Principals Report Quality Work Students in 2D and 2F have been enjoying the opportunity to work with Year 9 students from Whitebridge High School in PE lessons. The Year 9 students have an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and give back to the community while the Year 2 students have the opportunity to further development the fundamental movement skills and apply them to games and fitness activities. A win, win for all involved! WHS Music & Master Chef Workshops Selected Year 4 students; Grace W, Vivienne L, Callum B and Isabell M recently attended three of the four Master Chef workshops at Whitebridge High School. These opportunities for Year 4 students are a valuable part of the early high school transition program for students with a special talent or interest in a particular area and assist students in feeling more comfortable as high school approaches. Public Speaking Classes have finished their class public speaking competitions and the top students from each class are competing for an opportunity to represent the school at an Inter-School Public Speaking competition next term. Congratulations to all those who bravely got up in front of large audiences and a special congratulations to those students who make it through to represent Kahibah PS next term. Literacy & Numeracy Parent/Carer Workshop Just a reminder that this evening from 6pm in the school library, prior to the P&C meeting, Mrs Nadine Tagaroulias and Mrs Beth Filipo will be hosting a parent information session about Reading and Numeracy in the early years. If this is an area of interest, we look forward to seeing you there. Jesse H Raffle Tickets If youd still like to purchase a raffle ticket to support Jesse as he continues his preparation to compete at the NSW PSSA 12 & Under Football Championships in the ACT later in August, there are still some tickets available from the front office for $5 each, with the 1st prize being n Apple iPad; 2nd prize being a Nutri Bullet; 3 rd prise is a Fit Bit Charge 3 Fitness Watch; 4th prize is a FitBit Alta Activity Tracker; and 5th prize being a Sony Bluetooth speaker. Parental Involvement is Key Kahibah PS values the contribution that our parents and carers make across the school and we thank each of you for being involved to the extent that your personal circumstances permit. Helping out at the canteen, getting involved with class reading groups or sharing your cultural knowledge, just to name a few ways in which some parents and carers get involved, has far more value than you might realise. At a glance Kids become better learners when their parents get involved in their education. Parental involvement encourages kids to pursue higher education. Parental involvement makes kids happier. Quality Behaviour The following students have been recognised by a teacher for;

Debating Congratulations to our Year 6 Debating Team who competed against Garden Suburb PS on Monday and came away with a convincing win. They debated on the topic of Education which is mostly about how primary schools work and what they should teach. The team were able to produce good arguments and develop strong rebuttal. Thank you to Mrs Carol Callen who continues to train the team as they get ready for the next round. Kindergarten Enrolments for 2020 Thank you to all the families who have already contacted the school to notify us of their interest in having their child begin Kindergarten with us in 2020. Families will be receiving a letter shortly informing them of a time to meet with me to discuss their application. If you’re still yet to apply, please do, so we can include your child in our preparations for next year. Mrs Honi Faasisila Kahibah Public School Principal Basketball Last Monday Mrs Faasisila and Mr Finlay took 2 basketball teams to Newcastle Basketball Stadium for a fun filled day of

competition. Our boys and girls teams both played 3 games each throughout the day. Both teams showed exceptional teamwork and effort and sportsmanship in their games. While neither team won their games, they still played every second of each game with a smile and a never give up attitude. Both teams had some close finishes, accurate shots and enthusiastic defence. Each game was very entertaining to watch. Well done everyone.

Star Struck Dancers A huge congratulations to our fantastic 2019 Star Struck Dancers: Ava R, Lulu B, Eden P, Isabella F, Matilda D, Alanna L, Ada J, Samara J, Bryella C, Neve S, Imogen S, Gemma W, Ellie C, Kohbi-Lee S, Addison M & Sophie E. They performed with great enthusiasm, pride, skill, lots of smiles and wore gorgeous costumes during 4 shows presented to the public – with an audience of thousands over the 2 performance days. The team has been working very hard since last term, attending numerous rehearsal days at the Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium and the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and giving up lunchtimes each week to practice. Star Struck 2019 ‘No Limits’ was the 27

th birthday celebration for Star Struck,

showcasing over 3500 students from public primary and high schools from the Newcastle, Hunter and Central Coast. It is an absolute privilege to be part of such a professional production. The whole show was wonderful and our Kahibah team really did shine. I’m so proud of all of you! Thank you for your hard work and dedication. A huge thank you also to Mrs Kelly Bruce, Miss Olivia Hunt, Mr Steve Skoumbourdis and all the Star Struck parents. Georgia Dawson Struck Dance Coordinator

Star Struck Choir 25 talented students from Kahibah Public School sung in unison with 500 other voices, to produce an immensely beautiful sound for Star Struck 2019. We performed over 15 songs. Our dance moves and costume changes were a wonderful treat for the audience. Please click on this link to relive the magic of the Star Struck Choir 2019. https://spark.adobe.com/page/DVfDQdWZJSnCp/
