K.B. WOMEN’S COLLEGE’S GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION

Established in 1963, K.B.Women’s College has come a long way in the fifty years of its existence and has succeeded in establishing its identity as an institution of excellence in the direction of empowerment of women. To commemorate 50 years of its glorious existence pronounced as “Aarohan”, K.B.Women’s College had planned to organize a series of events for Golden Jubilee Celebrations over a period of two years i.e. from 2012 to 2014.The highlights of the various events organized during the period are following:

Co-Curricular Activities

To begin with the celebrations an Inter College “OPEN QUIZ” Competition was organized on 20th Jan, 2012. . A total of Six Colleges took part in the Competition, and Team of St.Columba’s College was adjudged as the winner while Team of University Law College was the first Runners Up and UCET, VBU was the second Runners Up.

The 7th annual conference of Bhartiya Mahila Darshinaka Parishad (BMPD) from 16th to 18th March 2012 was hosted by the Department of Philosophy. This conference provided a golden opportunity for a congregation of the academicians, scholars and philosophers from different part of the country to re-evaluate our concepts and values and redefine man’s existence against the explosion of knowledge, agnosticism and scepticism.

The college conducted legal awareness camp on 28th August 2012 to make the student’s aware of their fundamental right and laws meant to safeguard their interests.

A Golden Jubilee Seminar Hall was inaugurated on 21st January 2013 and it marked the beginning of K.B. Sahay Lecture Series.

K.B. Sahay Lecture Series

K.B. Sahay lecture series was organized by various departments as a means of providing our students a platform to interact with experts in the concerned subject:

1) The guest speakers, Dr. Narsingh Dayal, Dean (HOD) of P.G. Dept. of Botany, Ranchi University, Ranchi and Dr. M. Raziuddin, Professor of P.G. Dept. Of Zoology, VBU, were invited to speak on Gene Technology and Oesophageal Cancer - Causes and Remedies by The Department of Botany and CND.

2) The Department of Commerce and Economics hosted a talk on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Retail Sector which was delivered by the eminent scholar, Dr. Ramesh Sharan, Professor of P.G. Dept. of Economics, Ranchi University, Ranchi.

3) Dr. Anil Kumar Karan, The Chairperson of

the School of Mathematical Sciences, NISER,

Bhubhneswar was invited to speak on

Elliptic Integral and Fundamental Limit

Formula by The Department of

Mathematics.

4) Mrs. Rafat Farzana, State Co-ordinator, Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of

Jharkhand,was invited to deliver a lecture on Adolescent Anaemia & Pre- Conception and

Pre- Natal Diagnostic Test by The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics.

5) Dr. Rampriya Prasad, Ex-HOD, Department of Political Science, St. Columba’s college,

Hazaribag was invited to deliver a lecture on Gandhi Ji Ki Vichaaardhara by The

Department of Political Science.

Departmental Seminars

The Departmental seminars have been introduced for the students with a purpose to facilitate a deeper understanding of the ideas and values in the text through shared discussion. Students are encouraged to think out loud and to exchange ideas openly while examining ideas in a rigorous, thoughtful manner.

NSS

The NSS unit of our college is very active and over the years, several dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students volunteers have endeavoured to achieve the objective of the National Service Scheme – Development of personality of students through community service and the NSS motto of “Not Me But You”. Our NSS volunteers had participated in various NSS Mega Camp, Republic Day Camp and Adventure Camp under the supervision of former NSS Programme Officer, Mrs. Poonam Dhan.

Some Remarkable NSS Activities in the Academic Year 2013-2014

The NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Anupama Singh and her ever zealous volunteers have been conducting various activities under the supervision of the Principal, Dr. Rekha Rani:

The NSS Foundation day was celebrated heartily on September 24th, 2013 in the college campus. The Chief Guest, Dr. Nakul Prasad ,NSS Coordinator, Vinoba Bhave University highlighted on the importance of NSS in present scenario and urged the students to take up the national service in its true spirit and meaning. Dr. Yamini Sahay threw light on the precious thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and the programme officer, Dr. Anupama Singh emphasized on the significance of observing the NSS Foundation day.

Qaumi Ekta Saptah is being observed in our college from November 19 – 25, 2013, in which NSS volunteers launched a cleanliness drive in and around college campus. A debate competition on the topic “ Rajniti ka Aadhar- Dharam ya Vikas” was organized as part of the celebration.

The college NSS Unit celebrated the Volunteer Day with great enthusiasm on December 6, 2013. The Chief Guest, Dr. Nakul Prasad gave emphasis on the importance of the NSS Symbol, especially the red colour that represents energy and strength of young blood, and inspired students to use their energy in the welfare of the society.

To observe the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand , National Youth Day is celebrated on January 17, 2014. A seminar was conducted on the thoughts of Swami Vivekanand. Dr. Rampriye Prasad, Former HOD, Dept. of Political Science, St. Columba’s College was the chief guest, who delivered a lecture on “Swami

Vivekanand ka Yuvawo ke Liye Sandesh” and the Principal, Dr. Rekha Rani highlighted on the role of discipline in student’s life.

NSS Unit along with the whole college celebrated Republic Day through various cultural programmes on January 26, 2014.NSS volunteers of college participated at various competitions held on eve of Republic Day at Vinoba Bhave University, our college stood at first place in Tableau Competition and bagged second prize in Group Song Competition.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The college provides its students numerous opportunities to take part in a wide variety

of cultural competitions. Our students have been actively participating in various

competitions at Inter-College Youth Festival. To mark the celebrations of the Golden

Jubilee year a plethora of competitions such as Singing, Dancing, Debates, Dramas,

Creative Writing, Rangoli, Mehendi etc. were conducted for the students.

SPORTS

The college lays special emphasis on sports and games. We have earned a reputation for

success in intercollegiate competitions and tournaments. Moreover, many students have been

representing Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag in the All India Inter University

Competitions and National-Level Competitions and come back with a number of trophies.

INTER COLLEGE ARCHERY TOURNAMENT

V.B.U. Inter College Archery Tournament was hosted by K. B.Women’s College, Hazaribag

on 20th December, 2013. Participants from 09 colleges took part in the event. Archers of

Chas College, Chas, won the Inter-College Archery (Men) Championship and St. Columba’s

College, Hazaribag became Runners up team whereas overall championship for Women

Category went to K. B.Women’s College, Hazaribag and S.S.L.N.T College, Dhanbad

became Runners up team.

Closing Ceremony of the

Golden Jubilee Celebration

The Closing Ceremony of the year-long events of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of K.B. Women’s College, Hazaribag came to an end on 15th February, 2014. Acting Vice Chancellor cum Divisional Commissioner of North Chotanagpur, Sri Surendra Singh Meena graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries on the stage were Dr. S. P. Sinha, Registrar, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, Dr. C. Prasad, Proctor, VBU, Dr. S.K. Agarwal, Dean of Science, VBU, Sri Saurabh Narayan Singh, MLA of Hazaribagh Constituency.

The function commenced with the presentation of bouquet to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, followed by a welcome song. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries followed by invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswati through a Saraswati Vandana advanced the function. Extending a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests, the Principal, Dr. Rekha Rani presented the college report tracing the progress and achievements made by the college in the last fifty years. The Chief Guest and the distinguished guests released the Golden Jubilee Magazine “Aarohan” that highlights the 50-year journey of the college from its inception to current standing.

The Chief Guest, Sri Surendra Singh Meena congratulated the college on reaching such an important milestone and appreciated the college to remain resolute in its mission to serve the young women of the state and the region. He also highlighted on the advantages of women education as it can lead to progress and achievement of the community which can further transform the society as well. Sri Saurabh Narayan Singh also congratulated the college on achieving this major landmark. He observed that this premiere college

is the pride and brand of Hazaribag and one of the most sought after by the people of region. He also assured the college authorities that he would favourably provide a fifty- seated bus for its students.

The mega event comprised of an array of cultural events. The students showcased the rich Indian culture by presenting the folk dances of India. The rhythm of the Dandiya, the beats of Jharkhand’s Tribal dance, the amazing Garba performance, the magic of solo dance ‘O re Piya’ left everyone spellbound. Moreover, a melodious Rabindra Sangeet through dance performance spread its charm to the occasion. A mime spreading the message of ill effects of mobiles stole the show.

The programme was followed by the Prize and Award Distribution Ceremony. All the founder teachers of the college were felicitated on the occasion. Meritorious students in academics and extra-curricular activities were given medals, prizes and certificates for their contribution.

The audience comprising students, faculty, staff, alumni, former teachers, parents etc., enjoyed the programme a lot.The function was compared by marvellous speaker Mrs. Sarita Jha, Asst. Professsor, Department of Mathematics. The programme culminated with a vote of thanks presented by Miss Sela Topno, Prof-Incharge of the College.
