Week 6 – 27th
May 2015 Sharing Our News
Even the Rain Couldn’t Stop Cracker Night!
The staffroom at lunchtime on Friday was the scene of some very
serious conversations and some very worried faces. The heavens had
opened up spilling 13mm of rain onto our very dedicated team of
volunteers and staff who were putting things together for Cracker Night.
Thankfully after many phone conversations and a lot of checking
weather reports it was decided that Cracker Night should go ahead.
Well, thankfully it did and for those families who came along it was a
wonderful occasion. This year’s event was a roaring success despite
the weather. Our school and our school community once again showed
that when working together we can achieve outstanding results and
overcome adversity in doing so. It was marvellous to see many people
who have worked on Cracker Night sharing their experience and also
great to see new faces bringing in new ideas and improving on an
already worthwhile community event.
King Street Children Undefeated Arguers!
Yesterday Ms Gay took 2 teams of senior students to Singleton Heights
Public School for a debating gala day. Both teams took part in short
debating sessions against other schools with one of our teams walking
away undefeated. Well done to all those students who took part. The
ability to respectfully and accurately articulate your beliefs, values,
knowledge and opinions is a key factor for success in most adult
pursuits.
PBL Team Developing a Home for Kindness in our School.
This morning with the guidance and leadership of Mrs Barry the PBL
team began planning for classroom lessons around the purpose and
use of our new “Buddy Chair.” The aim of these lessons is to teach all
of our children firstly that this chair is a place you can go if you are not
feeling happy for whatever reason and secondly that people who are
sitting on the chair need our kindness and support. We are looking
forward to seeing how this helps us move towards instilling our school
values of Kind, Safe, Proud and Supportive in all of our children.

Weather Clears up
for Cracker Night
2015 Cracker Night has
come and gone.
The weather finally
turned for us and gave
us a dry and wind free
night although a bit cold.
The fireworks once again
were amazing and
enjoyed by the whole community. KSPS had a great
festive feel and the looks on the many faces was of
pure enjoyment.
The King Street P&C would like to thank all of the
helpers that were involved in making this such an
amazing event. The parent, teachers, children and
extended family involvement was brilliant. We had
some new activities, food outlets and entertainment
this year and these were enthusiastically received.
Events such as Cracker Night are undertaken so we
can raise funds to provide additional resources for
your child’s education, so we value your support and
feedback. Thank you to the following groups,

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea- Supporting
the NSW Cancer Council
There would be very few people who have not had
family members, friends, colleagues or
acquaintances impacted by cancer.
Having recently experienced this “journey” myself I
am well aware of the affect it has on peoples lives
and their families. This disease does not
discriminate between male and female or young and
old.
Once again King Street Public School will support
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. On Friday 5th June
we will be holding a cake/slice/toffee stall. Donations
can be taken to Mrs Kermodes classroom.
Alternatively, if you wish to make a monetary
donation this can be done at the office where an
official receipt can be issued.
Note: Please be aware of our peanut allergy policy.
Thank you for your anticipated support.
Kerry Kermode
Did you get to Dunk-a-Dad?
There were 3 very brave dad’s at Cracker night who
offered (that is, were nominated by their wives) to
put their bodies on the line in the Dunk Tank.
Thank you to Mr Evans, Mr Morgan and Mr Foster
for braving the cold weather to help the school
community.
Canteen to Host Another Hot Dog Day
The canteen has excess stock bought for Cracker
Night; therefore we would like to offer students
another Hot Dog Day. This will be on Monday 15th
June. Please fill in the order form below and return
to the canteen by Friday 12th June.
REMINDER At King Street School we
have a policy endorsed by the WHS
Committee (Work, Health, and Safety)
that no animals are to be on school grounds.
The only exception would be if they are brought in
for “Show & Tell” and taken home immediately after
by parents. It has been noted that some parents are
bringing dogs to school with them when dropping
and collecting children. We would ask that these
parents cease this practice for the safety of the
children at our school.
Thank you

4 Road Safety Information
For the safety of our children, we would like to remind motorists of the various RTA signs that surround our
school. For your convenience we have included some information from the RTA website:
To further ensure the safety of our children, the P&C has erected signs on the Sussex
street fences to remind drivers of the drop off/pick up area. These signs indicate the
areas where the zone starts and finishes.
If you are stopping in this zone you must remain within 3 metres of your car, and
you may only stop for 2 minutes. This means you can pull up, get out and collect
school bags from your boot or backseat, kiss your child then depart. We would
appreciate it if all motorists could use this zone correctly, as it would maintain smooth
traffic flow in Sussex Street, and help to keep our children safe.
