Learning Outcomes

Student Learning Outcomes Related Goal

Student will know the contact information for the advising office and their advisor (if assigned). 1

Student will understand that he/she holds the final responsibility for the successful completion of an educational program.

Student will understand college policies, specifically FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act) and Satisfactory Academic Progress, and their implications.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the importance of keeping advising appointments byo Arriving on time for appointmentso Communicating with the advising office to cancel or rescheduleo Coming prepared for the appointment (ex. bringing transcripts)

Students will understand how to work effectively with faculty byo Communicating with faculty regarding success or challenges affecting performanceo Utilizing faculty office hours and seeking assistance as needed

Advisors will share their contact information and that of the Advising office and encourage regular communication that addresses students’ needs throughout a student’s experience at North Seattle Community College byo Utilizing NSCC communication avenues, such as quarterly PIO blasts and Facebooko Checking in quarterly (or as needed) with cohort students

Advisors will communicate the expectations of students maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress and program completion.

Advisors will abide by FERPA standards at all times. 1, 5 Advisors will be visible and accessible to students in the Advising office and in campus

community building activities.1

Advisors will respond to email and phone messages within 48 hours from the request. 1 Advisors will promote effective student-faculty relationships by

o Communicating with faculty regarding student situations as neededo Partnering with faculty for student success (ex. advising workshops, classroom advising)o Educating student on how to effectively work with faculty (see student learning outcome)
