TRANSCRIPT
I hope you all had a happy and comfortable winter, wherever you spent it. Summer is right around the corner and brings with it all the special events, as well as the regular, easy lake life we all love. There are a few things going on that I want all of you to know about.
The major concern of the board is the cost of lake maintenance. The lake is our biggest and most important asset so the budget proposal we are asking you to approve includes a $20 per lot association dues increase, starting this year. If you own one lot, this represents approximately 5 cents per day, and the owners of the most lots (20) will be paying approximately $1 per day.
This is the first dues increase the board has suggested in the past 5 years, and to continue the quality of life on and around the lake we feel that this is reasonable to ask of everyone.
We have three openings for Board positions up for election this year. This is your chance to further improve our great lake experience by serving as a Board member. If you are interested, please have a 50 word or less resume to Carol in the office by May 4th.
Many residents who saw the pavilion for the first time at Winterfest were amazed at the quality of materials and workmanship. The cost so far has been through donations ONLY. No money has been taken from the General Fund. Current plans are to complete the project through dona-tions.
We have many volunteers for all of our activities, and can always use more. Our community constantly grows and becomes more active. Becoming involved is a great way to meet new friends and contribute to the community. We want to thank all of you who volunteer to help in any activity, but I especially want to recognize the following for their leadership and organiza-tional abilities--
Joannie Van Antwerp-Activities Committee Chairperson
Bob Gollehur-Men's Committee Chairperson
Tom Lukosavich-Fish Committee Chairperson

Should I fertilize the lawn? All property owners should understand the environmental considerations of their lawn maintenance activities. Fertilizing your lawn can provide that Arnold Palmer lawn, but what you put on your lawn can be det-rimental to our lake. The three main components of turf fertilizers are nitro-gen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) (potash). A fertilizer labeled 20-5-15 contains 20 percent nitrogen, 5 percent phosphorus, and 15 percent potash by weight. Nitrogen is part of the chlorophyll molecule, which gives plants their green color and is involved in creating food for the plant through photosynthesis and is an essential nutrient for all plant growth. Phosphorus is a common component and an essential nutrient for plants. However, when too much phospho-rus makes its way into the lake, it promotes the rapid
and decreases water clarity. Consider this – 1 lb. Of phosphorus in runoff can result in 500 POUNDS of algae growth! Decaying algae also depletes oxygen in the water, so that fish can no longer thrive. It's important for lakefront property owners and residents to minimize phosphorus input into the lake. The last component in fertilizer is potassium (potash). Potassium helps regulate plant metabolism and affects water pressure regulation inside and outside of plant cells. It is important for good root development. So when spring yard maintenance rolls around, consider the impact you will have on our lake by choosing a fertil-izer with high phosphorus content. The easiest solution to this? Buy the fertilizer offered through LOSRA! It has 0 phosphorus and comes in a 50 lb. bag.

April 2013 MEMORIALS
We want to honor those residents who have passed
away during the past year. We have listed the ones that
we know of, but we really have no reliable method of re-
cording these facts. We don’t want to leave anyone out,
so if you know of a friend or neighbor who was a resident
of Lake Ogemaw, please call the office and let Carol
know, so we can remember them.

2013 AQUATIC PESTICIDE TREAT-
MENT NOTICE
The treatment notice and information is available on the LOSRA website and in the association office. Initial approx treatment date will be middle May to early June.
Some postings may be done in advance. How many days in advance will vary between lakes. There is an AD-VANCED POSTING box on the poster that will be checked in the event of an advanced posting. If the box is not checked, the applica-tion will be made on the same day as the posting. Posters will be attached to trees, posts, decks, docks and other vertical objects along the immediate shore-line.
If riparian property owners choose not to have the post-ers affixed to their personal property may have alterna-tive postings. Within 30 feet of the immediate shoreline, you may supply your own bright YELLOW painted sup-porting device (stake) at least 30 inches tall and the posters will be stapled to that dev ice. Go to www.aquaticservicesinc.info the SCHEDULES page to find out when the pesticide
applications are to be made.

Welcome back snowbirds. I hope everyone had safe and happy holidays.
The fish plant for 2012 was completed on Novem-ber 3rd with the planting of 200 Red Ear Sunfish (shell crackers) at 4” to 6”; 1200 Largemouth Bass at 6” to 7”; and 250 Walleye at 6” to 8”.
The fish plant for this year (2013) will be determined at Fish Committee meetings throughout the sum-mer. Input from Association members is welcome.
The first event of 2013 will be the Adult Fishing Con-test. The contest will run from Saturday, May 25th until 9 p.m. on Friday, August 30th. Entry fee is $5.00 and can be obtained at Ka-jac’s, Lake Oge-maw Marina, and the Club House.
The 19th annual Kid’s Fishing Derby is on Saturday, June 8th.
This is also “free fishing” weekend in Michigan and no license is required. Do-nations for prizes will be greatly appreciated.
The 5th annual Lake Oge-maw Bass Tournament is currently scheduled for Sat-urday, August 10th.
More information will be supplied at a later date.
A word of caution, please check your Michigan Fishing Regulation book for 2013 for any changes on northern pike. I have not seen the new regula-tions for this year as of March 1st.
Winners of the Winterfest fishing contests were: Connor Ackerman age 11 with a seven inch blue gill. Spencer Ackerman age 8 caught a 20 1/4 inch pike.
This large mouth bass was caught the 3rd weekend in January by 10 yr old Sean Knieper, grandson of Mike and Pat Durston of 1972 Indianwood Tr. A 6” hole had to be cut larger to get it out of the ice! The bass was quickly released back into the water to be caught again another day.
Get those rods and reels ready. Summer will be here before you know it, and we hope to have an-other very successful fishing season.
New members for the Fish Committee are welcome.
