A visually and musically stimulating show, tailor-made for Early Years. This beautiful piece touches on themes of identity and reflection within its very young audience, through intuition, curiosity, awkwardness, vitality and wonder. Dance, rhythm and object manipulation are at the heart of Geminus, combining gestures, sounds and mirrors to create a playful and intriguing dance piece.

Standing facing the mirror I’m just ahead of meThis reflection – is it really me or another me?

It’s quite like me, it moves the same, well, almost...Unless it’s you, right in front of me!

And if it’s you, would you like to play with me?

Geminus, a new dance work forchildren aged 3-5 and their families, is a result of the DD2 Early Years Interactive Commission. The Somerset dates form the longest leg of an extensive tour of both England and France.

Geminus has been commissioned by DanSCe Dialogues 2 – a project selected within the context of the European programme of crossborder cooperation Interreg IV A France (Channel) – England, co-financed by ERDF.

“Geminus was created and developed in the context of DanSCe Dialogues 2. The first stage was for two of our choreographers to present work-in-progress at an artists’ salon event in Brighton, then we were commissioned to develop the piece for Early Years. The company spent a week in R&D in the creation space of DD2 partners The Point in Eastleigh, the outcome of which was that our piece, Geminus, was selected to be produced, made and toured.”Compagnie Ubi - Rennes, France

Using movement to inspire play into playMonday 2 June, 4-6pm Butleigh Primary School

For EY practitioners interested in making the most of performance opportunities and exploring wider links to the Early Years Foundation Stage.

See the new show Geminus from French Compagnie Ubi at 2:30pm and follow a short post-show discussion with refreshments, networking and a two-hour practical session. This fun and practical twilight session will explore ways of integrating creative ideas into your setting, using ideas from the Geminus show and demonstrating the infinite creative possibilities for movement stories in Early Years. Using movement, music, sensory experiences, the imagination and play, the session will resonate

throughout the EYFS principles and will particularly explore how the three Characteristics of Effective Learning and the Prime Area of Physical Development can be explored in practice. The course will be lead by Hannah Lefeuvre, (EYP, MA - Dist.) Dance and Early Years specialist: www.danceearlyyears.co.ukPlease wear something comfortable that you can move in. No previous experience necessary, just an open mind and willingness to have fun.

Colours and lights in EYWednesday 4 June, 4-5:30pm Pre-Prep Hall, Taunton School

See Three Colours at 2pm, and follow a short post-show discussion with refreshments, networking and a 1.5 hour practical session.

Led by Norwich Puppet Theatre Director Joy Haynes and the Three Colours creative team, this session will offer EY practitioners an opportunity to explore elements used in the production including different light sources, use of space, movement and sound. We will play together and consider how we may incorporate these elements into work with young children. No previous performance experience is necessary to participate.

Three Colours was developed in collaboration with Polka Theatre and nursery-age children from two first

schools in Norwich, who inspired us with their insights and responses to the colours of light – red, green and blue – helping us devise ways to imaginatively use materials and the medium.

Booking for this InspirED session is essential - there are just 12 places, from £25 per head. To book a placecontact Katy Tilley:[email protected]
