EXTERIOR AND LANDSCAPEPLANBUILT UP AREAEXTERIOR AND LANDSCAPE

It has been observed since time immemorial that a human being is most receptive at the stages of infancy and childhood. It has also been observed that a humans cognitive skills develop and sharpen on experiences from his/her surroundings of dwelling.

In the context of a kindergarten when children are at their most receptive age group, the schools landscape can play a very significant role in molding a childs outlook towards nature and world on the whole. Thus, apart from just the classrooms being attractive, the building faade, the playgrounds, parks and gardens in a kindergarten are required to be welcoming and interesting for the students.

3EURO KIDS is a chain of pre-schools with branches all over India. The school branch that we visited did not display a whole plethora of impressive landscaping or exterior building front, yet it was warm and welcoming in its own way.

OBSERVATIONS Out of the 35% (app.) area left, about 10% was utilized for gardens and outdoor play.

Since the children in play school werent allowed playtime outside, there were only a few selected outdoor play implements put to use.OBSERVATIONS

The parent entrance to the school which is a wide iron door is decorated with brightly coloured charts and posters.

Adjoining the wooden door entrance is a 14 feet wall that is centrally fitted with glass.

The student entrances are secured with the help of sliding iron grills.

The ground outside is covered with cement tiles. The edge of the small garden is faced with checkered concrete tiles.

Swings, jungle gyms and sand pits are the only playing implements that are put to use. There, also, is a two feet deep water pool for water related play.

View from playing areaThe wall facing the parents parking is made of cement shaped in the form of colour pencils which becomes a very interesting element in attracting the children.Water Tank for water playGarden dotted with Ashoka trees with edges faced with checkered tiles.

Interesting coloured pencils forms being used as a fence.

The kindergarten premises lacked in a numerous ways too.

The building was considerably large and there wasnt enough space for people to move around.

The garden was unattractive and placed at an awkward angle which provided hindrance to the in the path of the play area.
