Pic t o r i a l News l e t t e rGreeting from South Africa. For over ten years now we have sent newsletters informing abouthe work that we are involved in here in South Africa. Writing is not my strong suit, and several

newsletters, I feel, have tended to be "too wordy." So we thought that we would try somethingdifferent this time and send instead a "mini picture album" of the last 6 months here. They will beunder different headings as you will see and each picture will be described. We hope that you likethis and that it will help you "see" a little more of what the work is like here in South Africa.Enjoy!! May God bless .

Cape Bible SeminaryAs you already know, Cape Bible Seminary Is the teaching resource thatwe use for the trainingof leaders. Since the last report, I have held classes in Graaff-Reinet and George with other mis

sionaries holding classes in other areas. We take the classes to where the leaders are and thismeans that they do not have to attend resident school classes. Here are a few pictures from previou s semina r s .

C o n fe re n c e 1 9 99This year's annual Preaching Conference was held here in George from the 29th of September untilOctober 3. 330 people from alloverSouth Africa came forthe services that started onWednesday night and

ended on Sunday morning. This year's theme was "Prayer -- The Lifeline to God" and all classes, sermonsand teaching times dealt with the various parts ofthat theme. One thing that we had tried to do was to haveclasses for all ages and see that no one was ever left out of something to do while at conference. It nevermade much sense to us to have children come and then sit around and do nothing, so we have tried todevelop classes foreven the youngest of kids. This year, along with the Saturday activityfor the youth, weeven had an activitytime for the younger children. It went verywell and we will tryto do this again next year. The Saturday activity for the older youth was a great success this year because of more intense planningand all enjoyed the gathering.Including ourselves, we had 12 missionaries in attendance for the gathering and most helped with theteaching, whether it be men, ladies or youth. Ail of the missionaries in attendance (except for one) stayedhere at our house and with their families so we had 15 people staying here for various parts of the week ofconference and the next. It was a great time of fellowship as we got to spend time with each other duringmeals and evenings. We do not see each other during the year very often and times like this give us theopportunity to see and visit with each other. Weare thankful for the house that the Lord has provided so thatwe can be of service in this way when people need a place to stay.I am really thankful for the people here at George and the way that they worked together to makeconference a complete success. Iwas told manyyears ago that conference is one of the main things that the

Christians from all over the country came to the yearly conference here in George.

The local sisters spent long hours in the kitchen preparingth e m ea ls fo r those in a t t endance .

African Christians plan for during the year andwhen the local church does such a good job ofpreparing, itmakes the job a lot eas ier . We hadpeople from places such as Cape Town,Upington, Kimberley, and the Eastern Cape inattendance and many made sacrifices to travelthe long distances to be part of the gathering.

Thank you for praying and helping in somany ways for this year's gathering. We thankthe Lord for its success, and we are alreadystarting to plan next year' s gathering in PortElizabeth which will take place the last week ofSeptember. Fran, as usual, taught the kids in one of their classes.

We ar e ready for th e t ri p to India from Atlanta .

Trip to Ind iaIn August I had a rare and truly unforgettable experience. Many

of you know that my sister and brother-in-law {Markand Lisa Andrews) ^adopted a son in 1994 from the Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra or- ^ Iphanage (BSSK) in Pune, India. Michael is now 13 and doing very I"well. Lisa contacted me early this year and said that they were now vready to make another adoption and were going through the same I felMA .agency (Hold International Children Services) and would, therefore, ibe dealing with the same orphanage (BSSK) in Pune, India. Theyhad a complication, though, in that their son did notwant to make the k'trip back to India. Therefore, Mark needed to stay behind and take we are ready for the trip to India from At-care of Michael and they asked me ifI would be willing to accompanyLisa on the trip to India to help in any way that Icould. Iwas very pleased for this opportunity to help. Ourmother, Flo Blackmarr, would also make the trip with us, so it would also be a good time together for theth ree o f us.After leaving George (and Fran and Denzil) and flying to the U.S. in late June, we figured that we wouldmake the Indian trip in July; but the paperwork got bogged down and we left for India on August 13, arrivingin Bombay on the 14th. After spending 2 nights there, we went to the city of Pune, which was a four-hour

train trip over the mountains . On the 17th ofH -I August, we met their precious daughter, SaraJ 'jB 24th. We then flew back to Atlanta on thef It js a trip that Ishall never forget and Iam

These are momentary fade outs that are not even noticeable to the person involved as they usually last a fraction of a second, but do show up on neurologicaltests. She is on daily medication that is helping in all areas. Please pray that the condition will remainunder control and no t get any worse.
