Appearing Nowat Kennett High School...

Dr. Michael Barber has been appointed as Principal of Kennett High School. Dr. Barber accepted the position in July and has been working collaboratively with outgoing Principal Mr. Wesley S. McDowell to transition into the 2007-2008 academic year.

Welcome back! My name is Michael Barber and I am honored to be the newly appointed principal of Kennett High School. I come to you by way of Interboro High School where I enjoyed nine wonderful years working with stu-dents, parents and various stakeholders in an effort to provide the best educational experience possible. Most recently, I served as Interboro’s assistant principal in charge of the 11th grade.

My personal educational journey has been rewarding. With the utmost support from my parents I continued to pursue higher education upon graduating from Ridley High School. My post-secondary educational experiences include a B.S. in Business Administration (concentration in accounting) from Widener Uni-versity; M.S. in Curriculum, Instruction and Technology Education from Temple University; and, an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies also from Temple University. I am eternally grateful for the sacrifices my parents made to ensure educational opportunities for both of my brothers and myself.

So…why Kennett? Throughout my years in education I have heard such positive remarks about the students, staff and community of this district. Thus, I was thrilled to hear that the position of high school principal was opening. The opportunity to positively make a difference in the lives of students in a dynamic environment like Kennett was an enticing opportunity.

Throughout the interview process I met a number of people connected to the school district and was utterly impressed. The level of care and profession-alism displayed throughout the entire process was unprecedented. I routinely thought…what a wonderful place to be.

To be named the next high school principal is a very humbling experience. I would like to acknowledge three people who have diligently worked to make this transition a smooth one. Mr. Wes McDowell, Mr. Ray Fernandez and Mrs. Tomorrow Jenkins are truly worth their weight in gold. I cannot begin to thank them enough for all their efforts over the past few months. This terrific team is truly dedicated to the students of this academic institution.

My goals for Kennett High School focus on improving student achievement and attendance while providing a conducive educational environment for students and staff. It is our responsibility to build on the many positives that we have re-cently experienced, such as Adan Ortiz being crowned the best in the nation in cyber-securities at the FBLA national competition, or the much deserved accolade bestowed upon teacher, Mr. Michael King – The Kennett Education Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award! These are just two examples.

On behalf of my wife Lora, our six-month old daughter Natalie and myself I want to express our sheer excitement for the opportunity to work with the Ken-nett community. I am looking forward to seeing all of you achieve your desired success. Blue Demon pride and excellence - always!

Respectfully yours, Michael Barber, Ed.D.

On the evening of June 8, members of the Class of 2007 were graduated from Kennett High School. Music featured members of the Concert Band, Concert Choir and Chorale with Bob Hoch and Katie Soukup directing. Fol-lowing the invocation by Andrew Outten and remarks by Class Presi-dent Gregory Norris, commencement speak-ers Stephanie Griffin, Nathan Budischak, Grayson Sundermeir and Danita Johnson (all members of the graduat-ing class) addressed the crowd. Assistant Prin-cipal Raymond Fernan-dez read the scholarships and Superintendent Dr. Rudolph Karkosak pre-sented the class for ac-ceptance by Dr. Thomas Griffin, School Board Vice President. Wesley McDowell, Principal, called the roll of gradu-ates after which Jeanne Hutton, Chairperson of Guidance Department, announced the awards. The graduates were wel-comed as alumni by as-sociation member and KCSD teacher Patricia Tatum, a member of the Class of 1974. Mr. Mc-Dowell ended the gradu-ation ceremony with his closing remarks. Senior class advisors Dustin Mott and Michael Kel-ly assisted throughout the exercise where the following prizes were awarded:

Ruben Gaytan, a rising senior, learned journalistic methods from some of the best in the business when he took part in the Princeton University Summer Journalism Program this summer. He was one of only 22 juniors and seniors chosen from 878 applicants for the 10-day seminar.

The program is free for the future journalists, who stayed on campus. In addition

to learning from current and former staffers of The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and The New Republic, among others, the students wrote their own stories during the seminar. A trip to New York City included a tour of ABC News head-quarters, and story assignments for the students, who then hit the streets to do some real reporting.

During the school year Ruben volunteers his time at Kennett’s student newspaper, The Demon Press. He is a member of the National Honor Society and plays soccer among other activi-ties. As a member of the Academically Talented Program, Ruben completed an independent journalism project during his sophomore year. His mentor was Ms. Irene Meredith.

In addition to his journalism program, Ruben participated in the Governor's School for International Studies. Admission to any of the eight Governor's Schools for Excellence is a competitive process with fewer than 1000 qualifying students from all over the Commonwealth. The School for International Studies is hosted by the University of Pittsburgh and provides "a select group of academically tal-ented and highly motivated high school students with a challenging, integrated introduction to the social sciences and the world langugage and culture studies that are important to any global educa-tion program."

Ruben is the son of Ruben and Graciela Gaytan of Kennett Square.

More Kennett Kudos

Two members of the Class of 2007 won awards in the 33rd An-nual Chester County Congressional Art Show held at the Chester County Art Association in West Chester in May.

Julie Agbo won a Chester County Art Association Excellence Award with her graphite/mixed media drawing (re-produced above).

Hannah Grinwis won a Chester County Art Association Honorable Mention for a pointillism (pen and ink) drawing (shown below).

The award winners were chosen from among entrants from every school in Chester County. This year over 400 young artists had works displayed. Kennett students won two of the ten awards presented for two-dimensional works.

Both young women were students in Mr. Thomas Hironimus' art classes. Several other students have had work published in local newspapers.

The Congressional Art Competi-tion is sponsored by the Chester County Arts in Education Council, U.S. Con-gressman Jim Gerlach (United States House of Representatives, 6th Congres-sional District), Southwest Airlines, and the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

Want to meet new people, get involved in the school and support Kennett High School sports? Then join the Kennett Athletics Booster Club (KABC).

KABC is a volunteer organization of parents, alumni, KCSD staff members and coaches who honor student-athletes, foster student and community enthusi-asm for the teams, support coaches, and raise funds to enrich all Kennett athletic programs. Membership is only $15 per year. KABC meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the high school.

There are many volunteer op-portunities with the Boosters, includ-ing parent representation for teams, athletic apparel sales and fundraising. This is sure to be an exciting year for Kennett sports as we kick off the first season in the new stadium. One of the Boosters' main sources for fundraising is the concession for stadium games, so when you are at the games, stop by and see Kennett's new concession stand and find your brick in the commemora-tive walkway at the front of the stand. Proceeds from the concession stand are used to support all Kennett High School sports teams.

For more information, a member-ship form and information on Kennett apparel, go to the Booster web page. A link is located on the Kennett High School sports page.

President George W. Bush Honors KHS StudentsKennett High School students Ilana Bagel (pictured second to lower left of

the President) and Ian Luft (third left of right center in second row from bottom), members of Team 365 “Miracle Workerz” of MOE (Miracles of Engineering) Robotics Group from Wilmington, Delaware, were recently honored by President George W. Bush for winning the prestigious For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition Championship Chairman’s Award at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.

The team competed against 10,000 students from 23 countries at the FIRST Robotics Competition Championship. This year’s competition required the team to build a robot from a kit of a thousand parts. Teams were tested on building and programming their robots to conduct specific tasks. For example, one task required the robot to lift another robot at least four inches off the floor.

Team 365 “Miracle Workerz” and their robot MOEzilla were awarded the prestigious Chairman’s Award for representing the best model for other teams to follow and for best demonstrating the purpose and goals of FIRST. Following the meet-and-greet at the White House, members of Congress honored the team on Capitol Hill.

The team is unique in that it includes students from a variety of high schools. DuPont, known for being a “Master of Science,” is the team’s founding sponsor and provides the team with workspace in its Barley Mill complex. The company brought the team together from neighboring Delaware and Pennsylvania high schools to pursue science and technology that extends learning beyond the classroom.

Johnson & Johnson’s Bridge to Employment

Celebrates KHS Seniors In late May, fifteen Kennett High

School seniors (Luis Almanza-Fer-nandez, Cristina Castillo-Herrera, Justin Clark, Corey Medina, Char-dai Miller, Lucely Perez, Christen Pizzini, Allie Ramirez-Lemus, Erica Reyes, Corey Rochester, Veronica Tlaseca, Ricardo Thompson, Nicole Vattilano, Jesus Villicana-Avila, and Jose Luis Zavala) and their Centocor mentors marked four years of dedica-tion and perseverance at a celebration dinner at a Challie’s Grill in Kennett Square. As freshmen, these students were selected to participate in Johnson & Johnson’s Bridge to Employment program, a national school-to-career program administered by the Academy for Educational Development. Through the grant-funded program students were assigned mentors from Centocor, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company that de-velops biomedicines, and West Chester University’s Department of Nursing.

Cartoonist Robb Armstrong, creator of the nationally-syndicated comic strip Jump Start, spoke to the students and their guests about his life growing up in West Philadelphia, and using his experiences to encourage the kids to “protect the passion in their life.” “This is a great program. However, it doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t pro-tect your passion … your dreams.”

To help the students achieve their academic dreams, the mentors present-ed each student with a laptop computer at the conclusion of the dinner.

Through academic enrichment, mentorship, job shadowing, and the enhancement of after-school oppor-tunities, students learned about the healthcare industry and developed their skills in communication and leader-ship. “Many of the kids came into the program thinking that they would work in a mushroom house, or at a register at a local store ... I believe the program showed them that there are other pos-sibilities,” said Stephen McCarthy, a molecular biologist at Centocor, and a KHS alumni, Class of 1980, and a mentor who in addition to hosting small groups of students in his lab, accompanied the students on a variety of educational field trips over the last four years.

At the high school Mrs. Sarah Bohrer coordinated the program with the assistance of fellow mentor teach-ers Mrs. Marlo Spritzer, Dr. Alicia Tamargo, Mr. Art Zadrozny and Ms. Anne Carroll.

After Many Yearsof Service . . .

Some of Kennett's most distin-guished and talented personnel retired or resigned after the 2006-2007 aca-demic year.

Wesley S. McDowell, Principal, left Kennett High School after tran-sitioning administrative duties to the new principal. Mr. McDowell served at Kennett as both Assistant Principal and Principal. Prior to his appoint-ment here, he was an administrator and teacher in the Chester Upland School District. His service to education spanned 35 years.

Brigitte Leiling-Fritz, the found-ing faculty member for the teaching of German, and Carol Phillips, a long-time member of the Business Depart-ment, retired in June.

Rick Nelms, Chairperson of the Social Studies Department, resigned in June to go to Coatesville High School where he will teach and coach basket-ball. Also resigning to relocate were mathematics teacher Stacie Timer and science teacher Art Zadrozny. Bob Sabolcik (Reading Specialist) is returning to his previous assignment and Erin Keyser (Special Education) will be pursuing another career.

Jane Cornell has been reassigned to the English as a Second Language group at Greenwood School and ESL instructional assistant Julie Dallet has left to do her student teaching at Mary D. Lang.

All of these members of the ad-ministrative, teaching and support staffs will be missed. Kennett High School is grateful for their service.

The following KHS students were honored for academic excellence at CAT-B and at their home schools at the CAT-B Honors Breakfast on May 10: sophomores Melanie Flores (Cos-metology) and Annmarie Pedicone (Animal Science) and senior Katlin Perigo (Teacher Academy).

Students must earn all A’s and B’s for their marking period grades in order to be eligible for this honor.

Honored as Students of the Fourth Quarter at CAT-B were sophomores Anthony Ciorrocco (Masonry), Ro-berto Hernandez Sanchez (Culinary Arts), and Dimas Rafael Lopez San-toyo (Horticulture). Junior Luis Reyes Fonseca was named in Security and Police Sciences.

AttendanceStudent attendance is important to the Kennett Consolidated School District and to Kennett High School. It is es-

sential for your child’s progress in school. It is important for all school-aged children to attend school every day. Parents are responsible for emphasizing the value of daily attendance and making sure that their children attend school every day. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires children to attend school regularly until they are seventeen years of age.

Examples of excused absences from school are: illness, death in the immediate family and the school buses’ inability to operate in inclement weather. Parents should call the school (610-444-6638) when a student is absent and must send a note excusing that child with an explanation (forms are provided in the flyer section of this newsletter). The note must include date, reason for absence and a parent signature. The note must be received within three school days to excuse that date. If the note is received after three days, the absence will be marked unlawful/unexcused. If a student forgets his or her note, s/he still needs to report to the Attendance Office. After three accumulated unlawful days, a Notice of Violation letter will be sent home. Upon the fourth unlawful absence, a truancy citation will be filed with the district court. Fines and costs can be incurred due to truancy.

Some examples of unlawful/unexcused absences as well as lateness to school are: employment not sanctioned by the school, truancy, parental neglect, oversleeping, missing the bus, private transportation breakdown, shopping, baby-sitting, and staying at home to do school work. In instances when a student’s absences or lateness to school become chronic or irregular the school will require a physician’s note. If a physician’s note is not received within three days of absence, the absence will be unlawful/unexcused. Absence for “personal reasons” needs to be clarified with a clear and substantial explanation to determine the validity of the absence.

Students who elect to not participate in a field trip or school day event are still expected to attend school. Homework and assignments are the responsibility of the student. The student is responsible to obtain all homework, notes, make-up or other work from the teachers. School work and tests missed during unlawful/unexcused absences may not be made up

Attendance Procedures1. When returning to school after an absence, students must report to the Attendance Office immediately upon

arrival in the building.2. The student must submit a written parental note for the absence(s). The student will obtain a readmission slip from

the Attendance Clerk, which must be presented to the student’s homeroom teacher and all classroom teachers. Failure to submit a legal excuse within 3 days of the absence will result in having an unlawful/unexcused absence being recorded. Any excuse which is recognized as a forgery will be unexcused for the time absent and will result in disciplinary action being taken against the student.

3. Any student absent three (3) consecutive days or more due to illness must have a doctor’s note and report to the nurse’s office prior to getting a readmission slip from the Attendance Office.

4. Students absent from school will not be permitted to participate in or attend practices, plays, sports events or activities held after school hours on the day of the absence. Exceptions can be made by the Principal.

Lateness to SchoolStudents are expected to report to school at 7:40 a.m. Students are expected to report to their HOMEROOM by 7:45 a.m. When late to HOMEROOM, the homeroom teacher will add the name of the student to the Late to Homeroom list. If the student does not have a note for being late to homeroom, the homeroom teacher will issue the student a blue slip to serve a detention on the next after school detention. If the student has a note, the homeroom teacher will collect the note and send it to the attendance office. The attendance office will determine if the excuse is legitimate or not. Students arriving late to school from a doctor, dentist or other appointments must bring a note to the ATTENDANCE OFFICE. Students with an unexcused (non-legitimate) late to school will be assigned after school detention for the following school day. Further late-ness to school, refer to the Discipline Policy. Students late AFTER the end of homeroom, must report to the attendance office with a legitimate note and reason for the lateness signed and dated by a parent/guardian.

Planned AbsencesAn Administrator may consider an absence for a family vacation, trips, etc., excused under the following condi-

tions:1. The parent makes a written request to a School Administrator one week prior to the absence that the student must

first submit to the Attendance Office.2. The Attendance Clerk will issue the “Planned Absence Approval Request Form” (2 days or more) which will

specify the terms for completing missed work. The student will then give the letter to the Grade Level Principal.3. At least five school days prior to the absence, the students must obtain the signatures from each teacher on the

Planned Absence Approval Request form.

Some School Time Remindersfrom the Assistant Principals

(continued on next page)

page 8

4. Approval of the planned absence is contingent upon the student arranging in advance for missed work.5. All work assigned prior to the absence is due the date of return.6. Without prior arrangement, the absence is to be judged on the basis of legality not upon the merit of the absence.

The student will not be allowed to make up missed work if the absence is unlawful/unexcused.

Morning Student Drop-OffParents dropping off students in the morning must do so at the new wing and not at the school’s main entrance to

alleviate morning traffic congestion on Union Street and in the school’s upper and lower driveways. The handicap drop off is at the new wing. A crossing guard is assigned to the new wing as well as the main entrance.

Administrative Grade Level AssignmentsThis year Mr. Fernandez is assigned the major responsibilities for the 10th and 12th grade levels while Mrs. Jenkins

is assigned the 9th and 11th grade levels. At any given time, any of the high school administrators can handle any student discipline or issue regardless of the student’s grade level.

Student ParkingThe school has assigned parking spots for eligible randomly selected senior students who previously submitted a

registration form and met the graduation project requirements. Seniors will be notified regarding the status of their parking registration. Students assigned a parking spot are expected to obey all driving and traffic laws on school grounds.

Leaving School Grounds / Going Outside Without Proper AuthorizationThe school wants to emphasize to all students that upon arriving to school in the morning, students are to enter the

school building and are not permitted to leave school grounds to go to the store or any other location. Also, students are not permitted to go outside of any school building without this permission, This includes going to a car to retrieve an item. The only exceptions are when going to the annex, physical education class, or classroom activity. The school wants to ensure that students are not outside of the building for unauthorized reasons or leaving school grounds.

Internet SafetyInternet Safety is a concern and we are taking a proactive approach in order to keep our students safe. On March

30th the school presented an Internet Safety assembly in conjunction with the Kennett Police Department. Your child learned about the DOs and DON'Ts of using the web with a specific emphasis on MySpace.com. We received very positive feedback from students, teacher and parents. We believe that the students were enlightened and will make wiser choices as a result of the information provided. We hope to continue and expand the program as our population continues to change and increase.

Please visit our website http://khs.kcsd.org for more information and helpful tips.If you have any questions about the assembly program or the brochure, please contact Mrs. Jenkins at 610-925-3220

or tjenkins @kcsd.org

Student Code of ConductThis is simply a reminder from the administration that the school is an academic institution and a student’s dress,

behavior and attitude should reflect the positive and respectful atmosphere the school wants to exemplify at all times. Please review the student handbook and adhere to the school’s rules and regulations.

PLEASE CONSULT THE STUDENT HANDBOOK FOR ALL OTHER INFORMATION.

Nurse’s NotesMedication

All medication must be sent to school in the original container or prescription bottle. A note must accompany the medication from the parent/guardian and prescription medications must also have a note from the doctor. With the exception of inhalers and epipens, students may not carry medication in school. All medication will be locked in the nurse’s office and the nurse will dispense medication as needed. Federally controlled medication such as Ritalin and narcotics must be transported to school by a parent or responsible adult and given directly to the school nurse. Students are not permitted to carry controlled substances on the bus or in school at any time. Determined on an individual basis and with consent from the parent and nurse, students may carry an inhaler or epipen. The student’s name should be clearly labeled with permanent marker on the inhaler or epipen.

Guidelines for Keeping a Child HomeAlthough children should attend school on a daily basis, your child should stay home if he/she has the following

signs and symptoms of illness: fever in excess of 100oF (your child should remain at home without a fever for 24 hours before returning to school, without the need for Tylenol or Ibuprofen to keep the fever down); vomiting or diarrhea, head lice (notify the nurse if your child is treated for head lice; your child must be checked before being readmitted to class); conjunctivitis (pink eye - children must be treated with antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours before returning to school); strep throat, bronchitis, or other infectious disease that requires antibiotics (antibiotics must be given for 24 hours before your child returns to school). If you send your child to school when he/she is not feeling well or if your child has sustained an injury at home, please contact the School Nurse, Brooke Mulroy, RN, M.Ed. (610-444-6615).

COLLEGE REP VISITS TO THE GUIDANCE OFFICEThe Guidance Office is pleased to offer students the opportunity to meet with college admissions representatives from schools throughout our region. We believe that spending time with an admissions representative provides students with an excellent opportunity to gather information about various colleges. The visits also provide excellent opportunities for the admissions representatives to get to know our students on a personal level. Starting this school year, colleges will have the opportunity to schedule visitations at various times throughout the school day. Students can view those times in the Guid-ance Calendar section of the Guidance Website. Students wishing to visit with a college representative must first obtain permission and a pass from the teacher if they will be meeting with the college rep during their class time.

PSAT/NMSQT We are announcing a change in the KHS administration of the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholar-ship Qualifying Test. The PSAT/NMSQT will be administered to students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades on Wednesday, October 17, at Kennett High School. Students will not be responsible for the cost of the test. The PSAT is especially im-portant for juniors who plan to attend a post-secondary institution because it is considered a practice test for the SAT. The PSAT/NMSQT is also the best route for consideration for the National Merit Scholarship Program, the National Achieve-ment Scholarship for Outstanding Negro Students, and the National Recognition Program for Hispanic Students. More information regarding the test and its administration will be sent home at a later date.

A limited number of registration materials are available in the Guidance Office. At no extra cost, students are given the opportunity to send their SAT scores to four colleges of their choice when they register to take the SAT. This is important because SAT scores are NOT included on transcripts to colleges. Please ensure that your child gives careful thought to this step of the registration process and that he/she completes it thoroughly.

APPLICATIONS TO POST HIGH SCHOOL INSTITUTIONSYou can help speed applications on their way. You need to obtain and complete the application either by submitting it online, downloading the application or requesting a paper application from the college. a signed release form; any attachments such as essays and/or a list of activities; and a stamped, addressed envelope. It is not necessary to put a return address in the upper left-hand corner of the envelope. If a recommendation is needed, the student should make arrangements with the writer and provide him/her with a stamped, addressed envelope. Students must also arrange to have their SAT scores sent to the schools to which they are applying. This can be done at no extra cost while initially registering to take the SAT. It can also be accomplished at a later time by visiting the College Board website (listed above) or by obtaining an additional score report form from the Guidance Office. This is an important step for students to complete because the Guidance Office can no longer supply this information to colleges. The student’s transcript and related materials are mailed directly to the institution. It is important that deadlines are noted and all individuals and offices are given enough time to prepare their materials in a care-ful manner. Ten days to two weeks is a reasonable amount of time for materials to be processed. Please note that the school district will be closed November 22 through November 26 for Thanksgiving. Applications should be in the Guidance Office by November 1 to allow time for processing for December 1 deadlines. Please note that the school district will be closed December 22, through January 1 for the Winter Holiday. Therefore, applications with early January deadlines must be in the Guidance Office by December 1 to allow time for processing.

ATHLETICS IN COLLEGEAre you planning to participate in Division I or II athletics in college? If so, the NCAA Initial Eligibility Form must be completed during senior year. The NCAA Clearinghouse will certify the eligibility of students for any program in the coun-try. Students need to download, print out and bring in to the Guidance Office the online Release Copy 1 and Release Copy 2 transcript request sheets. Release Copy 1 transcript request sheet will be sent to the NCAA Clearinghouse with the student’s transcript at the time it is given to the Guidance Office. Release Copy 2 transcript request sheet should also be given to the Guidance Office at the same time. This authorizes the Guidance Office to send the student’s final transcript to the Clearinghouse at the end of his/her senior year. There are no NCAA forms available in the Guidance Office. All registration forms are to be completed online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.

DRIVER’S EDUCATIONDriver’s education will not be offered as a part of Kennett High School’s cur-riculum; however, arrangements have been made with the Chester County Inter-mediate Unit to provide driver’s education. Students may register for this course by completing a form available in the high school Main Office or by calling the Intermediate Unit at 484-237-5055. Forms may also be downloaded at www.cciu.org Classes will tentatively be conducted after school, in the evening or on Saturdays either at Kennett High School or at Avon Grove High School.

Notes & News from the Athletic DepartmentAthletic Complex Construction Project Updates

The KHS Athletic Complex Construction Project has been occurring on time and by the time you read this, we are very hopeful that the project will have met the target completion dates. The new multi-use synthetic turf field (football, soccer, field hockey & lacrosse) is complete, while the new synthetic track, the new 2500 seating capacity bleachers and renovations to the existing field house, along with an addition to the field house should all be complete by mid-August. The new concession stand should be complete by the end of August. An opening ceremony/ribbon cutting ceremony is being organized to occur before the kickoff of the first home football game, Saturday,

September 15. Please be on the lookout for more information about this ceremony (which will be publicized more as we get closer), but please mark the date and join us to see what a great facility we will now have for our athletes and our community!

The tennis courts (resurfacing of the existing 6 courts along with the addition of 2 courts and new fencing and bleach-ers) and the parking lot addition in front of KHS should be complete by mid-August. The improvements/renovations to the field in front of the District Offices and the baseball field should be complete by the end of September. The tract at the Yeatman Property is still in the planning stages with the necessary governmental agencies and is proceeding accordingly.

HomecomingHomecoming week is the week of October 8. Please note that Homecoming will be different from the past. First,

the date is later in the school year. Second, Homecoming will not be just one day, but it will be a Homecoming Week, starting on Monday, October 8, with many events and games throughout the week and the actual crowning of the King & Queen at the football game on Saturday, October 13.

Kennett Athletic Booster ClubThe Kennett Athletic Booster Club (KABC) meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month (except no meeting in July

and in August, they meet on the 3rd Wednesday) in room #102. Come out, join and attend the meetings to help support our student-athletes.

General Athletic Questions? If any athletic questions ever arise, please feel free to contact the Athletic Director, Jeff Thomas, at 610-444-6632

or [email protected].

You can still be a part of Kennett History! Our Pave The Way Fundraiser has been a tremendous success. We are happy to report that we have sold over 250 bricks including ALL of the 12x12 granite bricks. Our first order of bricks are in place but we have many more to sell! This will be an ongoing effort until all bricks are engraved. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Come see the patio in front of the new concession stand at the stadium to either view your brick or see a sample of your options for ordering. You’ll want to be a part of this history in the making. Create a legacy, honor someone special, remember a loved one, recognize your favorite KHS graduate, show your family pride, or demonstrate your community support by purchasing engraved bricks. The options are endless!

Money raised from this project will support athletic programs at the high school. With the various field improvements, there are rising needs. KABC hopes to be able to support many of those needs with this fundraiser.

Order forms are available at www.kcsd.org. Contact Dottie Buttafogo at 610-388-2670 or e-mail [email protected] for our next order date or with any questions.
