SAVE THE DATE: FAS WOMEN’S CLUB EXCLUSIVE BOOK READING EVENT

Sunday, February 10, 2019 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The Fifth Avenue Synagogue Women’s Club presents Sandra Rapoport, a fascinating and mind-challenging teacher, to speak and read to us from her recently published fourth book, THE

QUEEN & THE SPYMASTER, a page-turner novel about the story of Esther. In the days before a holiday, it is always nice to learn something new that will enrich our under-standing of the holiday experi-ence that can be shared with family and friends. The story of Purim is always exciting; familiar and yet myste-

rious. In her novel, “The Queen & The Spymaster”, Sandra Rapoport answers many of the story’s unasked questions: What was the true nature of the relationship between Esther and Mordechai? What became of Vashti? How did the Jews succeed in their military victory, against all odds? Drawing on her vast knowledge of Bible and Midrash, Sandra addresses these and other questions while spinning an original, compel-ling and evocative tale. Her biography appears below. On Sunday evening, February 10th, from 7 - 9 PM, Sandra will transport us back in time to the ancient city of Shushan, explore with us some of the mysteries of Purim, and will read to us from her new book. So, while it is not yet time to bake hammentaschen or prepare mishloach manot, let’s take a little time to learn and become enchanted together, and enjoy each other’s company! -Dessert will be served -Books will be available for purchase and signing We hope to see you on February 10! Sandra E. Rapoport is an attorney, Bible teacher and award-winning author. Sandra was a Resident Scholar at Harvard University in Law and Bible. Her third book, Biblical Seductions, won a National Jew-ish Book Awards Finalist prize and was a Boston Globe Top-Ten Bestseller. Sandra taught Tanach at the Drisha Institute; for eleven years she taught a popular series on Women in the Bible at the Man-hattan JCC; and she lectures widely. You can read her essays on the parsha in The Jewish Week. Sandra's new book, The Queen & The Spymaster, is a historical novel based on the story of Esther.

FAS CHEVRA KADISHA MITZVAH OPPORTUNITY FAS Chevra Kadisha invites interested women to join the Chevra Kadi-

sha Home Preparation Team to help prepare the Shiva homes of FAS members in mourning. What's involved? Home Team Members will visit

the Shiva home to cover the mirrors and bring the traditional meal of recovery or condolence known as Seudat Havra-ah, (a peeled boiled egg and bagel whose round shape symbolize the circle of life). By performing

this important mitzvah, members get to learn the Jewish mourning cus-toms while showing our community's concern for the welfare of the mourners and extending a comforting hand in this time of greatest need.
