Leighton Contractors was established in 1949 and has grown to become one of Australia’s largest and most diverse contracting and project development companies with operations spanning construction, resources, telecommunications, industrial engineering, services and investment.

With the combined skills and resources of Leighton Mining and HWE Mining, Leighton Contractors is Australia’s largest contract miner and services provider.
Drawing on more than 30 years experience, Leighton Mining is based in Brisbane and operates on Australia’s east coast and in New Zealand to deliver world-class mining services. Their expertise covers underground and surface mining, providing a wide range of services from prestrip activities to complete mine management.
HWE Mining, acquired in 2006, is the largest contract miner in the iron ore sector. Headquartered in Perth and operating largely in Western Australia, HWE Mining is also an industry leader in materials handling and minerals processing.
Together, Leighton Mining and HWE Mining operate more than 30 mines across some of the most remote and challenging locations in Australia and New Zealand.
They employ over 4,000 dedicated people who are focused on safety, maximising productivity and efficiency, and providing a reliable service for our clients.
