This lesson aims to raise students’ awareness of the challenges faced by young people living in poor conditions in urban slums in Africa. Students will develop their composition skills by writing an informative newspaper or magazine article about Dennis, a thirteen-year-old boy who lives in a Kenyan slum. Linked to English, the lesson will take about an hour.

Tell your students that they will be writing an article about a young boy’s life in an urban slum. The article will be called ‘Mukuru: Life in an urban slum for Dennis’.
