Update Your Beneficiaries

Sometimes it is easy to overlook the

the challenges of the Protestant

Reformation St Pius V is best known for

publishing the Roman Catechism In 1870 the

American Bishops published the Baltimore

Catechism with the approval of the pope St

Pius IX In1992 the pope St John Paul II

published the Cathechism of the Catholic

Church These popes embraced the truth that

Jesus is the only Son of God and their lives

were a proclamation of this truth of our faith

Pope Francis proclaims this same truth today

especially to the poor My Brother Knights

let us pray for the grace to follow the

examples of the saintly popes If we do it we

too will embrace the words of the responsorial

psalm for todays liturgy from Psalm 34 The

simplest of things

Take for example the beneficiaries onyour life insurance policies If your policywas applied for and issued several yearsago it may very well be that the personyou originally selected as the beneficiaryis no longer the person you would want toreceive the policy proceeds If youbought the policy when you were singlefor example you may have named yourparents as beneficiaries If you havesince married your policies should beupdated to reflect your spouse asbeneficiary Maybe yoursquove had childrensince who are not named on the policies

Most people list a primary beneficiarywho is specifically designated as the firstin priority to receive policy proceeds Wealso encourage the naming of acontingent beneficiary an alternateperson designated to receive policyproceeds usually in the event that theoriginal beneficiary pre-deceases theinsured

I routinely call all of my policyholders forannual review appointments usually nearthe anniversary date of your policy ndash that

Our PrinciplesAll the good works we do are informed by our four core principles

Charity - Our Catholic faith teaches us to ldquoLove thy neighbor as thyselfrdquo Membersof the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drivesand donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries by volunteering atSpecial Olympics and by supporting both spiritually and materially mothers whochoose life for their babies Knights recognize that our mission and our faith inGod compels us to action There is no better way to experience love andcompassion than by helping those in need a call we answer every day

Unity ndash None of us is as good as all of us Members of the Knights of Columbus allknow that ndash together ndash we can accomplish far more than any of us couldindividually So we stick togetherhellipwe support one another That doesnrsquot mean that

individually So we stick togetherhellipwe support one another That doesnrsquot mean thatwe always agree or that there is never a difference of opinion It does mean that ndashas a Knight of Columbus ndash you can count on the support and encouragement ofyour brother Knights as you work to make life better in your parish and community

Fraternity ndash The Venerable Michael J McGivney founded the Knights of Columbusin large part to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when thefamily breadwinner died ndash often prematurely The Orderrsquos top-rated insuranceprogram continues to do this today as do individual Knights who last year gavemore than 10 million hours of their time to assist sick andor disabled members andtheir families In the Knights of Columbus we watch out for and take care of oneanother

Patriotism ndash Members of the Knights of Columbus be they Americans CanadiansMexicans Cubans Filipinos Poles or Dominicans are patriotic citizens We areproud of our devotion to God and country and believe in standing up for bothWhether itrsquos in public or private the Knights remind the world that Catholics supporttheir nations and are amongst the greatest citizens

Update Your Beneficiaries

Sometimes it is easy to overlook the

the challenges of the Protestant

Reformation St Pius V is best known for

publishing the Roman Catechism In 1870 the

American Bishops published the Baltimore

Catechism with the approval of the pope St

Pius IX In1992 the pope St John Paul II

published the Cathechism of the Catholic

Church These popes embraced the truth that

Jesus is the only Son of God and their lives

were a proclamation of this truth of our faith

Pope Francis proclaims this same truth today

especially to the poor My Brother Knights

let us pray for the grace to follow the

examples of the saintly popes If we do it we

too will embrace the words of the responsorial

psalm for todays liturgy from Psalm 34 The

Lord hears the cry of the poor blessed be the

Lord

simplest of things

Patriotism ndash Members of the Knights of Columbus be they Americans CanadiansMexicans Cubans Filipinos Poles or Dominicans are patriotic citizens We areproud of our devotion to God and country and believe in standing up for bothWhether itrsquos in public or private the Knights remind the world that Catholics supporttheir nations and are amongst the greatest citizens

simplest of things

Gratefully

is the date it was originally issued Oneof the matters that Irsquoll discuss during thisreview is the status of your beneficiarydesignations If they need updating andthey often do I can complete thepaperwork during that appointment

I look forward to meeting with each of youto discuss your familyrsquos needs
