already have current materials on hand that meet the need.

Steps 4d & 4e: Consider each item for withdrawal (a 5-part process):If you don’t, look for newer materials and add
to a Withdrawal Replacement list in Titlewave.If you can’t find a better replacement, keep it,
but place a note in your software’s Notes area so that the next time you pull the item for withdrawal consideration, you know what you’ve already discovered.

Step 5: Make catalog correctionsAs you’re looking for books on the lists and searching the catalog for various stats, you will find catalog errors such as:Items attached to incorrect records; if you’re
keeping it, fix it!Items that have had renewed copyrights that
aren’t reflected in the record. If the renewed copyright meets your parameters for currency, fix it!

Steps 5c & 5d: Make catalog correctionsItems that have incorrect or incomplete call
numbers; fix them!Items that you’d rather move to
another section (e.g., all career books in 331.7, all Science Fair books in 508.7, etc.); this is a great way to identify and pull these items and place them on a cart to work with as you find time.

FINALLY . . . my personal belief: Too many librarians don’t weed or don’t weed ENOUGH because they see it as a chore. If you take a systematic approach to it using tools that are readily at your disposal, you CAN have fun and discover that your library can look like this:
