Nationally Consistent Collection of Data All schools across Australia will again be participating in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) on school students with disability. Our involvement in this process is crucial, as it will provide valuable information about support required for a broad group of students in our schools. The NCCD enables national and state governments to better target support and resources in schools, which in turn, helps schools access support for all students with additional needs.

The NCCD is not limited to students with diagnosed disabilities. It uses a very broad definition of disability, taken from the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, which includes a range of health issues and learning difficulties where schools implement strategies to support students in participating effectively in their learning.

The data collection will have no direct impact on your child and they will not be involved in any testing process.

The NSW Department of Education will provide data to the Australian Government from all NSW public schools in such a way that no individual student or school will be able to be identified. In this way, we will ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all students.

All information is protected by privacy laws, which regulate the collection, storage, and disclosure of personal information. Information about the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy can be found here: https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy. Information about the NSW Government’s privacy policies can be found here: http://www.ipc.nsw.gov.au/.

The data collection will take place in August. No personal or identifying information about any student will be included, however, if you decide you do not wish information about your child to be included in the NCCD, you are asked to contact the school to discuss your concerns. If you are still concerned you should request and complete an opt-out form and return to the principal.

More information about the NCCD is available: http://www.schooldisabilitydatapl.edu.au/.

If you have any questions, please feel welcome to contact Rhonda Heffernan, Learning & Support teacher and Head Teacher teaching & Learning or myself.

Subject Elective Fees Thank you to parents for paying the compulsory elective fees for subjects in Year 9, 10, 11 and 12. These fees pay for materials and resources for each of the elective subjects. In TAS practical subjects, the materials are used in the making of their products and foods created.

In other subjects, the payments are needed to purchase materials that are used such as musical instruments, sporting equipment, robots or technology supplies.

HSC Parent and Student Evening Thanks to the parents and students who attended the meeting where our staff explained the HSC and exams. Time was spent going through the next 6 months for the students and how they can effectively prepare for their best HSC result.

I thank Mrs Bunyan, Mrs S Heffernan and Ms Asmus for their advice. If you missed the evening and would like to learn more, please contact one of the ladies at school.

Student Absence Thank you to parents who continue to inform us when their child is absent. This can be done through a note, email, phone call or return message to our SMS system. Any absence after 5 days without a note will be classed as unjustified absence, until an explanation of the absence. Student absence can affect their eligibility to attend excursions or to represent the school.

If a student knows they will be absent, it is their responsibility to see their teachers for work they will miss or to submit assessment tasks before the due date. Students who will be absent for 5 days or more should see myself or Mr Turner to pick up a “Student Absence” sheet and take this around to their teachers to collect work for the period of their absence.

Thanks all!

White Card Training On Tuesday a group of students completed their White Card training with Bob Hughes through Allen’s Training. The students had a great day where they learnt a lot about working safely in the construction industry. All were successful in obtaining their White Cards which now allows them to enter or work on a construction site. Hopefully some of the students will now use their qualification to undertake work experience.

League Tag Carnival On Friday 24 May Junee High School participated in the South West 7-9 League Tag Carnival at Wagga Wagga. The girls played a total of four games against Wagga Wagga, Temora, Tumbarumba and Tumut High Schools. The girls confidence and ability progressed throughout the duration of the day. Waste Management Done Right! Junee High School is continuing the work of Junee Shire Council with appropriate waste management. We have 24 new bins to go with 12 already labelled at school. We encourage all JHS members to use the correct bin.

One difference is our yellow bins are designed for the “Return and Earn” containers, raising funds for school. Already over 200 items have been redeemed with funds returning to school to assist with the school’s Breakfast Program.

Paper and cardboard do not go in the yellow bins, but are deposited in our “Paper recycling” boxes in classrooms and staffroom, with all paper and cardboard going into the Lions Club bale near TAS.
