The Kappa spotlight will shine on Denver when the Denver Alumnae Association hosts the 149th Kappa Kappa Gamma Convention, June 20 – 24, 2018 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown. The General Convention is the largest of all Kappa’s meetings. We will welcome Kappa sisters from all over the country to our beautiful city for this four-day event, during which there are numerous educational sessions, dinners and award events. Convention is a chance for attendees to learn, share and explore new ideas, all while playing a part in the future of the Fraternity. With such a large and talented group of women, I believe our alumnae association will do a tremendous job of hosting Kappa Convention 2018. Planning has already begun with selecting Local Committee Assistants. Reading PartnersAre you enjoying a great summer read—that wonderful way to mind travel or live in someone else’s shoes for a while? What a gift it is to read and how it is even more appreciated when you share it with someone else! Tutoring an elementary student (K-2) is a rewarding way to enrich a child’s life and to strengthen our community.Reading Partners, a branch of Kappa’s national philanthropic partnership with Reading is Fundamental, has an organized, user-friendly tutoring program that you may find is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity. Its effectiveness—89% of K-2 students mastered the foundational skills needed to read at grade level (based on 2016-17 data)—is impressive. Various sites are located at Denver Public Schools. Volunteers commit to at least one hour/week. This past year, 5+ Kappas provided 172 tutoring sessions to 6 students with positive results. Tutoring begins September 5, but volunteers are placed on a rolling basis as students are identified and placed.

HOOTS AND SALUTES:Thank you to all the ladies who volunteered and agreed to serve as an officer or chairperson in our wonderful Kappa group! It takes many to keep this great group thriving and growing! Many of our Kappa board members met at my home on June 1st and I was energized by all the great ideas and planning already going on! Hood parties were planned and hosted by Louann Miller, Lori Reed and Helena Buckley on July 19 & 20 - we always love meeting new Kappas and will continue to be a group of ladies/sisters who are welcoming to new and returning Kappas! Thank you Louann, Lori and Helena!

Hoots to Margaret Eckel and her Kappa Book and Author Evening committee! What a dynamic and dedicated group of Kappas! Mark your calendars for September 27, 2017!

Thanks to Eileen Parker, Amy Kelsall, and Deborah Osredker for all the creative planning they are doing to ensure our Kappas have fun and engaging programs! Suzy Nelson and her East Side Kappa sisters, Karen Gregorio and her Kountry Kousins and Hayden Plemmons and her Kappa Konnection ladies have also planned a fun-filled year of activities! We are going to have a fabulous year!

A heart full of thanks for Caroline Ely for her two years of leadership of our association. She always led with love, care and joy!

FRATERNITY EDUCATION:Kappa Kappa Gamma has successfully entered into a lease agreement for a new Headquarters office space at Bridge Park in Dublin, Ohio. Throughout this process, the Fraternity had one priority: to ensure that any new option will allow us to operate in the best interest of the membership. The new office space will allow us to accommodate the evolving needs of our collegians, alumnae, volunteers and staff well into the future. Our new office facilities will provide functional Fraternity and Foundation office space, collaborative meeting areas for staff and volunteers, and the ability to preserve and display our archives. The Bridge Park complex is a new multi-use office space that adjoins restaurants, retail boutiques, fitness facilities, a hotel and more...all in a walkable setting. Fraternity Council and the Foundation Board of Trustees would like to thank all Kappas for their continued support throughout this process. Gay MathewsonDAA Fraternity Education Chairman

“Kappas Who Kare” team who walked in the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance’s Jodi’s Race on June 10, 2017, in support of Kappas who have and are battling ovarian cancer. Our team raised $5,100.00!
