She will correlate common cardiac conditions observed in the aging population--chronic heart failure, hypertension, valvular heart disease including aortic stenosis, atrial fibrillation and hypercholesterolemia. Bancroft also will discuss the myriad of drugs used to treat the various cardiovascular conditions--their mechanisms of action, side effects, drug-drug and drug-food interactions, and polypharmacy. Risk factors will also be discussed for cardiovascular diseases.

NEW! Pathways to Solutions with Self-Destructive AdolescentsIn today’s highly toxic digital era of extremes, economic upheaval, and high stress, we are seeing more adolescents with multiple self-destructive behaviors that include self-injury, substance abuse, bingeing and purging or overeating, excessive Internet use, violent gaming and gambling, and cyber-sex. In any combination these behaviors can contribute to serious psychological, physical, family, school performance consequences. However, adolescents will protect their habits at all costs, making it difficult to engage and retain them in treatment. In this hands-on, practice-oriented seminar, participants will learn a collaborative eco-systemic approach that targets interventions at the adolescent, family, social network, and larger systems levels. The clinical implications of the latest research on adolescent self-destructive behaviors will be discussed. Instructor: Matthew Selekman, MSW, LCSW.
