Putney High School has been leading the way in girls’ education since its foundation in 1893. We
build confident, creative thinkers and deliver an education that
is truly relevant to their future. Our community is energetic, fun and above all, down-to-earth. Happy and supported within a democratic environment, our students achieve outstanding results and develop the character and the resourcefulness to make their mark in whatever they choose to pursue.
Ours is a culture of curiosity and openness to new ideas. Our Breathe programme is central to a holistic approach to education where mental and physical wellbeing go hand-in-hand with academic attainment. We are leaders in teaching and learning research and at the forefront of digital technology in education. An award-winning careers programme is bolstered by an established Residency programme, and Putney leavers go on to the finest institutions in the UK and abroad, including Oxbridge, Central St Martin’s and the Royal Academy of Music.

curricular learning and STEAM education, a new
Science, Music, Drama and Debating Centre is scheduled to open in 2021. It will be a space for
pupils and staff to come together to learn, to discuss and to perform, enhancing what is a truly
21st century education.
A spirited and vibrant school, our ethos is to be:

THE DEPARTMENT
Junior PE
Sport at Putney High School plays an important part in the life of our school. The PE department works hard to balance inclusivity with the elite sporting opportunities. Our overriding aim is for the girls to discover and develop a huge range of skills and techniques in a variety of team and individual sports with focus to sportsmanship and team spirit. Our girls play competitively and are motivated to play in and outside of school hours, leading to lifelong involvement in sport.
EYS and KS1 benefit from two lessons of PE a week, with girls developing fundamental coordinator skills and participating in gymnastics/dance activities. Alongside physical skills, our focus is to teach the girls how to work together, play as a team and understand how to acknowledge and accept success and defeat graciously. KS2 benefit from games’ afternoon focusing on a rotation of three different sports, the girls enjoy refining techniques, developing collaboration skills and match play. They also benefit from a separate hour’s lesson of PE/Swimming with their classmates each week.
Putney High School is renowned for its sporting achievements, particularly in netball and gymnastics, and many girls perform at County, Regional and National level. This sets a very high benchmark for sport at our school. A bit part of life at Putney High is the clubs and fixtures on
offer to the girls. The co-curricular clubs programme is designed to be as inclusive as possible, giving girls the opportunity to enjoy a range of sports. It enables extra training to prepare for fixtures, tournaments and competitions and increases skill level. Sports’ practices take place before school, during lunchtime, after school and weekends.
Putney High Juniors is currently one of the leading junior schools for sports in the GDST and London. At all levels and in a whole range of sports, our girls love being physically active, championing each other and developing their skills and abilities as young sportswomen; this is evident through our achievement and results
