Leaside Station: What to Expect in 2017

Water main Investigations
• Crews will expose the portions of a water main on the north east corner of the Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East intersection.
• Pedestrians, businesses and residents near the work site can expect to hear trucks, hydro-vaccing, excavators, backhoes, saw-cutting, and other construction equipment.
• WB TTC stop shifted to east (near Sushi Restaurant)

Overnight Line Painting
• Leaside station is required to do a refresh to the existing crosswalk painting at the
Bayview Ave and Eglinton Ave E intersection.
• Due to the volumes of traffic in the area and existing construction set up reducing
available lanes, these works will be completed overnight.
• A truck mounted water-blasting system will perform the work with high pressure water
jets and a vacuum in front of the truck. The operator will make several “see-saw” passes
over the crossing. A hand grinder will also be required which has a gas powered engine,
compressor and is moved around the area by a worker.
• In an effort to mitigate noise where possible CTS has installed a broadband back up
alarm on this vehicle rather than the usual tonal alarm which greatly reduces the
startling sound, spread of the sound and annoyance while maintaining safety.
• Work will occur during one (1) overnight period either on July 14 (Friday night to
Saturday morning) or July 21

Support Works – Utilities Mitigation
What to expect: Sewer Lining
• Sewer lining is a process intended to increase the durability of the sewers.
• A section of the sewer system is cleaned and vacuumed and a CCTV inspection is completed. Then a liner is inserted into the sewer section from within the maintenance holes
• The process is designed to be generally non-disruptive and eliminates the need for excavation of the entire sewer section.
• Maintenance holes that will be accessed are located on Eglinton Avenue East between Sutherland Drive and Brentcliffe Road.
• Lane closures will be required for this work. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
• Above ground pipes will be in place between maintenance holes to bypass pump around the sewer lines during the liner installation.
• Due to the nature of the work, an unpleasant chemical odour may be noticeable in the vicinity of the maintenance holes and, in some circumstances, in the home. It is not harmful, however it can be limited by covering floor drains while the sewers are being lined.
A public notice with additional details will be distributed prior to work beginning.
