this point my wife has found an internship in Aurora doing counseling, and I am working on a applica-tion for a pastoral residency in Naperville. We are planning to move to the suburbs this summer, be involved in our internship/residency, and take our last classes at Moody Theological Seminary. A car is really indispensable for us at this time.

The recommendation from the pastor mentioned this:

Marco and Fede have demonstrated faithfulness and generosity in their finances and other resources, and they are faithful, ethical workers for the Lord. They esteem the Scriptures and seek in everything to live out the Gospel. People standing around them feel energized by their model of servanthood. I see the evidence in their work as students preparing for missionary and pastoral work. And now that they need two internships to complete their studies, the need for transportation is very evident. We will thank the Lord for any provision for transportation, and I fully and whole-heartedly recommend them to you.

We used a verse that day from Matthew:

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.” ~ Matthew 16:24 NLT
