JURORArtist Joan Huiner Ranzini is an abstract painter living and working in Virginia. Her work process and product have a structure and intensity of feeling shaped by a background in drawing, architectural design and travel in Japan, expressed using a non-derivative palette and imagery – a background which informs her sense of aesthetics as well as providing a sound judgment of work that deserves attention, regardless of medium or subject.

As a frequent participant in juried shows, Joan is fascinated by how proximity and context change the conversation between and the interpretation of art, and believes that curation is an exciting art form of its own. You can take a peek at what she’s been up to in the studio recently, by visiting her website at www.JoanRanzini.com.

Joan received her BA with High Honors from the College of William and Mary, Fine Arts, emphasis on architecture. She received her Master’s degree in Architectural History from the University of Virginia with coursework in Architectural Design. At the Beverley Street Studio School in Staunton, she has studied, taught drawing classes and served as Academic Program Coordinator. She maintains an active solo and juried exhibit schedule and her work is included in public and private collections.

In August-September 2019 Joan will exhibit her work with three other women abstract artists (Sally Bowring, Janly Jaggard and Sae A Lee) in “Discovery: Four Women’s Work” at the Staunton Augusta Art Center.

ELIGIBILITYOpen to U.S. residents, 18 years or older, working in the following disciplines; painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, fiber, glass, ceramics, wood, metal and mixed media. No photography accepted. All work submitted must be original (no reproductions), not done under supervision, not made from kits or patterns. All work must be suitably prepared for installation. The curator reserves the right to deny entry if any work is deemed not suitable for display or too dicult to install. Entries must have been completed after January 1, 2013, and not previously exhibited in a Lynchburg juried art show.

ENTRY FEEEntry fees are used to oset necessary expenses involved in making the show possible. A non-refundable fee of $35 entitles each artist to submit up
