“I would like to acknowledge the work Coralie Griffiths and Alison Becroft, from Karabi Community Services, have
done with the students from Pendle Hill High School. These ladies have worked closely with young female
students for the past 2 years at Pendle Hill High School. The ‘Girl’s Program’ has been run well and is a popular
activity for many young female students. Coralie and Alison have run programs to help these students cope with
stressful situations in their lives. Their contribution has been enormous. Their organisation, enthusiasm, willingness
to help and caring nature with the students make them welcome visitors to the school. The school is a better
place because of their input! Once again, thank you and we look forward to continuing our association with your
community group.”

Karabi Youth Services
Advice and support:
This involves a one off session for young
people and their families, so that they
can explore their options and seek the
assistance they need to achieve their

their goals and link them with supportive
pathways.

Programs:
This includes programs which young
people build and develop life skills
needed for a healthy and safe future.
Such life skills include relationship
development, self-help strategies, career
and employment and social support.

“In my own words” Memoirs Project
Launch
In 2015, Karabi was awarded funds by the Mazda Foundation to record the
stories of local community members from recollections, photographs and
other memorabilia. Karabi recently celebrated the launch of four memoirs—
Cyril Weiley, Betty Egan, Joy Lee and Kevin Woodward. It was a great honour
to hear their stories and a privilege to be involved in collating their memoirs.
Karabi would like to take this opportunity to thank one of our volunteers,
Reinhard Stark, for his special contribution to this project.

“My name is Louise Williamson and I am a parent of children who attend the Constitution Hill Library playgroup. I am wishing to send you this letter of recommendation for your Community Development Worker Janine Lever.
Janine Lever has been the leader at the Constitution Hill Library playgroup I have attended with my children for the past year and a half. I absolutely love going to the playgroup and my daughter who is one of the older children loves going there too despite being bored at another playgroup I attend with my children.
I have found her to be highly engaged with the children, providing activities that encourage appropriate development. She loves the children and tries to accommodate their needs into the program. She knows what their favourite toys and activities are and gets them out for the children to play with.
She is a highly knowledgeable community development worker who uses her experience as a mother and a worker to provide advice or kind words when she is asked about different topics related to what parents may be going through. She has provided us with a resource folder to gather more information if needed.
I highly recommend Janine as our community development worker for our playgroup. I may not have attended to the extent that I had with another person. She is just so suited to this role. “
“Hi this is Rashmi Yande. I am a resident of Wentworthville . I have a 4 year old son called Vihaan. We moved to the western suburbs 1.5 years ago. Being the only child and having no friends my son did not enjoy our home. He was 2yrs and 6 months then. I started looking for kids sessions.
Fortunately we came across Karabi community centre. ...We were blessed with our new educator and my lovely friend Janine .Her people skills are amazing. I guess she loves her job. She never gets angrier or upset at anyone. I salute her creative ideas. She always goes out of her way and comes up with something great. My son who was very introverted also started liking playgroup. He had separation anxiety. He would hesitate to mingle and was very shy. Thanks to Janine who involved him in group activities, taught him how to share and mainly she disciplined him in a friendly way. She plans lot of activities which increased bonding between parents and kids. My son loves coming to playgroup, different activities like crafts, painting etc. He will be going to school next year, he has learnt a lot from Janine. I must say he comes to playgroup because of Janine.
From last year we started attending the Wednesday playgroup at the Wentworthville public school too. We enjoy both these playgroups. The picnic arranged by Karabi was awesome. Janine, Manish all are excellent team members. I am so thankful to them for serving the community so well and special thanks for celebrating each child’s birthday and for making them feel great. I wish you all continue this good work as you are playing a very special role in development of our kids. I still remember how Janine helped me with positive parenting guidance when i used to be frustrated and had no social support here.
I only have one suggestion , we should have mums group even though kids are out of playgroup women could have their own meet up group for socialising!”
Thank you for the compliments!
