If you're already longing for summer to return so you can start planning your next cacation you might consider a fun weekend get away with the family.

Q: Are there nice places close by for a family friendly weekend? A: Yes, my husband and I just embarked on an extended

weekend trip to Seaworld in San Antonio with our girls. Although our trip consisted mostly of Shamu and waterslides our hotel was really kid friendly and we would’ve been happy hanging out there all day. We stayed at the Hilton San Antonio Hill Country Hotel Resort and Spa and before you start thinking “that’s too expensive” it actually was pretty reasonable. My husband was diligent about looking for good deals and lower rates and was able to book our room on priceline.com for $119 per night. This understated resort featured two swimming pools, basketball court, spa and nice in-room amenities. There were daily kid’s camps, nightly activities and an

Kristina’s Korneroutdoor movie each night on their patio. The most unique activity we experienced was the cute s’more making kit that could be purchased at the front desk for $5, which included all the items needed to make a delicious treat even the stick to roast the marshmallows in one of their safely burning fire pits. There are other similar resorts around the area as well. The well-known Hyatt Hill Country resort is right next door to the Hilton hotel, the Hyatt Lost Pines resort in Bastrop just East of Austin also has a great reputation and La Toretta Lake Resort and Spa on Lake Conroe is also a great alternative.

BE PREPAREDFOR HURRICANE SEASONHurricane Season is here and runs from June 1 to November

30. The City of Houston Office of Emergency Management urges Houstonians to prepare for hurricanes, tropical storms and other emergencies by following a few key steps.

Build a Kit - Have a disaster supply kit with enough supplies to last you and your family for 5 - 7 days; the kit should include food, medications, water and other basic necessities

Make a Plan -Have an emergency plan for your family and check to make sure that your workplace, children’s school and other places you frequent have emergency plans in place; be sure to practice your family’s emergency plan before disasters happen

Be Informed - Remember, during and after a hurricane, electricity and internet connections may be unavailable, so have a way to stay informed, including access to a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Weather Alert radio or a hand-crank or battery-powered radio

Know Your Neighbor -Neighbors can be a great source of help before and after a disaster, so get to know your neighbors, particularly those who are elderly or who may not be able to prepare for disasters by themselves; Houstonians know how to work together to be ready for disasters

For more information visit www.houstonoem.net. If an evacuation is necessary, it is key to have a plan for

how to get out of harm’s way. If you are unable to evacuate by yourself or with the help of family and friends, register for the Transportation Assistance Registry by calling 2-1-1 from any phone in Texas or by visiting www.houstonoem.net.

Lakemont LivingDear Homeowners,

In an effort to keep the homeowners informed about the operations of our community, we wanted to make everyone aware of the actions that are being taken with regard to the distressed/dying trees within the community. As most of you have probably already noticed, there are numerous trees within our common areas that are distressed and dying. Many factors have contributed to the large increase in dying trees; therefore, the Board has spent a lot of time discussing the best way to proceed with handling this issue. After reviewing several options and recommendations on how to proceed, the Board of Directors feel the best route to take is to remove the dead/dying trees as soon as possible and replace them in early winter per the recommendation of our landscaper. We understand that the curb appeal for the community is important to you and we are working diligently to correct the current landscape issues. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Roxanne Rocha, Onsite Manager, at 832-595-6808.
