KOC recently organized the 3rd IT Exhibition in the presence of the Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, who congratulated the Management of the Company for adopting the latest information technologies in order to develop its operations and improve its services.

KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid recently said that the Company spared no efforts in enhancing communication with contractors and suppliers, bearing in mind to foster constructive cooperation in the Company’s quest for the required excellence in performance, in conformity with its strategic goals.He described the 5th Annual Town Hall Meeting Between KOC and Contractors, recently held at Mishref International Fairgrounds, as “An opportunity to reinforce the public’s culture and awareness about oil matters, getting them acquainted with the activities of the Company and exchange points of view.”KOC is intended to implement a number of major projects in next five years with a total cost of KD 2.9 billion, taking into account to support the Public Sector companies and their respective role in oil activities, and to rehabilitate a larger number of local enterprises in rare oil specialisations to raise to the standards of major international companies.

In a related development, KNPC DC&DMD for Planning and Local Marketing, Bakheet Al-Rasheedi, said that sharing experiments was fruitful and useful to oil sector companies and providers and that they consolidated mutual trust and future work opportunities. KOC Commercial Support Group Manager, Ibrahim Faraj, in his speech stressed the Company’s firm tendency to implement its works and projects by expert and skilled contractors and providers, based on its keenness to observe the safety and performance of our oil installations, to avoid exposing them to hazards and to bear in mind HSE norms and regulations upon contracting them.While over 100 specialised local and international companies took part in the three-day Exhibition and 22 working papers were presented during the event that was also attended by representatives from a number of embassies, trading sections and universities, one of its main characteristics was total transparency and direct dialogue between contractors and the KOC Senior Management.

KOC Participates in MEOS 2013KOC C&MD presents paper during plenary session

Safety Day for Musab Ibn Omair Intermediate School for BoysOrganized by Purchasing & Materials Management Group

KOC participated in the 18th Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference (MEOS 2013) which was held in the Kingdom of Bahrain recently and lasted for three days. The theme of the conference was “Transforming the Energy Future.”

In the conference’s Executive Plenary Session, head of the KOC delegation, Chairman & Managing Director Sami Al-Rushaid, touched on the future challenges facing the oil and gas industry. He shared with the audience KOC’s contribution towards meeting the growth in energy demand.

KOC delegates participated in MEOS with a large number of scientific papers, in addition to the participation of DMD South & East Kuwait Hashim Hashim as a member of the Executive Committee of the conference and the participation of a number of KOC managers as session moderators.It is worth mentioning that MEOS is held bi-annually in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and is considered one of the most important oil and gas scientific conferences in the region. More than 200 technical papers and poster presentations were designed to share the knowledge and experience of managing, operating and supplying companies over the three day event. An associated “Premier Oil & Gas Show in Middle East” was opened on March 11, which demonstrated the latest products and services in the oil industry. KOC was one of the major participating companies in the show, alongside other major oil companies from GCC countries as well as a number of international companies.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, the Purchasing & Materials Management Group recently organized a Safety Day for school students. The Group hosted a number of students from Musab Ibn Omair Intermediate School for Boys located in Ahmadi.Acting Group Manager and Senior Safety Engineer Faisal Al-Mutairi delivered a speech in which he welcomed the students and teachers and stressed the importance of abiding by safety measures and the need to spread this culture in the society. He added that this event was organized by the group as part of its commitment toward the community, noting that any nation which seeks development should pay great attention to safety. After that, Senior Safety Engineer Faisal Al-Khudhari made a presentation on the importance of safety at home, school, work and on the street.

Students were surprised when they were told that studies show that most accidents may take place at homes.Then the students were divided into five groups where a contest was held on general information and prizes were distributed to members of the winning group.After that, the students visited the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Display Center where they were introduced to types of clothing and shoes worn by KOC employees and were briefed about the importance of these clothes to keep them safe. They were also briefed about some of the equipment used in the extraction of oil and saw some of the valves that can be installed on pipelines and wells such as the “Christmas Tree.”

KOC Firefighting Team Displays Live ShowOrganized by General Firefighting Dept. at Sharq Mall

The KOC Firefighting Team organized live shows for the public for three consecutive days at Sharq Mall. Firefighters stormed real fires during a distinctive participation in the celebration of The 11th Firefighter Day, organized by the General Firefighting Department, in the attendance of KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid.The event was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of State for Municipality Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah, who maintained that firefighters sacrifice themselves for preserving the safety of people. The Technical Services Directorate Q&HSE Team’s Environment Engineer Hamad Al-Mebayedh recently delivered a technical research paper titled: “Climate Changes and Its Effects on the Arab World” during the International Conference on Environmental Science and Development – ICESD 2013 in Dubai, UAE. The paper discusses the effects of climate change, and goes into the numerous challenges that must be overcome within the oil and energy sector in order to keep up with these changes. The paper also discusses the ways in which coordinating the area’s resources to implement comprehensive changes can be accomplished.The presentation was warmly welcomed by specialist of Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES), who showed real interest in sharing the best practices learned from the KOC Q&HSE working paper.

KOC recently organized an Open Day for the children of the Family Care Department of the Ministry of Social Affairs & Labor. The Company’s T&CD Group organized the Open Day activities in a humanitarian initiative intended to serve this part of the society and provide them with the necessary support they require.T&CD Group Manager Saad Al-Azmi underlined in his speech that the initiative falls in line with KOC’s commitment to its obligations toward society and its firm belief in the importance of contributing to its development and enhancing opportunities for its advancement and welfare.He affirmed that the role of KOC was not limited to the exploration, production and export of oil and gas, but goes far beyond that to encompass the social, humanitarian and environmental aspects, based on the importance accorded by the Company to human resources, the real wealth of the country.In a speech she delivered, Children’s Care House Supervisor Haifaa Al-

The Standards Team of the Support Services Group recently organized a

farewell party for Senior Engineer Shubindo Kumar, who served KOC for

more than 16 years.

Standards Team Leader Hamza Ahmed, HSE Ag. Team Leader Faisal

Mirza, and a number of Kumar’s colleagues delivered speeches during the

party, in which they praised Kumar and valued the exceptional services he

provided to the team during his tenure. They also appreciated his frankness,

commitment and contributions to the various activities of the team.

In conclusion, a commemorative gift was presented to Kumar while everyone

wished him success in future.

KOC Conducts a Fire DrillDrill ensures readiness of concerned teams to deal with emergencies

Standards Team Bid Farewell to Shubindo KumarKumar served the Company for more than 16 years

KOC recently conducted a fire drill that simulated a scenario in which a fire broke out at one of the Company’s oil gathering centers.

Deputy Managing Director (S&EK) Hashim Hashim said that firemen dealt with the mock fire which posited a scenario in which one individual died and five workers from a contracting company were injured.

He explained that the mock fire broke out due to an oil leak in the desalting unit and affected the heating unit at Gathering Center No. 20.

Hashim pointed out that work was immediately stopped in the center and a state of emergency was declared while the Company’s fire brigade was called. He added that ambulance teams from Ahmadi Hospital rushed to the scene to provide first aid to the injured workers and transferred serious injuries to the hospital to receive necessary treatment.

He confirmed that the mock oil leak was shut down and the fire was controlled, noting that the fire drill is part of the company’s plan to ensure the readiness of its concerned teams to deal with possible emergencies.
