The Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Spirit of Vocations: Our Parish Family

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Patrick: A few weeks ago, I was able to attend an awesome conference on the spiritual life sponsored by our good friend, Dr. Mary Amore, and Mayslake Ministries. The keynote speaker was Robert Morneau, the present pastor of Resurrection Parish in Green Bay, Wisconsin and retired Auxiliary Bishop of that same diocese. “In my youth” as they say, Bishop Morneau was one of my Professors at Notre Dame University during the summer of 1991. Now at 80 years young, he is still as passionate, wise, and fun-filled as he was back then, maybe even more so. During his presentation, he had a “slide” of himself standing on Lambeau field, home of the Green Bay Packers, throwing a football to one of the Packers players to begin the Bishop’s Charity Football Game to raise funds for the needy and those using the assistance of various programs sponsored by Catholic Charities. I loved the picture, the fun spirit portrayed at the event, and most importantly Jesus’ message emphasized by Bishop Morneau that the “joy of the Gospel” is done through the way we are called to be good stewards of the many blessings God has shared with us. During the break, of course, I couldn’t resist – the banter began between us as I reminded the good Bishop of my cousin, Gary Fencik, and the Super Bowl Bears of 1986. Above, please find the latest version of my portrait atop the Pastor’s Column. I hope it brings a chuckle to you as you now have the background “behind the story” and the new picture. I intend to have Sue, my secretary, send a copy “hot off the presses” to Bishop Morneau so that he could enjoy how he continues to inspire this former student of his, and so that he might see how we strive as a parish family to be good stewards of God’s blessings to those most in need. In my name, in the name of our Pastoral Staff, and our parish family, I want to extend to Father Brian and the good people of St. Alphonsus our deepest condolences as they mourn the loss of their beloved Parish Secretary, Roseann Lucas. Roseann was always a smiling presence to greet you personally at the front door at St. Alphonsus Office and that friendly voice on the phone that seemingly knew just “what to say” to make you feel better. Roseann, always a consummate professional, and woman of class, loved her vocation as a Parish Secretary, loved the people she was called to serve and loved the Lord as a true woman of faith. Roseann, you will be deeply missed! May you now rest in peace, good and faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Next Wednesday, November 1st, we will celebrate All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation in our Catholic Faith Tradition. We will celebrate the 8am Mass here st St. Patrick on the actual Feast Day. The Mass schedule at our neighboring parishes is listed on page 3 of this bulletin for your convenience. The following day, Thursday, November 2nd, we will have a special All Souls Day Mass, beginning at 7:30pm in our church. The Mass will be hosted by the members of our Ministry of Consolation Team here at St. Patrick, led by our own Deacon Joe Winblad and team members Barb Brown,

Ollie Capra, Andy O’Donnell, and Ralph and Lila Mancini. At this special liturgy, we welcome all who had loved ones buried from our parish this last year and all those who suffered the loss of a loved one this past year no matter where the funeral was celebrated. We will remember all those who inspired us while they lived among us here on earth and carry their “lights” forever with us in our hearts and into the world as we continue our journey with the Lord of all life, love and hope. Lastly, next Sunday, November 5th, I will be celebrating the monthly 10 am Children’s Liturgy. The theme of my reflections will center on Thanksgiving and what should we all say “thank you” to God for in our lives during this past year. Just a little “heads up” to all my young people; crayons will be available during my homily. See you then!

God’s blessings of hope and peace,

October 9th 2017 Dear St. Patrick Men’s Club, Thank you and St. Patrick Parish for supporting our St. Blase Supper Program. You have made a great commitment to Catholic Charities and to those we serve. These suppers have become a lifeline to those who come to eat. Eating a nourishing meal in a dignified and respectful setting helps our guests deal with the issues they are facing. Your support is so crucial in continuing this program. Our guests are aware that we rely on donations. This awareness that people are concerned about their welfare gives them comfort and hope. Sincerely, Msgr. Michael M. Boland—President

ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO Office of the Archbishop www.archchicago.org October, 2017 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On behalf of our brothers and sisters who have been severely affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, it is my wish to sincerely thank you for the tremendous outpouring of support you have shown them during this challenging time. Banding together to answer the cry of those in need, the Archdiocese of Chicago community has seamlessly partnered with Catholic Charities USA, local parishes, and schools to bring financial, physical, and spiritual aid to those who have lost so much in the Gulf Coast. September collections raised more than $600,000 for these efforts, a true testament to the compassion of the people of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Now it is time once again to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters affected by natural disasters that have occurred over the last few weeks, including Hurricane Maria and the earthquakes in Mexico. As requested by the USCCB, all parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago are invited to take up collections [ ]. To donate, please visit http://pvm.archchicago.org/hurricane or mail contributions to the following address. Please make checks payable to the Natural Disaster Emergency Appeal. ATTN: Natural Disaster Emergency Appeal 3525 South Lake Park Ave Chicago IL 60653 It is my prayer that we continue to support those affected by these natural disasters through both prayer and action. With every good wish, I remain, Sincerely yours in Christ, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich Archbishop of Chicago

St. Patrick’s of Lemont continues to support the Deacons of the Archdiocese efforts to assist the people devastated by natural disasters which seem relentless in devastating our world during the past few months. If you wish to continue supporting

Catholic Charities partners with Meals on Wheels America to provide a noontime meal for those who are home-bound or unable to prepare their own food due to physi-cal or mental difficulties. Many of our Meals-on-Wheels clients see only one person per day—our volunteers. Many of them would be unable to live independently without home-delivered meals. Volunteers are needed throughout Lake County, but the need is greatest right now in Fox Lake, Wauconda, and Mundelein. This is a great role for a group or individual who has a few hours once a week or once a month. Substitute and seasonal volunteers are needed as well!
