Staff had the opportunity to analyse current practice and consider whether a shift in practice could further improve student outcomes. The second part of the afternoon looked at NCCD: National Consistency Collection of Data where the session aimed to assist staff in developing an understanding of; the Disability in Education Act; mandatory implementation of NCCD in all schools; legal requirements for teachers when dealing with students with a disability; and practical examples and scenarios for reasonable adjustments and accommodations for students with a disability. Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School students with Disability and/or Additional Learning and Support Needs Since 2015, all Australian schools are required to participate each year in the annual collection of nationally consistent data on school students with disability. The nationally consistent collection of data on school students with disability (NCCD) uses a model that draws on teachers' professional judgement and practices throughout the year supporting students with disability to access and participate in education. Each year in August, principals will verify data about students in their school receiving adjustments because of disability, based on evidences in the school. Quality Behaviour The following students have been recognised by a teacher for;

Staffing Update A number of teachers across the school are on or are soon to be taking leave. Mrs Louise Hislop is currently on leave and is being replaced by Mrs Simone Taylor this week and Mrs Wendy Dunwoodie for the first week of Term 3, returning Week 2 of Term 3. Mrs Georgia Dawson is currently on leave and is being replaced by Mrs Erin Thompson, returning Week 3 of Term 3. Mrs Nicole Brady will be taking leave from Week 2 of Term 3 and is being replaced by Mrs Wendy Dunwoodie, returning the end of Week 3 of Term 3. Mrs Ruth Higginbottom will be taking leave next term and is being replaced by Mrs Laura Piggot, returning Term 4. Semester 1 Reports Tomorrow your child should be bringing home their semester one school report. This is an opportunity to celebrate the success and effort that your child puts into their learning and to discuss possible areas of improvement. Should you re-quire additional information or wish to arrange a parent teacher interview, you are encouraged to contact the school to discuss your child’s learning with the class teacher. KPS Homework Policy Thank you to the parents and carers who provided valuable feedback over the last couple of weeks on the KPS Home-work Policy. It became evident that the school needed to more visibly note the non-compulsory factor when finalising the policy and acknowledge that families are able to make their own decisions based on their family’s value of the bene-fits and drawbacks of homework. The final KPS Homework Policy has been distributed and is available on the school website. Please ensure that your child returns the slip at the end of the policy indicating whether or not it has been de-cided to either opt-in or opt-out of homework for the remainder of 2018. Moving forward, the policy will go out at the start of each year. School Payments Parents and carers have been sent invoices for outstanding payments for Dance2BFit lessons. There are still payments for Book Packs that are also outstanding; invoices for unpaid Book Packs will be sent out to families early next term if still not paid. Please contact the front office to settle all outstanding payments. Alternatively, contact the front office if you need financial assistance so arrangements can be made. SMS Text & Email In an effort to further support Child Protection and Student Wellbeing, Kahibah PS, with the support of the P&C, has implemented an SMS text and email strategy. When a child is not present at the time the class roll is marked in the morning, an SMS message is sent to families to inform them of their child’s absence and provide the family with an op-portunity to account for their child’s safe whereabouts. Families can then respond immediately via SMS text or email to explain their child’s absence and reassure the school that their child is safe and accounted for. Of course families are still encouraged to notify the school in advance via phone, email or the Skoolbag app when they know their child/ren will be absent.

NAIDOC Week NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cul-tures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our socie-ty. The National NAIDOC theme for 2018 is: Because of Her, We Can! – which aims to emphasise and celebrate the active and significant roles Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played – and continue to play - at the community, local, state and national levels. Local communities often host a variety of activities throughout NAIDOC Week, so if you’d like to know more about these events, please visit http://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/naidoc-week-events Plans are underway at Kahibah PS to hold a NAIDOC activity day early in Term 3.

Kindergarten Enrolments for 2019 Early next term I will take the opportunity to meet some families who have expressed an interest in enrolling their child here at Kahibah PS next year and hopefully all interested families have received a letter inviting them to meet with me to discuss their application. Please note that we are unable to accommodate any families who reside outside of Kahi-bah PS zone. Any local families who are still yet to apply are encouraged to contact the front office.

Have a happy and safe holiday. Students return to school on Tuesday 24th July, 2018

Out of the Box Maths Workshop On Wednesday 20th June, 12 selected Stage 3 students attended a Maths ‘Out of the Box’ Workshop. Ninety stu-dents from 7 schools competed at the event. Firstly, students warmed up by completing a variety of Maths puzzles. They then worked with a partner from KPS to solve a series of Maths challenges. During the afternoon session, stu-dents had to pair up with someone from another school and work collaboratively to solve further maths challenges in a relay event. These challenges got progressively harder and it was a race against the clock to see which team could solve the most correctly. The final challenge was to build a structure using blocks. All students were challenged and pushed out of their comfort zone as well as having a lot of fun. Congratulations to all students who represented Kahibah Public School at this even. Mrs McLoughlin
