Selection criteria for Indicators and Counters
1 Visibility
1.1 Sizes
Depending on type, you can choose from 4 standard sizes tosuit the space available for your application. The front dimen-sions are 48x24 / 48x48 / 96x48 and 72x72 mm.
When good visibility is required for process visualisation, or per-haps if the observer is several metres from the display, the96x48 mm size offers a solution with its super bright LED indi-cator.
1.2 Indicator type
With the exception of the electromechanical counters (Favour-ably priced digital indicators) and the straightforward indicatordevices (Extremely bright LED display), there is a choice be-tween a high-contrast liquid crystal display (LCD) and a light-emitting diode display (LED).
The LCD display is somewhat more favourably priced and re-quires less current, having a lower performance display as aconsequence. Therefore, whenever exceptional readability is arequirement a large LED display should be selected.
2 Functionality
2.1 Counters
Electromechanical summators are used overall in cases whereno output signals are required and a cost-effective counter func-tion has to be achieved with or without a reset function. TheKCM Series satisfies these requirements.
Electronic preset counters are used to control sequences viaswitch outputs and to display scaled values. Even without theuse of the preset function the electronic counters with LED dis-play offer better readability. This capability is provided by theKCT Series.
2.2 Time measurement
The multi-function devices in the KCN and KCT Series are suit-able for both short term and long term measurements and alsofor measuring operating hours. These devices are capable ofmeasuring times with an accuracy of one msec. The measuringintervals can be started and stopped automatically through theuse of 2 inputs. Long term measurements are likewise possible.The maximum time that can be displayed is 999999 hours.
2.3 Velocity / frequency measurement
In order to measure revolutions and frequencies pulse separa-tions are measured (Measurement of the period of oscillationbetween 2 pulses). The indication can simply be scaled andpresented, for example, in Hertz or rpm. The KCN and KCT Se-ries represent a quality solution for these applications.
2.4 Multi-function devices
The KCN and KCT Series with the Timer - Counter - Tachome-ter function can be universally applied to tasks, in which anumber of signals have to be acquired by one device and therelated programming adapted speedily to the specific applica-tion. These Series also offer advantages in cases where futureplant modifications may be involved and in reducing storesholding requirements by utilising just one device for three appli-cations.
2.5 Display of analogue values
The DA5 Series is used to display measured analogue valuessuch as pressure, temperature and distance. These devicesprovide a scaled indication of the measured values in a digitalpresentation and with extremely good readabiity. Here the userhas the choice between a 48x24 mm format display and a proc-ess display in the 96x48 mm format, with two relay outputs andlinearisation for sequence control.
2.6 Operation
The requirements for an optimum operating philosophy vary de-pending on the specific application. The following requirementsare pertinent:
• No adjustability / only reset function, so that nothing canbe re-adjusted.
• Operation as simple and as straightforward as possible,with limited functionality.
• Menu-driven operating control with great flexibility in use.
These requirements are covered by the series as follows:
• KCM (No adjustment option)
• KCY and KCX (Simple adjustment of preset values by onebutton for each position)
• KCN and KCT (Menu-driven operation up to the connec-tion via a RS 232 interface; push-button lock can be acti-vated)

Function
Tachometers are pulse-controlled time measuring devices.In contrast to standard tachometers, which count the incoming pulses within a peak time,these tachometers evaluate the period of time between two consecutive input pulses (cyclicmethod). The period of time is assigned an adjusable multiplication factor and converted intoa rotational speed in rpm or a velocity, depending on the mode of operation.
Advantage:The cyclic method requires only one pulse per revolution and a maximum of two revolutions,in order to determine the rotational speed with high accuracy.

Function
The function of the FC-21-V Electronic Cam Switch Unit corresponds to that of a mechanicalcam switch unit.The current position of the machine that is to be controlled is read in by anabsolute value rotary encoder.Depending on the resolution of the encoder, up to 512 cams can be programmed on each ofthe 24 cam tracks. The cams switch the electronic outputs on and off as a function of the readin position. The outputs of the FC-21-V are used to initiate the actuating elements of the ma-chine (Solenoid valves, relays, etc.) in accordance with the operating cycle and they also pro-vide the link to higher level control systems (PLCs, etc.). The FC-21-V electronic cam switch unit satisfies the requirements of flexible manufacturingsystems in that up to 10 different programs can be stored in the user memory (EEPROM) andselected externally. For the purpose of data security the programs can be stored on normal commercially availablecassettes using a cassette recorder.The FC-21-V electronic cam switch unit operates with the absolute value encoders in theTRD-AK...-GC-Series, which can code 360, 512, 720 or 1024 positions per revolution. The op-erating cycle of the machine that is to be controlled can be resolved into 1°, 0.7°, 0.5° or 0.35°intervals.

Function
The isolated amplifier has two inputs and two relay outputs (change-over contact) and is usable either as dual channel isolated amplifier or as two-point control (min/max control).The inputs are designed in a way, that the signals of sensors which have PNP or NPN output transistors as well as push-pull outputs, can be processed. In the case of sensors with push-pull outputs the switches S4 or S5 have to be set to position Ι. For sensors with PNP or NPN output transistors, the switches S4 or S5 have to be set to position ΙΙ. The operating behaviour of the sensor can be selected: NO S1/S2 in position Ι; NC S1/S2 in position ΙΙ.
Dual channel switching amplifier for binary sensors or contacts
With this function (S3 in position Ι) contact or sensor signals from the input are transmitted to the relay output.
Parallel operation (1 input, 2 outputs)A signal duplication can be realized by the following measures:
• Jumper terminal 2 to terminal 5.• One sensor to input Ι or ΙΙ.
Two-point control (min/max control) with storage of status
On this setting (S3 in position ΙΙ) the information from the two inputs is combined. When the supply voltage is switched on, relay 1 is energised until input 2 is activated (reset input). Input 1 works as an set input.

Example 1: filling of a vessel (two-point level control, S3 in position ΙΙ)
Min contact or min sensor is connected to input 1 (set), max contact or max sensor is connected to input 2 (reset). Dip switch S1 and S2 are on position Ι. A filling pump is connected to output 1 or 2 (terminals 7/8 or 10/11).
When the supply voltage of the KFA6-SR-2.3L is switched on, the pump will also switched on as long as the Max contact is not activated. During operation the pump is switched off as soon as the level has reached max position. If the level reach min position, the pump is switched on. If the KFA6-SR-2.3L has no power supply, the pump is switched off.
Example 2: emptying of a vessel (two-point level control, S3 in position ΙΙ)
Max contact or max sensor is connected to input 1 (set), min contact or min sensor is connected to input 2 (reset). Dip switch S1 and S2 are set to position Ι. An emptying pump is connected to output 1 or 2 (terminals 7/9 or 10/12.
When the supply voltage of the KFA6-SR-2.3L is switched on, the pump will also switched on, if max contact is activated. During operation the pump is switched off as soon as the level has reached min position. If the level reach max position, the pump switched on. If the KFA6-SR-2.3L has no power supply, the pump is switched on.
Comments:
1. NO with push-pull output stage means that the closing contact or transistor is connected to terminal 2 and 3 (5 and 6).NC with push-pull output stage means that the opening contact or transistor is connected to terminal 2 and 3 (5 and 6).
2. In dip switch position S3/Ι (dual channel, independent) an output relay is activated if the corresponding input is activated.Derating of the sensor currents in dependence of the ambient temperature
The maximum value of the sensor currents is controlled by a thermal overload protection of the device.

The KFU8-DW-1.D Speed Monitor is a device for the indication and monitoring of periodic signals, which occur in almost all areas of au-tomation and process technology, i. e. of frequencies in general and rotational speeds in special cases. The input signals are evaluated in ac-cordance with the cycle method, i. e. by measurement of the period of oscillation and conversion into frequency or rotational speed by a veryfast µ controller.
The frequently occurring special case of rotational speed measurement has been paid particular attention in the development of the device.Thus indication and input can be either in Hz or in rpm. It is also possible, in applications involving slow processes, in which the signal sensorsprovide many pulses per revolution, to operate automatically with the actual rotational speed of the drive by specifying the number of puls-es per revolution.
The indication of the measured value is provided on a 4-digit, 7-segment LED display on the front of the device, with up to 3 places afterthe decimal point.
The monitoring function is achieved on the basis of a limit value, whose upper and lower hysteresis value is freely selectable within the re-spective display range. The output signal is generated by a relay with a changeover contact, when the hysteresis limits are violated. Thanks to a high switching ca-pability, the relay output can be used for the direct activation of an actuating element or as an input signal for a higher level control sys-tem.Also, the switching status of the relay is indicated by means of a yellow LED on the front of the device.A function block is connected in series with the relay, which 10 provides for various timer functions and thus obviates the requirement forthe subsequent addition of a timer relay. In addition to the pull-in and drop-out delay, passing make contact and and pulse extension, thedirection of operation of the relay, i. e. monitoring of speed fluctuation about a nominal value, can also be selected.The built-in start-up override, initiated when the power supply is switched on, or by an external signal, prevents error signals during therunning up of the monitored system.
The speed monitor can be supplied with 115 V AC, 230 V AC or by a 24 V DC supply and when connected to an alternating voltage it providesa 24 V DC source to supply the signal sensor.
All current two, three and four-wire proximity switches and incremental encoders can be accepted as the signal sensor.In addition, twoterminals are reserved for the connection of proximity switches in accordance with DIN 19234 (NAMUR).

The KFU8-FSSP-1.D frequency-voltage/current converter is a device for displaying and monitoring periodic signals, which occur in almost allareas of the automation and processing industry, i.e. frequencies in general and rotational speeds in particular.Input pulses are evaluated according to the cycle method, i.e. by measurement of the periodicity, and are converted into a frequency or rota-tional speed by a µ controller. Depending on the measurement range value selected, the µ controller calculates a voltage or current value pro-portionate to the input frequency and exports this value via a digital-analog converter.The following analogue signals are available for selection: 0 V ... 10 V, 2 V ... 10 V, 0 mA ... 20 mA, 4 mA ... 20 mA.The serially switched output provides the input frequency which can be subdivided by the adjustable factor (1 ... 9999).Special consideration was given to the frequently occurring special case of rotational speed measurement during the development of the device.This makes it possible for the display and inputs to be either Hz or in min-1.In addition, in applications with signal encoders that return multiple pulses per revolution, it is possible to operate automatically at the actualspeed of the drive by assigning the number (1 ... 1200).The frequency/voltage/current converter is supplied with 115 V AC, 230 V AC or 24 V DC. When it is connected with alternating voltage it pro-vides an unstabilised 24-VDC source of power for the signal encoder.All commonly available two- three- or four-wire proximity switches and incremental encoders on the input galvanically separated by an opticalcoupler are accepted as a signal source. In addition, two terminals are reserved for connecting proximity switches or incremental encoders inaccordance with DIN 19234 (NAMUR).The input signal frequency in Hz or the speed in min-1 - or the output signal voltage in V or current in mA - appears in a 4-place 7-segment LEDdisplay on the front of the device. Parameters can be set with 4 buttons underneath the display.

Via the Power Rail PR-05 or UPR-05 can the devices be supplied with 24 V DC by means of the power feed modules and at the same time the collective error messages are evaluated. If no Power Rails are used, power supply of the individual devices is realised directly via their device terminals.
Each power feed module is used for fusing and monitoring groups with up to 100 individual devices. The Power Rail PR-05 is an inset component for the DIN rail. The Power Rail UPR-05 is a complete unit consisting of the electrical inset and an aluminium profile rail 35 mm x 15 mm x 2000 mm. To make electrical contact, the devices are simply engaged.
The Power Rail must not be fed via the device terminals of the individual devices!

The relay outputs can be used for indicating if the signal is below or above the trip value or for the indication of the rotation direction.
The two electronic outputs repeat the input signals
By means of the analogue output the actual slip or the differential pulses of the synchronisation monitoring can be indicated. It is also possible a current which is proportional to the frequency in relation to input I to indicate.
The input and output circuits are galvanically isolated.

The device processes two input frequencies up to a max. of 1 kHz. The following functions are provided by the device:
• Frequency measurement with freely adjustable trip value monitoring for high and low alarm as well as for frequency-current-conversion (0/4 mA ... 20 mA)
• Slip monitoring: The slip is calculated from the two input frequencies at channel 1 and 2. If the freely parameterisable trip value is exceeded, the respective output switches.
• Rotation direction signalling: The rotation direction is evaluated from the two input signals with the same frequency and a phase shift of 90°. The corresponding outputs switch according to the direction of rotation.
• The frequency monitoring can be used in combination with rotation direction signalling or slip monitoring.• Synchronisation monitor: The synchronisation monitor compares the pulse counts of the two inputs. If the measured
difference in the pulses is greater than the programmed value the corresponding outputs are switching.The two electronic outputs serve to repeat the input signals.

The universal frequency converter KFD2-UFC-1** converts an input frequency into a frequency-proportional current and offers at the same time the possibility to monitor trip values.
The frequency value for the minimum (0 mA or 4 mA) and the maximum output current (20 mA) is freely parameterisable.
Also the functions of the switch outputs (2 relay outputs and 1 potential free transistor output) are freely adjustable [trip value display (MIN/MAX alarm), serially switched output, pulse divider output, error signal output].
A start-up override that can be activated externally is integrated as well. The maximum input frequency is 12 kHz.
The input and output circuits are galvanically isolated.
The KFD2-UFC-1** can be supplied via the Power Rail, which also transfers the collective error message. The version KFD2-UFC-1.D can be adjusted by means of the control panel and the software, the version KFD2-UFC-1 only by means of the software.

Using Power Rail PR-03 or UPR-03 the devices are supplied with 24 V DC by means of the power feed modules. If no Power Rails are used, power supply of the individual devices is possible directly via their device terminals.
Each power feed module is used for fusing and monitoring groups with up to 100 individual devices. The Power Rail PR-03 is an inset component for the DIN rail. The Power Rail UPR-03 is a complete unit consisting of the electrical inset and an aluminium profile rail 35 mm x 15 mm x 2000 mm. To make electrical contact, the devices are simply engaged.
The Power Rail must not be fed via the device terminals of the individual devices!
